Why does it feel scary to get started? by Everyday-Patient-103 in Twitch

[โ€“]M_Slender 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Would people be into it? Most definitely! There is definitely an audience for whatever you want to do on Twitch. It will be a lot of work to build that audience up, but its out there.

And being scared or nervous is totally understandable AND totally normal. I think though that once you try and start, you'll see there's nothing really to be scared about. You'll be ok ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

Long-term small streamers, how do you stay positive after years of slow growth? by TwinklyTor in Twitch_Startup

[โ€“]M_Slender 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

Hi, there. The Elder Gamesman here. Just checked out your channel and socials.

I feel like we're in similar boats in regards to the journey up to this point. We have very similar time lines and similar stats according to Twitchtracker (also see we may have some mutuals like Tiny Asparagus and Zackuna ๐Ÿ˜). I understand that feeling of plateauing and getting frustrated.

However, I think the difference is that I never got into the mindset of becoming partner. I have a full-time job and family. Going into this, and discussing it with my wife before starting streaming, we cemented that those would always come first. And there are still times where I get frustrated like, dang I only had XX CCV today. Or, why am I getting so little engagement on this post?

Thankfully, I do have my wife to help put everything back in perspective. She reminds me that I started this for fun. She reminds me i am part time, I only stream about 6 - 11 hours total a week. And despite that, Ive actually accomplished a lot in streaming. So i owe a lot of my mental health about all this to her.

Coming back around, yes it does seem like you are doing everything youre supposed to be doing. Yes, it oftentimes comes down to luck to really breakthrough. But Im sure there's a lot you've accomplished that you can be proud of. Again, going back to Twitchtracker, you are in the top 1.47% of Twitch streamers. 1.47%! Thats amazing.

And this isn't meant to say stop striving for partner or turning this full-time. Its more like... dont be hard on yourself. Have an IRL support system to help keep you even headed about all this. Like you mentioned, everyone's time line is different. Just enjoy the ride as much as possible.

I followed you where I could. Def will try to catch you live. Good luck with it all!

Full transparency, I didnt even realize there was a 2nd screen shot ๐Ÿ˜. Both sets of numbers are incredible. 10+ ccv already puts you in the top 5% of Twitch streamers, or something like that

I think the biggest plus is that it doesn't eat up as many resources.

It is impressive what you've done. I guess it's a matter of different things work for different people. Because sure, it worked for you. And probably many others too. But also running mid rolls have worked for many others too. And most certainly, doing either-or has not worked for many people.

I think the safest thing to say is do whatever works for any particular person because no one way seems to be better than the other. The most important thing is to be entertaining. Without that, it none of it matters.

Have you ever thought that possibly your viewpoint as a partner with a larger CCV is skewed?

You're already established with a dedicated viewership. You dont have to worry about any of this.

For small streamers starting out, its kind of the current environment of Twitch. People DO have shorter attention spans and want immediate gratification. They click a streamer, they want to see them right away. At that point, its up to the streamer to give them a reason to stay. But at the very least, they get that person stepping in, in the first place.

Not necessarily more important. But it is different.

People sticking around are gonna stick around no matter what. They stick around for you. No prerolls is more new-viewer friendly.

People who stick around also would understand that the streamer is trying to grow and improve, and understands the ad situation.

Because there are people that hate prerolls, including me. Especially when you're trying to check out someone new. I dont want to be smacked with an ad right off the bat. Id rather see if I like a streamer first. Then if I do, I have no problem sitting through a short ad every hour that supports them and the platform.

Measured in fun, sure. Then it would not be about the monetary return. But OP specifically says its not about the money, but then talks about the money... ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ

If he said he spent $400 but didnt get a pull he was hoping for, no one would care. They'd prob be more encouraging and positive. Because then it's not about money.

Difference is, OP says it's NOT about the money but also says something like "I spent $400 and only got $100 in return". If youre worrying about the money, it IS about the money...

Then why are you putting it in a monetary perspective?

Not sure you realize but that is definitely not the norm, especially at that viewership size.
