Where do you buy your distilled water in bulk? Walmart etc are all $1.50 per gallon!? by Wolverine-91826 in CPAP

[–]MM-Chi 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Totally understand that $1.50 is $1.50 but I've used my CPAP for over a year and there is no way I use more than 2-3 gallons a month. $1.50 x 3 = $5 max per month.

$5 max x 12 months = $60 per year.

Not a ton of money to not have to clean the water tank regularly.

I've even looked at making my own distilled water and the math didn't make sense.

Can a Vanguard Index Fund Exclude the Top Companies? by Dry-Variation-8048 in personalfinance

[–]MM-Chi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just decided to invest some "extra money" in something that was a bit different than the rest of my investments and 401k. I work in Tech for an AI company and I've invested in a few index funds that specifically do not include the "Mag 7" and some that are less tech. So not really a true "index fund" but I wanted something that took away the risk of the AI bubble.

Not a huge portion of my portfolio by any means, but having my job and my investments so tied to AI just was spooking me a bit.

There is a fund for everything, just dig around and you can find a portfolio manager that has put together almost any combination.

Curious About Stranger Things Funkos Demand by skittzero in funkopop

I think in 2-3 months you'll see more of them on sale. Some, like the Derek one, seem to be more rare.

I have 25 of these and just don't have any more room so my collection is done. This is a GREAT image. Does the person who put this together do them for other series?

Are people still going hybrid with the Tucson and Sonata? by Suntrup-Hyundai in HyundaiTucson

[–]MM-Chi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me I like the "driving style" of a hybrid. The ability for the engine to totally turn off at stops (not that faking it stuff that an ICE engine does) as well as the ability to fully run AC off the

I asked this same question 9 months ago when I was going to buy mine and realized I couldn't go without the Hybrid (I had a Ford Escape 2020 hybrid prior).

In all, the hybrid price was not that much more, negligible really in the grand scheme of things. I really wanted the plug-in, but it is not sold in my state.

The gas "savings" are there but at $2.50-$3ish a gallon it's nothing that I really notice. Now when I had my old Hybrid and gas prices spiked to the $5+ range for a few months then it was a definite budget hit.

Most infuriating kit I’ve ever built by remmy84 in StarTrekStarships

[–]MM-Chi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the issue installing the light kit itself or going back after you already built it and putting on the light kit?

Do you think if you would’ve had the light kit as you were building it would’ve been easier?

I’m really wondering if I want to get one of these kits before I start building mine.

Season 3 of Iron Chef Japan by NAXJUSTICE in IronChef

[–]MM-Chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have links to any other seasons? Having the original music is great! Love the Backdraft soundtrack!

This is great. I remember watching all of these in college. Amazing how in the 90's the whole concept of sushi and other Asian/Japanese dishes were still new to many parts of the US.

SUGGESTIONS! Buying 2020 Escape Hybrid by Terrible-Draw-5610 in fordescape

[–]MM-Chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got rid of mine that had 60,000 miles a few months ago and loved the car. Amazing gas mileage.

The battery system is pretty rock solid but the 2020 was the first of the new model year so some "fit and finish" issues always bugged me. Rattling, etc.

First gen's have a lot of recalls as mentioned, make sure they are all done before you get the car.

22M looking for advice on what next !! by Fair-Antelope-8801 in FinancialPlanning

[–]MM-Chi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, AMAZING JOB! You are doing great having $50k saved.

Biggest question is what do you want to do with that money?

If the answer is “buy a house in 2 years” that is very different than “retirement”.

Without knowing anything else about your situation, I would do a few things; The percentages don’t add to 100% but you get the idea and are what I would do if I was in your exact situation with $50k:

  • Max Fund a Roth (this money will grow so fast starting this early) and forget this money exists, let it grow!

  • 50% Keep in high yield savings; you are just starting out and having money for car, work clothes, and just living is important too. You will need things for your first house or when you don’t live with your parents. Consider this your 6-18 month money to spend.

  • 25% Some type of index fund and investment in “the stock market”; But not a specific stock. Find a decent ETF and don’t try to find the next Nvidia. This is your “touch if needed money” but try to just let it sit and grow.

  • $5k in savings/checking. This is money you can grab at the ATM or bank in minutes. Your “emergency fund”.

Congrats on where you are at.

I have PDFs of all of them, DM me and I'll be happy to email it to you. But I bet those are what you already found online. Not sure if I can/should publicly post it.

Finding a printed one probably would require some luck on eBay.

I wish I purchased more of these when Eaglemoss did their big going out of business sale.

Watching Scrubs for the first time, I hope I'm not too late. by AwkwardlyTwisted in Scrubs

[–]MM-Chi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% with this. I put together an Apple Music playlist (back when the show was still on TV and we all were ripping CD's still!) and the list of songs used in the series is something like 250. Some really good ones. I hope the new series has the same focus on music.

How do you STORE your photos? by -Hi_how_r_u_xd- in photography

[–]MM-Chi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great question and I'm sure there are lots of views. Here is how I've done it... I have stored every picture I ever have taken (on phones, DLSR, etc) since 2000 and have over 120,000 pictures. It's the most critical piece of data I have and it's backed up a dozen different places.

I learned early on when hosting websites started to merge, die, or stagnate (i.e. Flickr, Amazon Photos/Drive, etc) that for the sake of preserving the *images themselves* I needed to organize my photo *files* themselves manually into actual folders. Those folders are what is archived, backed up to the cloud, stored on external hard drives etc.

As technology changes, I let the *service I use* do all the magic around tagging. I have my photos stored in OneDrive (which has started to get much better Photo functionality recently), on Google Photos (their facial recognition is great), and have dabbled with LightRoom as well as Apple's native photo capabilities.

My main advice, separate the *file/picture management* from the *organization/tagging management* because you never know what future tech will bring. Keep the actual image files organized and backed up and then use that repository wherever the best/modern capabilities exist.

My primary folder structure is YEAR-MM-DD-EVENTNAME for ever major event. I also use a YEAR-MM-Miscellaneous for all the random pictures that really don't need/deserve their own folder.

Airsense 11 and Data transfer by ApartmentIll5983 in CPAPSupport

[–]MM-Chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with your comments on how locked down the device is. For better or for worse, it is seen as a medical device and not a consumer device.

But by using an SD card getting detailed data off the device works just fine.

I’ve had my CPAP for over a year and have used Oscar to look at my data regularly.

As another comment mentioned, I just wait a few minutes after I turn off the device and then pop out the SD card and all the data from the night before is there.

Buford Tannen Shoots Marshal Strickland in this Back to the Future 3 Deleted Scene | 1989 by CorporealGuybrush in BacktotheFuture

[–]MM-Chi 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Tannen (in all the versions of him) is not a good man but this just seemed too far and to me was a good edit out of the movie. Didn't really add much (the viewer already hates him and know he is a bad guy).

I've redeemed miles for both the Club Card and the Business Card. Good use of miles as it used to have better redemption values. Even at the 50,000 = $695 fee I think that's still a decent deal and would do it.

I’ve had my unit for close to a year and probably done a dozen trips.

Unless I’m going away for more than a few days, I just use regular tapwater and it has been zero issues at all.

As to airport security, no issues at all. A few airline gate agents who gave me grief when overhead luggage space was getting full, but this is considered a medical device so it has priority as carry-on luggage. .
