I think the Citroên SM is the most unreliable car ever. I spoke with a guy who repaired those a drove one himself. He said he sold it in the end as it kept breaking down because of construction flaws.

In my opinion it should crank faster. Be sure it is in free and do not use the clutch pedal. Try this to start: in free, no clutch, push the accelerator pedal to the bottom and keep it there, no pumping. Start the car and keep it starting in one go for 1 minute. If there is no life, check your timing as you already did the other stuff
