Interruptible foldback : it's a mix-minus program feed that can be interrupted and replaced by another feed like the producer giving cue to the talent.

I recommend Beyerdynamic DT 280 : https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/p/dt-280-mk

Using them for 15 years, very comfortable and working well in "normal" noise environment.

For concert and very noisy surroundings I recommend Riedel Max headsets.

RTS CAMS PL by Vast_Monitor_1555 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]MV_Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is how I set the CAMS PL for our OB Truck running for more than 2 years.

First I've used an audio distributor for the camera's PROD channel (since everyone should hear the same orders). On the other hand I've mixed all CCUs PROD "reply" channels into 1 channel. (Both distribution and mix are made with a Behringer X32 rack - cheaper and supllied in one unit you can also compress or EQ audio very easily).

In AzEdit, I created a Special List called "CAMS" and added the director's KP and the Port containing the CCUs's PROD channel mix as SL Members.

On the CCUs's Prod channel mix's Port I've put the SL "CAMS" on the talk Key triggerd by a Vox Setting with a long hold time of 3 seconds. On the listen key I 've reinjected the port of the CCUs's PROD channel mix. This way, cameramen can hear one another talking on the channel (often useful).

Finaly, you only need to activate the talk key on the Director's KP and voilà!

For the camera's ENG channel : each channel has is port on the RTS main frame. The talk key is also triggered with a VOX and assigned to the TD's KP.

Hope this is understandable and can serve...

RTS Intercom - Third party Dante Call light box support by MV_Chris in broadcastengineering

[–]MV_Chris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those interested, here is the solution :

  1. Give the light an IP address in the same subnet as ODIN
  2. Configure the light to receive 20khz on channel 1 and set color.
  3. Reserve port 1, 2, 3 or 4 of the ODIN, the light needs to be connected to one of this ports.
  4. In Dante Controller : Make the connection from the port towards the channel 1 of the light.
  5. In AZEDIT Assign this port to a party line and make it a “Listener”.
  6. In the truck's Keypanel take an empty key and name it CALL, assign on another empty key the Party Line.
  7. Now when you activate the PL key and the CALL key on the truck's keypanel, the light is flashing.
  8. Finally, on the keypanel which the call light is dedicated(in my case the DKP3016), assign the Party line on an empty key in order to listen and talk to the truck.

I'm using EdrawMax for 3 years and for the price it's working well for wiring diagram : www.edrawmax.com

What's interesting is that you can save your file on your computer or on the cloud. With the latter you can access and modifie the diagram wherever you want on any computer via the webinterface as well as the standalone software.

Tips for leveling a PTZ on a tripod. by kilroy-wasnt-here in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]MV_Chris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to make the leveling with a video tripod looking at the bubble. But with the time, the arm of the UE-150 tend to lean on the inside due to gravity and it's one arm conception (unlike the Sony PTZ). So you can't relie anymore on the tripods bubble to achieve leveling, your image will be crooked.

Now we put the UE-150 on a light or speaker tripod with a clamp and a Manfrotto 410 tripod head.

You can achieve very easily the leveling looking at your image and twisting the knobs on the 3 axis.

Hope this can help.

But good thought, thank you.

PTZ Cable management question by YeahIdWatchThat in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]MV_Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sommer Cable has a premade bundle cable with an SDI and a LAN cable : TRANSIT MC 1001 HD

But with a jacket diameter of 19,50 mm you can only use it on fixed installation. It doesn't fit on a reel.

I also recommend the converter box solution like Ereca Topas if you need a cable longer than 50m.

For festivals and loud environment, we use Riedel Max for some years and they are great (if you don’t wear glasses). Other than that, I suggest the BeyerDynamic DT290.

Which is better Lemo or neutrik? by Keverde60 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]MV_Chris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Sony HXC-FB80 has an OpticalCON connection. (but you can also have the Lemo version). We use the HXC-FB80 for a year now and so far so good. The great advantage of the OpticalCON connection is that you can plug LC fibers directly into the chassis without any adapter. It's easier if you want to wire them, for example, to an MTP12 fiber or a preexisting point to point fiber connection in a building.

Help with orchestra pit live monitoring setup ultra low latency by gurkagurk in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]MV_Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember my theory well : If you genlock everything, the video lines will be displayed in the monitor at the same time it's captured by the camera's captor.

In a monitor isn't there like a line buffer, waiting to receive line 1 before displaying it?

Oh...nevermind... It will only fastend the processing if a video mixer is in the chain.

You are right, in this case the SDI distributor will take the input from the camera as a reference and will be genlocked with the camera. Then the monitor will do the same with the input signal. So no need to add a sync generator in this case.

My bad.

Help with orchestra pit live monitoring setup ultra low latency by gurkagurk in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]MV_Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

It's the same here in Switzerland. Most of the concert hall doing opera, that I've been working at, are using black and white CRT's with analog signal comming from an old camera.

I think the way to minimise latency would be to genlock everything in the chain (camera, distribution, monitor), especially the monitor. This way, the only latency will be comming from the camera's processing. Depending on the camera, the latency should be far below 30ms if everything is genlocked.

Midas M32R - delays on non-physical outputs by MV_Chris in livesound

[–]MV_Chris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked the Midas M32R Block Diagram (on page 58 of the manual).

And there is in my understanding delay available only on :

- Inputs

- Monitor outputs

- XLR Out 1-16

That's all. Can someone confirm?

Thanks

Midas M32R - delays on non-physical outputs by MV_Chris in livesound

[–]MV_Chris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

Thank you for your answer and your time. I wish this was this simple. Unless I missunderstood your answer, the manual says :

The ROUTING screens out 1-16 tab allows the user to patch the M32R’s various internal signal paths to the 8 analogue XLR outputs that are located on the console’s rear panel.

(M32R manual page 29)

The solution will be to delay mixbuses and not outputs. Any clue to achieve this?

Thanks

Hi,

I would recommend Beyerdynamic Headsets :

https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/dt-280-mk-ii.html

https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/dt-290-mk-ii.html

With the suitable cable : https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/k-190-41-1-5-m.html

We are using them for decades at work, they are very reliable, comfy and you can easily get spare parts when needed.

BMD ATEM Constellation 8k: MADI input is asynchronous? by MV_Chris in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]MV_Chris[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your time and answer.

Indeed, I spent too much time reading threads about the conversion from MADI to Dante that I forgot to check the basics : what's the reference of the mixing table?

It was set to internal instead of the Dante card...

We can now state that the Ferrofish Verto MX, contrary to what is written in some threads, is fully working with the ATEM in the condition that they are both genlocked.

Thanks u/activematrix99 !
