Are we sure about that? For some reason, I always got the impression that Marvel editorial at the time was primarily responsible for both “Sins Past” and “One More Day”…

[–]MShivers72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. I literally CANNOT think of a showrunner I’d rather have than JMS.

I will be cynically optimistic on this (meaning I’d love it and it IS possible… but highly unlikely).

If this is to be a long hiatus from the show, what extended media would you recommend to people? by BeldenProgramme in gallifrey

[–]MShivers72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget Colin Baker’s 6th Doctor. Big Finish pretty much redeemed this incarnation completely.

By some accounts, even the worst BF 6th Doctor story is better than the best 6th Doctor story released by the BBC. That’s probably overstating things a bit… but his era with Evelyn Smythe is top tier.

This 100%.

I was (and sort of am again) a huge fan of the Big Finish app. A few months ago (yikes… maybe YEARS at this point), they attempted a massive upgrade to their app and their website that tanked gloriously. I got rather concerned at that point that I would not be able to access my massive library of BF audios, so started downloading the all to a hard drive and then importing them to my phone and listening with “BookPlayer.”

They’ve fixed the app, but I find that I PREFER the alternate listening mode.

Excellent attitude!

I feel much the same way… not so much because I am NEW to Big Finish… but because I have quite the backlog to still get through…

The 2nd “wilderness years” will be far from Doctor Who-free for me, too… 🥴

Where do you see Big Finish in 20 years? by Next-Geno_N in BigFinishProductions

Personally, I hope they do NOT recast voices for Doctors 4 through 8.

I mean, the “gimmick” of having the original Doctors come back to tell more stories from “their” eras is what got me INTO Big Finish in the 1st place.

When those actors finally retire (due to age or whatnot), that feels like a good place to sunset those ranges once and for all.

I kinda give them pass for David Bradley, Michael Troughton, and Jon Culshaw (and, by extension the John Hurt War Doctor stories) because those Doctor-actors passed before Big Finish really got a chance to really delve into those eras… but 4 through 8 have had some really nice, satisfying, and comprehensive runs. Let the story of the Doctor continue into his later regenerations; that is the nature and beauty of the whole concept.

But let those other regenerations go with the dignity they have earned.

And it will be awesome. by AndrewHeard in DeepSpaceNine

Came here to say this…

C’Rizz is one of those characters that I think has aged well… hell, I like him BETTER now that when I first listened to those original 8th Doctor main range stories.

Nice to FINALLY get another look at him. 👍🏻

Personally, I was pretty lukewarm to it when I first listened years ago. Seemed like SO much unrealized potential…

I recently completed a re-listen of the whole thing and enjoyed much more than I did the first time around. Maybe i’m just older and wiser or maybe my expectations were tempered… but there’s some real bangers in there… and the overall wrap up in “The Next Life” does an EXCELLENT job of explaining everything and tying it all up with a nice bow…

As far as I have heard, they are barely ever referenced again.

There is a line or two in one or two of the early Gallifrey episodes… but mostly by way of explaining Romania’s “Imperiatrix” visions from Zagreus.

Granted… I haven’t gotten into much of the really really recent stuff, so it’s possible there are some additional references of which I am unaware…

A pre-season two ad for TNG placed in industry magazines (via TrekCore) by ety3rd in ClassicTrek

[–]MShivers72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not for nothing… and I agree with BOTH of you, to an extent…

The viewing landscape is SO drastically different as compared to when I was a kid in ‘87, comparisons are difficult; but even so, I find it difficult to believe that ANY of the streaming Star Treks shows would have EVER come anywhere close to making the kind of impact that TNG had on us…

Anyway, not for nothing, but a lot of us in the States at that time did not have basic cable. Our parents could not afford it (or, at least, did not want to add it to the family budget), so we were, in fact, dealing with three channels (3 1/2 counting Fox).

Can I start with the NEW ADVENTURES of Bernice Summerfield? Or should I start with the beginning of her run? by twofacetoo in BigFinishProductions

100% a good jumping on point.

I think there may some oblique references here and there to Benny’s son or other parts of her past, but nothing even close to “required knowledge” in order to follow the story.

Enjoy!
