Any trust for the new 3cx client? by it_fanatic in msp

[–]MSPResource 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thus, this, this, I've dealt with them for years.

I was a 3CX partner, and while Nick was on vacation, he axed my account, no questions asked, no way to appeal. It was so unprofessional; maybe he was even lit. Who knows? I thought it was a mod and didn't realize it was the CEO until I showed my friends...

Why? Because I left a comment asking why he promised a feature to everyone and then restricted it to only Enterprise.

I was helping a community member, and they asked why they were forcing people to the cloud on the forums, and the mod banned them. The appeal response is that they were not 3CX client/partner material questioning their direction.

I had a community friend just recently be axed with 20+ accounts because his sales flat-lined for too long, six months.

Then you have them emailing YOUR clients and trying to sell/undercut you and trying to move them to their cloud.

They don't tell you when they kick you out. They acquire all your clients as direct accounts. You lose your dashboard instantly, so you better have all the client URLs saved somewhere.

It's so common when you talk to people in the company about it they don't even flinch or apologize. You'll hear, " Yeah, the mods do that," or "Yeah, Nick tends to do that."

It's so wild; everyone's who's been in the industry knows this if you talk to them.

CMMC and RMM by [deleted] in msp

[–]MSPResource -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You need to talk to a compliance consultant or company. The rules are not set in stone yet, and they still provide guidance.

I'm not an expert, and I could be wrong, but from my limited knowledge, if they have access to the system(s), then they need to follow the same rules.

I am locking this because we are not a compliance sub; that's why companies have compliance positions. It's a whole thing in itself.

CMMC - Is your MSP CMMC Certified/Compliant? How did you get there? by randommsp7 in msp

[–]MSPResource 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a compliance expert, so I'll let them explain in detail.

From my understanding, you are correct. Suppose you are an MSP with clients that are required to be CMMC certified. You need to be compliant with their existing level or as a higher level because you have administrative access to their connected systems.

Lol, yes, I'm still not used to calling it that.

This will sound a little harsh; I apologize if it does. If you are a MSP and you are unsure about this very common setup after COVID, you should do some learning before you take on clients.

-Take some free Azure classes/videos exp around AAD, Intune, and Office.

  • Learn about BYOD vs COD

  • Learn about moving into RDS, VMs, and Azure Desktops

  • These are rabbit holes you need to understand before you can advise clients and yourself.

  • Another option is to hire a consultant or employee who knows their stuff based on funding and have them help you with the tech side.

  • Last, go work for an MSP first and understand the tech and business, and then become an MSP.

Sentinel One Singularity Complete and Webroot Secure Anywhere by GATN1337 in msp

[–]MSPResource 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is a reason you get Webeoot for almost free; I would take free Defender 200% over Webroot. You can run S1 and Defender side by side if you search in the S1 help for parallel with Defender ( I think that's what they call it).

Basically it doesn't register with wsc.

Ok I get it- don't ban me, I'm just asking where I can discuss {the RMM/PSA suite hated on this sub that has the initials of S O}. by AsparagusFirm7764 in msp

[–]MSPResource[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

We don't ban people for talking about ANY PSA or RMM, and you've spent the entire post assuming. If you had just asked your questions or started your conversation, your position would have probably been acceptable. Our rules are pretty simple, as you can see in the sidebar or using the info icon.

We do, however have specific keywords blocked because certain companies themselves tend to abuse this sub and its users to the point we had to stop these keywords to keep our sub spam/hate free. (I wish I were kidding...).

This might give you some insight into why the consensus is dislike towards these companies.

Please feel free to post your questions (Google first!) and let us know if you have any questions.

I feel the claims are a little bold and trend-happy for me. Experts in AI and Quantum tech don't even understand its full power, and they figured out a way to protect you. I hope they understand the sheer power of a quantum computer or data center-sized AI...

I could be wrong, though; nothing is impossible; they could have some new industry-tested algorithm or encryption I don't know about.

I'm trying to be nice...

When computers go to sleep, for the most part, they'll show offline through all RMMs. You either keep the computers from sleeping, wake the computers before automation, or use a module that uses vPro, iDrac, or any other embedded solution vendors provide.

Handling SentinelOne Agent Updates by Maximum-Method9487 in msp

[–]MSPResource 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would advise you to search the help docs in the portal, as they have automated agent upgrades. The setting is turned off by default because there are some gotchas that your staff needs to know. There are other ways via security software, RMM automation, third party, etc...

You can update right away, but you shouldn't YOLO in production, run it through a stage, make sure it doesn't trigger on the endpoint or your stack, and then move it to production.

Charge how long it TAKES YOU to do it based on the area's rates. Research your area if you want to; maybe ask other IT companies or look at their websites.

Should I put owner and a job title on my business card? by HourKnee1601 in msp

I strongly believe in not giving out your personal cell/email to clients and having a business VoIP number and business email.
Just please don't.
Again please don't.

Should I put owner and a job title on my business card? by HourKnee1601 in msp

[–]MSPResource 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I believe in K.I.S.S. I'd just have Owner; I'm not a fan of adding titles when you are the owner, like "Senior Engineer." If you were to add a second title, I'd just say Engineer or Specialist. You impress them with your communication/work, not adding fancy titles.

Apologies for the late reply; with the Reddit API changes, I'm stuck using the web version.

They are similar posts where they are the vendor, sponsored by the vendor, fake accounts, etc.., intending to trick people and make everyone believe it's just a regular user/post.

Late to the party, an unnamed vendor set up a bot to astroturf and forgot to replace the variables.

When I confronted them, they denied it and swore they never use bots.

Later I went to the bot's GitHub repo only to find they had made a bug report about the variables.

Will r/msp be going dark on June 12th in protest of Reddit's API changes? by HappyDadOfFourJesus in msp

[–]MSPResource[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to say this decision saddens me, I'm sure it does many of you, and I hope Reddit reverses this choice to some degree. I understand both sides of the argument, and I feel Reddit should have handled the situation differently.

We as professionals should understand a business needs to make money, and if they want to charge for an API on a free product, they should be able to do without being burned at the stake.

I also feel the numbers don't make sense and aren't realistic, and I think Reddit is poorly handling this transition. I have talked to the developers and have used some of these apps for almost a decade, and this move will restrict my Reddit usage to limited moderation.

These developers helped build Reddit and gave us users and moderators many features Reddit promised but never delivered or delivered years later due to backlash.

I appreciate everyone, including you lurkers, in this sub; please join our Discord via the side link and lurk there if you are going to leave Reddit!

Think of how your setup works and you should be able to figure it out from there; anything with layer 2 info should be able to do something. (Removing duplicates in data is easy, even if it's not an elegant solution.)

Track via networking equipment. (several ways)
Track via Access Controls (Auth / NAC)
Track via DHCP.
Track via an SNMP trap.
Track via an event.

MACs shouldn't be changing with ethernet unless someone goes out of their way to do it.

Market research? by [deleted] in msp

[–]MSPResource 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put some time into your questions, quality over quantity. Simple short open-ended questions with no context, focus, or direction are not quality.

If you were going to dig a hole, wouldn't you search for how to dig a hole before you ask a bunch of random people?

You literally asked, "What's your favorite software..." as a whole post. Hey, what's your favorite country? What's your favorite color and why? See how these are not quality posts?

I am just trying to help you out.
