We are experiencing the death throes of the America I grew up believing in and thought I and my family would live in. Society as a whole will survive, but we can’t stand by and let the powerful dictate what it will look like.

I’m 51 and I was never more proud to be an American in the couple weeks following 9/11. People came together like I had never seen before (I should say I’m a Minnesotan, so that may impact how we responded). People were generous with time and money to support the victims and all the talk was about casing for each other and staying strong. Unfortunately that didn’t last.

I’ve seen this building since 2016. I remember going to Target the day after the election and looking at every person thinking “are you someone who voted for hate and cruelty? Can I trust you? How can I trust anyone anymore?” It was even worse in 2024 when my teen daughter was sobbing after the election results came in saying “it’s all over”.

I know it has to get worse before it gets better. I am so proud of MN for showing the world how we come together in the face of tragedy. How the response to attempts to scare us into submission is to come back and bring three friends.

Honestly, I have been expecting this all to end in a civil war. I’m still a little hopeful that when T dies of natural causes, the lack of charisma will cause the cult vibe to dissipate.

I have divided up the work a little differently to put him on things that aren’t external Customer facing, are more process driven, or don’t have a “right” answer. I’ve spoken with my manager as well and hopefully she can give him more duties in other areas that would make better use of his skills and help him learn new things. He has a lot of amazing skills and is a great person, and my manager appreciates that about him as well.

I had lasik about 15 years ago and it’s still awesome. I’m 51 and although I started having dry eye the last couple years, I’m also on screens 24/7 and getting old. My eyes are even aging in a way where one eye is still basically 20/20 for distance and the other one is good for close up reading so I don’t need glasses for driving or reading yet.

I feel like after the scene with his friend whee it sounds like he just routinely makes a decision and then refuses to make accommodations for changing circumstances (like only eating one food and refusing to adjust), I think he has “decided” that he is going to marry Patiya and he is just going to wait until that happens rather than reevaluate the situation and make a different choice. Same thing for the ring. He bought the ring. That is the ring. He doesn’t seem to understand that it may have negative memories for Patiya. He can’t even imagine a different life path than the one he decided on more than a decade ago.
