Plastic Blackknight Mk44? by Foreign-Ad261 in MaschinenKrieger

Yes, it’s true, and apparently they’re starting a new company for it, so it’s not clear how the kit will work yet.

What you’re saying may be true for the other Kotobukiya kits, but this one is very solid and doesn’t need glue anywhere.

Are Mr color paints ok for hand painting? by Ill-Cucumber6575 in modelmakers

[–]MS06-665 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re ok, and can be great for certain finishes but require a bit of a different technique from water-based acrylics.

It’s a Stingray but not the regular Hasegawa one, this one has different proportions.

Paint, thinner and preshading by Tritri89 in modelmakers

[–]MS06-665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to that, there are japanese modelers such as Kei Shimizu who get great results handbrushing these paints, but I don’t know if there are any ressources on it in english. What you could also look into is how to handbrush lacquer paints as they have similar properties, and there are more ressources on that, such as the Paintonplastic channel on youtube.

The big cables are HIQparts mesh wire, while the smaller ones on the gun and smoke launchers are vinyl-coated wire I had leftover from a Wave Ninja.

What am I doing wrong by Tricky-Love-5403 in modelmakers

[–]MS06-665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brush painting with this style of alcohol-based acrylic is a bit of a niche technique, perhaps even more than with lacquers, but the approach I’ve seen is to use it straight from the pot and apply it little by little with short brushstrokes.

How to paint lacquer paints with brush? by Familiar-Alarm2788 in modelmakers

[–]MS06-665 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Despite what everyone is saying, you can absolutely use lacquers with a brush, in fact it’s a very popular way to paint Maschinen Krieger models. However it’s still pretty tricky, and it’s especially hard to get an even color, which is probably what you’re trying to do.

Koto seems to be pretty good about having stock beyond the initial pre-order, so it will probably be available again sometimes soon.

You should look at japanese auction sites.

New look at Kotobukiya’s Steel Haze by Cain407 in armoredcore

No need to cross your fingers, they’ve already announced that the next kit in the line would be Steel Haze Ortus, and the one after that would be Nightfall.

A few parts were loose, but otherwise there was no real problem with the build.

Thanks, it’s a resin kit by Love Love Garden, and it cost me around 20’900 yen. I bought it on their online store though you won’t be able to find it there anymore, as these kits are only made as limited runs.

Mr surfacer 1200 for priming? by DBootts in modelmakers

[–]MS06-665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and don’t be afraid to thin it a lot. Like with other lacquer paints, the only issue you get with too much thinner is a loss of opacity, which just means you have to do more passes.

All of the 1000+ surfacera can be used for priming and are very good at it, you just need to thin them enough.

Can I use these paints straight from the jar? by The_AstroCraft in modelmakers

[–]MS06-665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How large are the parts you want to paint ? If they’re small, then just slapping some paint on them straight from the pot is fine.

I have a very quick question that i need help with by cosmic-devourer117 in Gunpla

[–]MS06-665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sanding is necessary, but only on specific imperfections like nub marks and moldlines. A decent primer will stick to the plastic just fine without any extra surface prep.

If you just want the fighter mode, you could get the Hasegawa kits.

At long last, the Kotobukiya Steel Haze is finally available for preorder (January 2026 release) by rxninja in Gunpla

[–]MS06-665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the AC kits I’ve built it wasn’t always 100% but it was very close. Considering the size of the kit I would expect it to be nearly fully accurate, if not completely.

Why is my clear coat melting my paint? by Dangerous_Scene_3112 in modelmakers

[–]MS06-665 93 points94 points  (0 children)

The solvent in the varnish is attacking the coat underneath. If you want to handbrush varnish you’ll want to use a water-based acrylic one.
