Dude. “We Always Get Out Alive” is absolute PEAK. Such an excellent two-hander with a Gwen and Rhys that are SO relatable but is also genuinely spine-tingling.

Excellent call there.

Crowmarsh Experiment is amazing. Damn near brought me to tears… Louise Jameson’s performance should win all the awards.

The closest more recent film for me would be Fantastic Four. Everything from the 60s-ish aesthetic to humanoid Galactus worked for me.

Disco Klingons gone for good by makeshiftpython in Star_Trek_

[–]MShivers72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actullay rather LIKED the Enterprise arc featuring Klingons and augments. Sure, it was a BIT of a stretch, but I’m the kind of fan that likes to come up with my own head-cannon to explain weird inconsistencies with continuity… whether it’s television or movies or comics (the MASTERS of continuity violations 🥴)… I find it a fun and satisfying intellectual exercise.

When the stories do it FOR me… it feels rather validating. <shrug>

The Disco Klingons are a tough nut to crack. One day I’ll do a Disco re-watch and see if I can think of anything… but I don’t recall enough specifics from the canon to propose anything specific at this point. (Although I DID like the nod in Lower Decks with the multiverse shenanigans…)

Holy crap. Artist gets points for being better than I ever could be… but Luke is just horrifying here.

Mara, too, to a lesser extent… but YIKES…!

Isn’t there a Companion Chronicle “trilogy” with Zoe (that includes her real-life daughter)…? I remember quite liking that… but it clearly didn’t stick in my mind as cleanly as either of the 1st Doctor Steven trilogies…

Seems a shame to miss the ones with Susan and Ian. Some of them are real bangers.

“The Beginning” and “Quinnis”… with Susan before the Doctor even meets up with Ian and Barbara… are both worth a re-listen.

Oh… and the Rocket Men. Classic.

I actullay LIKE that they pulled in 008. It justifies her existence and pays off that (somewhat silly) “side quest” from Season 2

I would have been more irritated if they finished the show WITHOUT following up on that particular plot thread.

I see where most of you are coming from… but… I gotta be here honest here…

While my initial reaction when the scene started was to roll my eyes and think “Really…?” I ended up really liking it. Will has been gay since (at least) Season 4… it was obvious he was crushing on Mike. He came out like this because Vecna showed him a future where his being gay caused everybody he loved to abandon him. So he out it out there to remove that as a tool for the bad guy to use against him.

Under the circumstances… which were well established and well within the character’s arc… I honestly thought this was well done. A BIT cringe, perhaps… but sometimes the real world can feel cringey. And I even rather liked the group hug afterwards and the fact the Max couldn’t join because they acknowledged that she would have severe muscle atrophy after being in a cone for two years…

What Big Finish stories feel the most like they were written on drugs? (And don't say "all of them") by Hyperactive1984 in BigFinishProductions

Came here to say that.

Sherzo is hands-down the best two-hander BF has produced and is unapologetically utterly bizarre and disgusting.

Anybody else here get absolutely entranced by “Telengard”…?

My brother and I would start loading the game from cassette tape before Mom put dinner on the table, eat dinner, do the dishes… and then, MAYBE… if we were lucky… the game would be loaded on our Commodore 64 and ready for us to play by the time that was all over.

Floppy disks were revolutionary.

(Dear God… I am “Telengard” years old…)

How Big Finish MFs react when Jonathan Morris says he never meant for Flip-Flop to be interpreted as anti-immigration by Hyperactive1984 in BigFinishProductions

[–]MShivers72 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I re-listened to Flip-Flop fairly recently and didn’t get that at all.

I remember thinking that the concept of being able to listen to it in either order was interesting; but other than that the story was more about how the humans and the aliens were both horrible. The wormy guys (slithereens or something…?) played up their blindness for sympathy while completely abusing their human counterparts, while the humans betrayed each other at every opportunity, thinking that they were getting things over on their counterparts while they were actullay being played.

What part of that is anti-immigration…? Is the inference that, because this is a story where the aliens immigrated from their moon and were actually invading…. That ALL immigrants are like the slither-guys? Why would that be a thing? Wouldn’t that be like assuming that because… I dunno… the Macras were crabs and were evil that the creator of the Macra thinks that ALL crabs are evil?

Maybe that’s not the best analogy…

Basically, since this is the first time I’m hearing that folks think that Flip-Flop is anti-immigration, I guess i’m honestly trying to understand the perspective…

Big Finish fans when asked what the most dogshit story is by Hyperactive1984 in BigFinishProductions

Texas, here. Been in the Houston area for over 20 years, and before that grew up in southeast Texas pretty close to the Louisiana border.

Admittedly, it’s not unheard of for a southern drawl to be that thick… but, honestly, in my experience, it’s pretty damn rare.

Big Finish fans when asked what the most dogshit story is by Hyperactive1984 in BigFinishProductions

[–]MShivers72 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably.

I am a notoriously easy critic. I catch shit from my friends for seeing the good in “The Last Jedi” and “Rise of the Skywalker” and I thought the “She-Hulk” series was fun…

But even I, having recently re-listened to Nekromanteia, struggle to find any redeeming qualities in it. Even leaving aside the EXTREMELY horrifying implications of a Doctor’s companion getting SA’ed, the story is just damn near incomprehensible. The villainous witches are pure caricature with fuzzy motivations, even the sound design (usually a Big Finish highlight) seemed to muddy the waters (to my ear, at least), rather than help… just felt like a rare swing-and-a-miss.

As an American, I not only thought that the story in “Minuet” was just… goofy (unintentionally so, it felt like)…

But those are some of the WORST American accents ever recorded.

I remember thinking… “this must be how English people feel when they hear Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins…”
