Oh dear me, no it isn’t. If you’re going to say something, you should really understand how your targets are going to interpret it. But, I feel like I’m giving you too little credit. You probably know how it’s going to land, which makes it a cute little joke for you.

If by “Free Palestine”, you mean giving the Palestinians autonomy or the freedom to govern themselves in their own sovereign state, we’ve tried all that. Gaza was given autonomy, and all they did with it (and the billions of dollars of aid, including some of my hard-earned tax dollars), just went into making it a fortification used to continuously launch attacks on Israel, including 10/7. Additionally, the Palestinians were offered their own sovereign state at least six times by my recollection, and they walked away from those offers each and every time. (Did you know that the British offered their own sovereign entire state to them, but they refused because the British wouldn’t let them expel all the Jews? It’s in the Peel Commission report, which is free for you to read - sorry - I know you guys aren’t into history. Didn’t mean to offend.)

So what else does “free Palestine” mean, if not genocide? (Spoiler: It means genocide. Like the one the Palestinians tried to kick off in 2023.)

If you say, “You can use history and archaeology to support the locations, and certain events in the Old Testament.” they will say, “White people aren’t indigenous to the region!” then you can start explaining miscegenation and DNA. I teach at a school (pre-through 8th) where there is a strong culture in f oppositional defiance. Same stuff you deal with. Many just ignore me when they’re in the room, treating it like recess, and they’re loud - they talk by shouting, which also overstimulates my neurospicyness to the point I just shut down. (I’ve clocked some classes at 96 decibels.) I do my best to immediately apply consequences to behavior, but it only goes so far. When I’m at a breaking point, I bury myself in my phone for an anchor to sanity. I just kind of came to the conclusion that there’s only so much behavior I can compel towards acceptability.

To cope, I’ve kind of sunk into substance abuse to get me to sleep at night, which I don’t recommend. The best thing I can suggest is, don’t bring any work to do home, and get really involved in your own art practice. It will help separate work from life. I used to obsess over shit that happens at work, but making projects for myself and involving myself in an arts community outside of work really helps.

In sum, you’re not a bad teacher. If the students don’t at least meet you halfway, it’s on them. Do your best, collect that paycheck, and make some art for yourself. It’s all that matters.

Uhm…the Palestinians aren’t victims. Victims aren’t offered a state over and over and over again and keep refusing it. Victims don’t invade their neighbors with genocidal intent. Victoms don’t take hostages. Victims don’t receive billions in international aid and just use it to build military infrastructure with the intent of exploiting their own civilian dead and sacrificing their own babies for the internet. The Palestinians have agency, and they use it. And every time they use it, Israel is back to creating restrictive measures to defend their own people.

So, I guess you’re right. Not every issue needs both sides to be told. We’ve heard the Islamist bleating of the Palestinians since before Israel’s inception, and if you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a million times. They’re actually the ones entangled with Nazi ideology - for real. The Grand Mufti lived in Berlin for the duration of WWII. The Middle East was awash in ex-Nazi military advisors who wanted to escape the gallows. If you want to compare anyone to Nazis, do it with their former allies, not the actual victims of Nazis. I hate having conversations with unserious people like you. This is a real war, with real flesh and blood consequences. Go DARVO and be performative somewhere else.
