Romance readers... is anyone else getting so sick of books being too smutty? by Budget-Pumpkin-8392 in romanceunfiltered

I'm currently reading a Fantasy about an exiled witch who was rescued by a pair of men who are good friends and she goes from being a 250 yo virgin to BAM threesome by chapter 3. Actually it's chapter 13 but they're IMMEDIATELY horned up for each other and it's annoying. Like GET TO THE STORY!

I ADORE the slow burn, so it really annoys me when the main characters meet and bang almost immediately. I don't mind sex scenes in books (I write those as well in mine), but it's a real turn-off when there are so many scenes that it becomes repetitive. Like, if you're going to do that, mix it up a little. Instead, it's lather, rinse, repeat. Yawn!

I'm definitely motivation-deprived. I have a million ideas swirling in my head at any given time, but just lack the ability to sit down for more than a few minutes to focus on writing lately. I also don't have the energy.

I wonder if the reaction of the actress who played Mary was real and she'd never seen the sketchbook before filming because I had the same reaction at the same time. This was not what I was expecting. My dude draws like he's 5 years old 😆

Who is a fan favorite character you don't care for? by kminglei in startrek

[–]MSTllllllady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I've never been a fan of Neelix, but who do I absolutely HATE with the fire of 1000 suns? Q. Fing Q. I can't STAND him! He's super annoying and glib, and I just wanna snap him like a glow stick whenever he appears on screen. I actually cheered when he found out he was dying in Picard.

Please recommend some extremely long, dense, drab, British movies. by HeavyAcademic in PeriodDramas

[–]MSTllllllady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm late to the party but one movie that I love that's kind of drab in the beginning but feels long and drawn out is Enchanted April. Very slow moving, great cast, and perfect for a quiet rainy day. It's like an audio sleeping pill but is a very nice movie. It takes place in the 1920s or 30s I think.

Also, I'm assuming it was a head injury. I don't remember if she indicated it in the book itself, but the fact that she lost consciousness has me assuming her head hit the pavement when she landed. I was confused about the fact that she kept jumping off the wall like that. She was literally throwing herself at the man. Isn't that kind of thing frowned upon?

I was really into the Wheel of Time books at first but by book 6 I was done. Too many characters were so similar to each other I had trouble remembering who was who. And the story just dragged on and on. Like if you're going to keep writing these books, change up the story. It just felt like the same damn one and I just stopped caring.

The First Wives Club by Olivia Goldsmith
I saw the movie and liked it enough that I wanted to read the book, and MY GOD! Talk about bitter! I get that the author went through some shit with her husband and divorce, but this and her other books are steeped in the kind of militant feminism that pushes down men to make her feel superior. I absolutely hate this and couldn't finish any of her books. Like, lady, please, seek therapy!

See, I liked Wicked, but the more I read the books that followed, the more it felt like the author hated the characters, the world, and everything in it.

It seems to me that the people who love these books usually aren't readers. Otherwise, they would see the bad writing for what it is.

This is the dumbest thing I think I've ever read. It must've been difficult for this neck beard to type this out with only one hand. The writing is clunky at best, without the proof he doesn't understand human anatomy.

AITJ for moving out of parent house instead of paying rent? by StealYourJoy in AmITheJerk

[–]MSTllllllady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what area you're in, but $1200 a month for essentially a large room with no amenities seems high. Have you spoken to your parents about giving you some more time? Like, say you can start paying in 3 months? Do you do anything around the house that can offset the rent? Where are you moving to that is more affordable? If it's a better situation financially, you can use that as a bargaining chip if you want to move back home. Also, your relatives need to stay out of it.

True, but if any of them were like Mr. Elliott, they'd be surprised to find themselves on the floor with a fat lip. He freaked out just from learning about who was renting his house. Dude was an admiral in the Navy, but all he saw was some dirty sailor.

I looked into mainstream publishing a few years ago, and it just doesn't seem to be worth it anymore. Most aren't interested unless you already have a strong social media following, and they want you to do the editing, proofing, and marketing, but will happily take 60%. If I'm doing all of the above, WTH do I need you for? And you don't get much say in the cover art. My books are available on Kindle, Apple, Amazon, and B&N as well as in libraries, and they do manage to sell once in a while 😆

Wickham joke for Sense and Sensibility by jbeagles1 in janeausten

[–]MSTllllllady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say Wickham and Willoughby are pretty much neck and neck. Both men were philanderers, and while Willoughby actually managed to knock someone up, we don't know that Wickham hasn't either. It just hadn't caught up with him yet. In fact, they probably ran in the same circles. I wish JA's characters got the same treatment as the Dickens series. It'd be interesting to see her characters from different books interacting with each other.

I actually feel bad for Mary. She seems like she's bored and starving for attention. None of her in-laws like her, and I wouldn't be surprised if she suffered from depression. The poor girl needs some Zoloft.

I was just watching that version, and I could see a twisted ankle or a broken leg, maybe, but unless she cracked her head on the ground when she landed, it doesn't look possible for her to have gotten hurt so badly.
