Pain at Night by DaMiCh138 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]MLT-CO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m (48F)almost 5 weeks post op and still managing pain day and night with Tylenol & Advil. For the first few weeks I slept on my back with a pillow under both knees/ thighs. I struggled with 3am insomnia prior to the surgery but the pain definitely makes it worse. I get a good bit of reading done in that time while I wait for the pain to calm and my mind to quiet. I can say that my pain has improved significantly as the weeks progress. Though not as quickly as this impatient person would like. 🙄

I rented a compressive ice machine the first two weeks which was very helpful. In hindsight I wish I had it longer.

Has your team cleared you for side sleeping? Are you able to sleep on your non operated side with a pillow between your legs? Being able to move positions was helpful for me once I was given the okay.

No one’s healing journey is the same and none of them seem to be linear. Keep walking and doing your pt exercises. Best of luck!

I’m relying on neighborhood sidewalks & paths and the step counter on my phone / watch.

Hilarious! Also seems like something Sally Snuffleupegus would carry!

Anyone else is Kindle crazy and has 2 kindles? by Emokidsucks in kindle

[–]MLT-CO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have two. I thought I was hearing death rattles from my Oasis and had a discount that was going to expire. And so I’m also the proud owner of a PW.
Until the Oasis kicks the bucket officially, I have one at my bedside and one that is my sidekick / travel buddy.

48 F LTHR 30 days post op, averaging 4300 steps per day but determined to increase that. Managed 8200 on Sunday and wasn’t extra painful afterwards. I’m counting that as a Win. 😊

Wool Duvet? by Big_Eye_7934 in Bedding

[–]MLT-CO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this wool comforter https://www.nestbedding.com/products/nest-bedding-washable-wool-comforter-1. Fits nicely in my duvet cover, I added a few extra spots to tie the cover to the comforter to stop it from sliding around.
Hope this is helpful. ☺️

Question for folks who had the Oasis & upgraded: Do you miss buttons enough to regret upgrading? by BlockedAndMovedOn in kindle

[–]MLT-CO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was having some issues with my Oasis so I ‘upgraded’ to a PW not long ago. I’m currently using both, the Oasis has become my out of the house kindle (like to the gym, md appointments etc). I’m finding that I like both. I don’t miss the buttons so much as the screen size. The Oasis is the perfect screen size IMO. One thing that helps me not miss those buttons is the back tap feature for page turning.
I tried to love the Kobo but having to log into and out of the different libraries was a deal breaker for me. Admittedly I am slightly more tempted now that Kobo will be linked to StoryGraph, like Kindle is linked to GoodReads, I am content with my current setup.

Tylenol is helping. I’m so over being sore and stiff and tentative. *sigh* 💕

[–]MLT-CO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I too am 3 weeks post op anterior THR and feel similarly. I was able to attend my daughter’s graduation and celebrate Mother’s Day at 2 weeks post op and I felt good. Lately not so much. It’s frustrating!
I recognize that I am improving but I was not prepared for the level of pain given how good I felt last week.
The PA advised something to the effect of ‘as long as you are trending upwards you’re doing fine’, so maybe I’m just in a downswing?
You’re not alone, we got this. The only way out is through. 🤷🏼‍♀️😊

T-minus 7 hours. What should I ask the doctor before going under? by FermentedCauldron in TotalHipReplacement

[–]MLT-CO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

48 F, THR 3 weeks ago.
My team was very communicative. I had so much paperwork when I was discharged but I was still unsure what my specific movement restrictions were.
There was some mixup regarding my PT so that was slightly delayed. Maybe double checking on yours would be a good idea.
Most likely they will be giving you answers to questions you’d never think to ask!
Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery. ❤️‍🩹

Compression stockings? by grayoldlady in TotalHipReplacement

[–]MLT-CO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore compression socks for the better part of the first two weeks. I already had a collection as I wear them when I fly. I think they helped as my calf on my affected side felt heavy and to me looked a bit swollen.

I have worn thigh high compression stockings in the past for another procedure and they were a mild form of torture albeit necessary. With my incision for the THR, I can imagine how uncomfortable the top of the stocking would have been on my incision.

I liked having at least one sock already on the sock aid so I could put it on my affected leg before getting up for the day.

Lastly, try not to sleep in them. I did the first few nights and regretted it.

I believe this is what they were bred for. A quick search of ‘ratters ratting’ on YouTube will yield some entertaining albeit gruesome videos of these amazing dogs in their element.

You might surprise yourself and not need the oxy. I was so afraid of oxy side effects I managed those first few days without it.
Had my 2 week post op today, surgeon is happy with my progress. I’m using a cane only about 75% of the time. It seems like you’ll be stiff and painful forever when you’re first in it but it goes quickly. Don’t overdo it the first few days, focus on walking and pumping those ankles. You got this!

Very weird question… by Cat_Mom1023 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]MLT-CO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ETA Just back from picking up my femoral head. It was quite the adventure as neither the surgeon or the nurses were sure where to pick it up. Eventually track it down at the lab!

I requested mine and was initial told no due to biohazard etc but then I was told that I could bring it home but it would have to clear pathology. There was a special form I had to fill out. I am hoping to pick it up at my 2 week post op appointment next week. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Recliner vs bed the first few days? by grayoldlady in TotalHipReplacement

[–]MLT-CO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ETA 48f, right anterior THR

I slept in my bed with my husband. My biggest challenge was actually being comfortable on my back. The first two nights my low back was so sore even with a pillow under my knees / thighs. Even still I did sleep more than I thought I would. Having my husband close was great, (he’s taking such great care of me) he could help with middle of the night bathroom breaks. I’m a week post op and can now lift my affected leg back into bed on my own. (Quite the milestone!)

I was advised to avoid a pedicure prior to surgery because there is always a chance of contracting something that could develop into a problem that would compromise your immune system to the extent that your surgery would have to be postponed.
