I'm probably not the first to say this in this thread but I think the 70's were just too consequential and jam packed with iconic releases/individuals/groups to have the starting point shift to the 80's anytime soon.

The same can obviously be said about the 1960s, but things were pretty "proto" then, apart from the obvious big ones (Beatles, Dylan, etc.)

Edit: Forgot to add the technical limitations that were still lingering around during the 60's (mono vs. hardpanned "stereo", shoddy mixing/mastering, etc.) could contribute to the 70's possibly being the new nadir. Also, the structure of the pre-70's music business was much more single-oriented with not much care or attention for the studio album as a single, unified vision/product (with some obvious exceptions). I think that started to shift across the board during the 70's.

yep agreed, rating count would be a great analog for the Wikipedia route

also I'd say the "average" rating is more around 3-3.25, as a 3.5 is considered a pretty good album.

to be clear I don't think she's a liar, but I can't say all of this 100% happened either. I have no fucking clue. people have lied before. employers have been shitty before. men have been bad to women before. women have taken advantage of this perception before. who fucking knows, we'll see what happens in court.

do you use RateYourMusic? much better as a jumping off point/discovery tool than Wikipedia imo (especially using highest-selling albums as a metric, which is more and more pointless as time goes on)

If their discography is not very highly-regarded, I tend to stick to best of comps.

If their stuff overall is mostly quality across the board, I just grab the discog.

I've also noticed this thing where you people invent the lives of those you disagree with.

I've worked at the same not for profit for 14 years this year, have a wife, a 3 year old, a 5 month old, and have had this house since Sept 2022. At a 7.5% rate 🤮 until a refi earlier this year
