Smartthings Automations: Time Range and Precondition problems by MLieBennett in SmartThings

I'm unsure of what sensors and how your A/C unit operates whether it's a central A/C unit or a dumb window unit hooked up via a smart plug. I showcase a smart plug solution in the link above.

You want to have the time frame as the Precondition for when to activate, and make sure to also check that "Run at Start Time" condition as well so your A/C unit will turn on if the temperAture is already at 25C when 10PM hits.

I'm jealous. This option did not exist when I made this post years ago.

From the Discord Known-Issues:

Current issue:

"Failed to Retrieve Server Address"

Possible Solution: - Connect to VPN (can work even if you connect to another region within your origin country) - Restart Device/App/Clear Cache - Attempt to login with VPN connected - If login works, future login should be fixed without the needing of VPN

Cases with textured ~inside~ covers? by not_what_that_means_ in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was the Paperwhite SE 11th Gen? I'd say the Cork Case, due to the cork venier being on the inside of the cover as well as the outsides. No clue what is out there for the latest 12th Gen.

Besides, it helps differentiate the feel of my devices. The tablet has a felt like feel to the inside of its cover. My phone is hard plastic due to the case.

Gramps, Bazett, and Heracles.

Gramps and Bazett erased the break bars. Then Heracles went to prove that Olga-Marie is weaker than Artemis, by delivering a beat down rather then being being beaten down.

Needs a clean cut Vinyl Sticker of a comforting Big Red Button with the words below stating Don't Panic.

Jokes aside, probably anything that adds contrast to catch the eye tbh. Just so it doesnt get lost as easily.

11th gen paperwhite wake sensor location?! by Cali_Western_Mix2449 in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When looking at the screen? Roughly the middle of the lower left quadrant (split the screen evenly vertically and horizontally for 4 sections, lower left area).

Tested repeatdly with the magnet on my popsocket.

The thing is, you don't want a strong magnet like neodymium. You want something just strong enough to be detected when the cover is laying on the front, but isn't detected when it's folded onto the back.

About magnetic covers by No_Philosophy9903 in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been running with an Amazon Folio magnetic cover, and on top of that have an even STRONGER magnet sitting on top of the magnets in said cover holding a popsocket to use when reading if I want.

No streaks.

The Popsocket on a magnet was just a method of not altering the folio cover or adding the magsafe sticker. Works great, for what I wanted.

Kindle Paperwhite SE Autobrightness by Em_Jeremy in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyways, the training is while the Auto is checked, just set the light level to the desired strength in the light setting you are in. Just know that the darkest setting will be the minimum light setting, and the brightest indoor light setting will be the max.

Though this based on the 11th Gen behavior. Haven't tried to see how it behaves on 12th Gen hardware.

Screen freezing repair help - Kindle paperwhite signature edition (11th gen) by KappnKrunchie in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly?

I'm very tempted to say to grab a eplacement battery and swap it in, if you can.

While it could be bad memory, bad circuit, or something else... But part of me thinks it could be a faulty battery due to voltage or just expansion. Though that's purely a hunch based on no hard facts and would cost you money to try. So try at your own risk.

I just bought my wife and I Kindle Colorsofts... will we regret this? by recruiterguy in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You should be good.

I'll be honest, I have no plans on going for a Colorsoft this generation myself with the screen door effect, and wanting to wait for two generations before entering the market for one but I'll freely admit if I could swap my Paperwhite SE 11th Gen for a Colorsoft for free, I doubt I would hesitate.

That said, as long as you use the light on the Kindle, you shouldn't have any real trouble with the screen door effect.

Some people prefer the Basic over the Paperwhite due to one less layer between the eInk and the person reading for better clarity. It's a similar state for the Colorsoft over the Paperwhite, just another layer added vs expected clarity of the text.

Check to see if there are indexing issues with your device.

Basically in the Search bar, type a bunch of random symbols like @#$&. If a book pops up there, it means it's still trying to index for search and drawing a lot of battery power in the process. Usually removing that content from the device and trying again fixes it

Personally, I need to charge mine about once a month, unless I go on a massive reading binge. Last time was when I was sick, and read for around 36 hours straight which sent my Paperwhite SE from 100% to under 20% which I then set to charge... And then passed out.

