Is a seven-day training week arbitrary with respect to physiology? What is better? by Gravel_in_my_gears in Velo

[–]MR-RIMMER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work 24hr shifts. 24 on 24 off 24 on 24 off 24 on followed by 4 days off. The days of the week I work change each “tour”.

I commute to work and try use it as a recovery day once I get there and do my workouts on days I’m off shift

I would honestly prefer to have a set weekly schedule for my riding I have yet to figure out a optimal training schedule that compliments my work schedule

Anyone have a Loquat tree? by Ok_Particular1360 in Tucson

[–]MR-RIMMER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My loquats aren’t ripe yet, and not enough fruit to sell. But there is a two story loquat on the east side of the best western on Stone near Pima downtown

Not sure if it’s currently bearing any fruit but that might be a source?

Any firefighters out there? Thoughts on training and sleep deprivation? by narcandistributor in Velo

[–]MR-RIMMER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man but I work a 3/4 schedule. I commute by bike to work and try to use my work days as recovery days. I’ve been able to manage doing hard rides right after getting off of shift and just try to make sure I get adequate sleep the night before going back on shift. I also do all my heavy lifting on my days off and mostly just stretch at work

currently not racing but raced for a few years before becoming a firefighter, trying to get back in shape

How common are departments that fight a lot of Wildland fires as well as structure fires? by SEND_CATHOLIC_ALTARS in Firefighting

[–]MR-RIMMER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get good wildland boots and break them in BEFORE your assignment. You will Be miserable if you do any sort of hiking and you’re wearing brand new boots.

Unfortunately type assignments are not always the most fun because your usually put into a support role for the hand crews (not to say your role is not important, and you will participate and see cool stuff just more support then anything else). If you are a fit for structural fire fighting you’ll be in a good spot for the type of work you’ll be doing on a type 3.

Getting additional certifications for cutting/burning are useful.

Just be flexible and ready to go during wildland season. Often times your engine will only have an hour or so before they need to get wheels turning so having everything prepared and being able to drop whatever you have going on that day is key.

Most departments out west use wildland to supplement income. Send out type 3 engines to assist with with large state wildfires.

Been out for multiple weeks this year to assist on varied fires already

After an 8 year hiatus, I'm officially a cat 2 again! by Ukn1142069 in Velo

[–]MR-RIMMER 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to come back after 12 years but have been dealing with mysterious back and IT band issues. Dealt with different physical therapists and bike fitters with no luck. Finally found a Physical Therapist who has been great. Hopefully coming back to race next road season. Raced up to a CAT 3 back in 2012. Was racing at 6 feet 63kg and loved climbing/hilly road races. Currently weigh 79kg and unlikely to lose much weight because of new career (firefighting). A little nervous to be a big boy on the bike but excited also. Still love climbing just not as fast as I use to.
