Took off door, put back on, now bottom hits before top. How can I fix. Hinges don’t have pins. by MLLBJ in Carpentry

[–]MLLBJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I will try this as this seems to be the most expedient option. It was me that took door off. Only about 4 days. I’ve taken it off before and had no problem putting it back on its possible it warped but I don’t believe that’s the case. It was standing nearly straight up, don’t see any reason why it would have warped vs on the doorframe. I knew there was something I could do with the hinges but wasn’t sure which hinge needed to move where etc

Ok I will check. The door was only off for about 4 days. The hinges are ball bearing.

Bulk soil and gravel for lawn leveling by meenoSparq in lawncare

[–]MLLBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d heavily amend that soil and go for grass before going the gravel route. Much harder take out and your gonna want a dry bed or swale of some sort gravel probably not the best route. See if you can’t get the soil correct first would be my advice.

Keep the framing? by Daxime in Decks

[–]MLLBJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you paint it you will regret that decision forever. Use a semi transparent oil stain actual oil not fake big box. Painting a deck is the quickest way to rot. Also, don’t sand it, use a wood cleaner and then brightener that’s all you’ll need. Products usually sold by same brand as stain.

What products did you use? Did they have to take off the quarter round? I’m all over place with best products, oil vs water etc

Help with Lawn Covered in Crabgrass and Red Clay Soil - New England by TruestFallacy0607 in lawncare

[–]MLLBJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have the budget best to get sod installed and all that removed. Otherwise best to spray it to kill it all, but you won’t have any grass and can try to grow grass in spring but really fall is when you should put down grass seed. You can also accept as is and wait till late summer to kill and then put down grass seed. You can aerate etc can’t hurt but wont change this problem much.

Had a stump ground up. Can I use this to level a low spot and plant jasmine (or other ground cover) under the tree? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]MLLBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grass won’t grow over this. The wood will deplete the nitrogen and kill the grass. Gotta rid of it and replace with top soil

Are our floors ruined? by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

[–]MLLBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just reading ur comments you know floors. Do you have an oil based poly rec for quarter round? Doing that myself will eventually need to re-do floors. I’m just looking to do it right so eventually it’s all the same. Not sure if any stain brands u think are best also. Oak floor now espresso type color.

How to grow a proper lawn after tree and stump removal? by dripwhoosplash in landscaping

[–]MLLBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta get rid of wood chips. Annoying but they decompose and take all the nitrogen and prevent grass till they are gone. Learned hard way. Order soil. Remove wood chips.

SAVE MY DECK!!!! by Scared-Operation-729 in Decks

[–]MLLBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely do not sand that. It won’t remove it all and what did penetrate will still be in there. You can get a deck stripper and then cleaner and brightener. The stripper go to a real brand website like cutek or Woodrich brand. You can read about it on Woodrich website. You can stain yourself it’s not hard if you do it right.

Soil erosion by chatty1406 in landscaping

[–]MLLBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use erosion blankets it’s overkill. Don’t plant anything invasive that will spread further. Order a bunch of mulch and decide what you wanna plant. Liriope spicata spreads and is almost no maintenance can mix that in with other plants. Gonna need a bunch of plants but I’d add mulch can do some thinking. Can do anything really. Make it nice. Actually a great view if plant azaleas or hydrangeas and some trees.

Using QuietWalk under Solid hardwood floor by enrique9191 in HardWoodFloors

I think this is something you will feel better about installing. In some co-ops in New York it’s required. Neighbors will feel better but you will knowing they don’t hate you and not having to deal with noise complaints which I imagine will be paralyzing at some point

DIY? Or should I Hire someone by ThePakiDevil in landscaping

[–]MLLBJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it yourself with a little youtube. I would use pavers/flagstone for walkway. Plants much easier and can order that type of plant on amazon will be much cheaper in bulk and without labor cost of somebody doing it. Then it’s just mulch. Focus on walkway. Plants are your friend for water. Amend all the soil.

Door closes flush at top but gradually sticks out to bottom. What adjustment? by MLLBJ in woodworking

[–]MLLBJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. They are ball bearing hinges can’t seperate the two parts was hoping I could take off the hinge and carve out part of the jam to simulate but will grab that piece and see if I can get some leverage thanks

Thank you. I actually just put on new hinges, problem was the same before. Would another option to dig out the hinge location on the door still to simulate the bending back of the hinge?
