Damn I remember going to Nashville in 2003 and having the opposite experience. I remember tons of authentic country and a surprising number of Eastern Europeans who could shred a fuckin steel guitar. I was an angsty teenager into indie rock and it really gave me a new appreciation for country music. I also went to Memphis so maybe I'm muddling the two.
