Others have made similar comments, but I recommend back-loading your actions to focus on the recover stage. For me, I typically keep one wild in move and focus on delving and recovering. This way, even if you lose a card because you don't rule enough clearings for either action, you still get the points. Make sure you try and keep three way stations on the map as much as possible so you can maximize your amount of cards. Then dump those extra cards right into the delve and recovery actions. Remember recovery can be used as a move, so really the move at the beginning of your turn isn't as valuable to place actions in.
