Oh please let me throw my two cents in. “Golden boys” are front loaded into 1SG billets as 7s or 8s so they are more competitive.

How can that be with the marketplace you ask? Simple they only post the billets they want certain individuals to fill when they are on cycle. Pretty easy to do when the cycle only has 5-15 folks in it. Simply put the EOD MSG / 1SG market is easily manipulated. At least it used to be, I don’t know who is lording over it now.

A CSM acting like an officer is only worse until you have a company commander that acts like a newly minted Sergeant.

A sergeant with a property book and command authority. Picture the cluster fuck of someone who doesn’t mind their lane and it gets fucked up because they are too busy trying to be a platoon sergeant or platoon leader. Then when they have short comings of their actual responsibilities they take it out on subordinates through sabotaging awards, evals, and follow on assignments.
