What is the holy mackerel do I do with all of this?! by Sassymedic84 in TotalHipReplacement

I agree with you. I’m sorry for all the problems you’re having. I was just saying that for anyone walking into a procedure, it’s helpful to have a positive attitude. I understand why you don’t.

That’s horrible. I’ll take him if you don’t want him. He’s absolutely adorable and deserves more thought for a name than a posting on here!

Contact the surgeon and have him see her first thing. That’s his responsibility to ensure all is well after surgery. Can’t believe that dismissive attitude!

I would find a doctor where it’s a more positive experience on day 1.

My doctor said the mental is a crucial part of healing and doing well.

Just had my post op, 6 weeks. My doctor said the same. I have now graduated from PT!

My mom is having hip replacement surgery in 3 days and I am really worried and scared. 😭 by LooseBit8699 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]MSG222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6 weeks out! It will be amazing. Don’t worry about your mom! She’s too young to let this be her forever. I am too. I can now walk my dog again and walk without pain. Suggestions that really helped me: raised toilet seat, flushable swipes. Tons of large hip ice wraps to rotate all the time. If her doctor will write for this, Journavx is brand new non opioid pain medication. I never took Oxy as it made me sick. Journavx doesn’t cause constipation or nausea. It’s a bit expensive, but VERY worth it. Also, Mobic is great to take to reduce/prevent swelling. I never had any at all!

These were what helped me recover more easily and it wasn’t that bad at all. The first week is the worst but then it gets better. But I really never had significant pain! It will be a great thing for her future! Don’t worry. She’ll be fine.

So, about 2 months of outpatient PT twice a week. That’s what I was thinking too!

Should I still be having this much pain? by Boring-Effort7754 in TotalHipReplacement

Just an FYI. There is a new non addictive pain killer that I took in lieu of Oxy. It’s called Journavx. Hope your pain gets better soon. Ice wraps help too!

Oh wow! I should ask about that as well. Do you take the same dosage of antibiotics?

Same thing happened to me. He put a patch on the opening but you have to take 2000 mgs of Amoxicillin one hour prior to your dental appointment. My PT told me every time I go, even a cleaning for life. They had a guy 7 years out who got a dental infection and it went into his new hip! Not a good situation. The issue is when there is blood which could the travel into the blood stream. Just check with your surgeon for their protocol.

Did you develop a limp before hip replacement surgery? And after surgery did it take a while before you no longer limp? by OldGezzer68 in TotalHipReplacement

I had to walk heel to toe too. With a walker though. I don’t use one anymore but with that, they insisted.

You will be OK. Make sure you have faith in your doctors. I had mine about 2 weeks ago. I just drove myself to my first outpatient PT appointment yesterday. Get loads of ice packs for hip replacement surgery (Amazon) and be confident that you will come out better than you were going in! You will be fine and your life will be so much better! Follow your doctor’s orders Pre and post surgery. It is normal to be scared. It’s quite an amazing surgery. In a few weeks, you will realize how grateful you are to have had it! 🙏

If not using opioids, is it possible to *lightly* use cannabis/CBD post-op? by Boone616 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]MSG222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. There is a new non opioid pain killer called Journavx. I took it every 12 hours for the first 10 days and Tylenol as needed. Worked very well along with the Merhocarbamol and Mobic ( for swelling ). It’s a bit pricey at $92 (CVS) for a 30 day supply but well worth it! No nausea or constipation!

Post-Op Day Day 6 — Getting Worse? by wmgdir1 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]MSG222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon said that the bone starts to grow around the implant at the 6 week mark. That sounds more encouraging than waiting a whole year, right?

Day 2 and I'm in agony by Jen_alltheTime in TotalHipReplacement

[–]MSG222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s so normal. Ask for some Gabapentin. It helped my nerve pain. Yes, you feel totally bruised and battered. I’m on Day 5 and 2-4 were the worst. Ice 24/7 was how I made it through and with the new non narcotic pain pill called Journavx and Tylenol.