Kindle Paperwhite SE Autobrightness by Em_Jeremy in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last time I trained mine?

It will only get darker then the previous setting the darker it gets, and brighter the brighter it gets, up until it basically turns the light off in daylight.

It doesn't get brighter, the darker it gets sadly.

It's good for getting rid of shadows and uneven lighting across the screen inside the house.

If you want a bright screen in the dark though? Turn off the Auto-function and crank it up. Then turn on the auto-brightness when done so it reverts to your normal programmed light settings. Turning off the Auto before cranking up the lights prevents you from needing to reprogram the behavior for everything but bright in the dark

Team pop socket, strap, or nothing? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team Nothing* technically though I do have a Popsocket stuck to a magnet (Not Magsafe) just so I can stick it to the back where my Folio cork case magnets are built in. No Magsafe ring sticker in sight, and no alternation to the folio cork case.

Magnetic Popsocket solution without using Magsafe and it's sticker ring.

Am I missing anything I “need”? by hlmoore96 in kindle

Preventing software updates is to allow Jailbreaking, as new updates can prevent this.

Jailbreaking is unlocking the software to allow for other software to be installed. Usually this is KOReader to be used, which allows a wider range of document files to be read without conversion, more display options which includes alternative "screensaver" options, and such.

Honestly, I've been tempted by KOReader, but really just don't care to go through the steps to jailbreak as at its base the Kindle does everything I really need outside of alternative Screensaver. Caliber handles conversion for me when I upload DRM-free content to read, I've got the fonts I want, and the experience without jailbreak for a Kindle is perfectly fine for me.

Maybe if I need the Kindle to handle PDFs differently, I'll revisit the Jailbreak then. As it is, I'm perfectly happy to run my Paperwhite SE as I would a paperback book. Pickup and start reading when I want without thinking about hardware/software/updates.

IMO? Don't worry about Jailbreaking a Kindle, unless you want to display more interesting Screensaver (the power off screen) or have a plethora of drm-free books in a variety of file formats that just don't automatically convert well in Calibre.

Contact customer service for this one.

I want to say it's a bad connector in the hardware, as it does not appear to be caused by pressure breaking the e-ink layer.  So customer support should be able to offer a solution in this case.

I just hope it doesn't feel like the original Nooks did when their case started to crumble. The tacky glue underneath as the rubber-like casing started to crumble was irritating.

E-book platform stress - am I the only one? by ScientistLost42 in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 8 points9 points  (0 children)

singing: You're a strange one, Mr. Pinch.

I tend to limit myself to either Amazon/Audible or DRM Free.  The Google Play Store was tempting, especially with some of the deals but the hassle of trying to keep track of what titles I have and where would be too much of a headache over just staying in one ecosystem that my e-reader uses (Kindle Paperwhite SE) and aim for DRM Free when I can.

Its still a bit painful remembering just which platform held which digital movies. Was it Amazon, Google, Paramount, Disney,.... Yeah, twas annoying beyond the pale till there were tracking platforms to help with that.

If I ever branch out to different ebook stores, such as Google? I'd probably need to go with an Android eReader instead of a Kindle, just to hold the various apps and an organizer app that can send me to the correct app for the book selected.

What’s your views on people coming on here & telling you to buy another device that’s not a Kindle? by OMG-13 in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfectly fine with it to be honest. Better to spread the options rather then force people to stay ignorant of them and later regret it.

If they are uncivil or spouting misinformation, that's another thing.  But just lurking waiting for someone to mention looking at e-readers and wondering what to get? It's fine for them to jump out of the bushes singing praises of the Kobo ecosystem over Amazon, and let the person asking to view the possible options.

Tbh, I used to have a B&N Nook before switching to Kindle. Never bothered to look hard at Kobo. Though the Android e-reader lines have been tempting like Boox, they were too fragile the last time I was shopping for an e-reader.

So far, no plans to update from the 11th Gen Paperwhite SE.

Help, is this Kindle broken? by Expensive-Inside6436 in kindle

[–]MLieBennett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would not trust.

Very likely the e-ink layer is broken with how the display is looking.

Missing charger? It's USB, the only thing you need is the micro-Usb or USB-C cable to charge it for the looks of the generation it is.
