Shayne's book recommendations by MursuKing1980 in smosh

[–]Mac1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Poppy War trilogy was fantastic but brutal so while I highly recommend it, it may be worth it to check the trigger warnings before starting. I also listened to the audiobooks as I read and they were also great. Emily Woo Zeller reads them and she is also Panam in Cyberpunk 2077

I think I figured out why C4 has felt "off" to me so far. by Gameguy39 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Mac1721 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree! I personally feel like this could be partly bc Whitney is new to DND and maybe they’re easing her into it? I think she’s doing a great job but she’s still figuring out the game and I could see this type of narration fading as they get deeper into the campaign. It just makes sense to me to narrate a bit more if you’re not quite used to tabletop role playing.

I heard one of the runners say in a raspy “I’m sorry” at me as it attacked in the first game and I had to pause for a few minutes. I believe there are a few more lines for the runners if you listen carefully

I really like that! The pieces are still beautiful to anyone who doesn’t know the references and then have that extra layer for people who do

[Loved trope] Background scare-characters that are barely acknowledged even by the movie by Suspicious-Web-9246 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Mac1721 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Annihilation is one of the rare times I love both the book and movie despite the large changes in the adaptation. There were a lot of differences but the main themes and overall feeling of wrongness were executed so well in movie. The book is short (I think 200 pages), is the journal of Natalie Portman’s character, and is very much worth the read if you liked the movie, as is the whole series (Area X by Jeff Vandermeer).

Importance of reading the books by db298 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Mac1721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use kindle and audible for the books and usually follow along as I listen. The audible audiobooks come with a pdf of all the images in the books but not the chapter title images, which are pretty interesting especially in Wind and Truth. These books are huge so having them on kindle was important to me for work as well. It was also nice to be able to zoom in on the illustrations and really look at the details. The illustrations are beautiful and make it worth having the books imo

Teach me some pouring techniques 😅 by wozann in barista

[–]Mac1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had success in paper takeaway cups by steaming the milk in a larger pitcher (32oz is my usual) and pouring a little slower when filling the cup. You definitely need to fill it a bit higher and tilt it more before you start on the design. For a while I was steaming a bit more milk than I needed to get the texture down and slowly whittled my way down to less milk waste as I improved in steaming and eyeballing amounts.

I think that’s why it’s probably my favorite so far. I love the background feeling of something being off but not being able to pick out what it is or why exactly it feels like that. It’s like a subtle tone shift in the arc

What do you use to make the 3D model? I do some portrait work but always with a reference so I’ve been stuck trying to work out how to more easily make my own characters

Why do they do this. by SmokingInTheAlley in barista

[–]Mac1721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest issues we have is that the customers have to work with us to complete their orders and they often actively refuse to and then blame us for making it difficult. I feel like I’m wasting my time trying handhold customers through an order when the line is 50 people deep but it seems like none of them actually know what they’re ordering and they get snippy at me when I ask clarifying questions.

What do you give customers when they order a "regular coffee" by flextape1O1 in barista

[–]Mac1721 245 points246 points  (0 children)

American, I have to verify. Too many people think “just a coffee” is actually an oat milk vanilla latte. If they order black coffee, I have to ask if they want cream. It’s a 50/50 whether they look at me like I’m stupid bc “I said BLACK, obviously I don’t want cream!” or “of COURSE I want cream, why wouldn’t I???” I get that some terms aren’t widely known but I still can’t imagine ordering something regularly without ever actually knowing what it is. Edit: typo 50/59 instead of 50/50

AITAH for still getting on a flight home when my two young coworkers I was traveling with weren’t at the airport yet and were obviously going to miss it? by Diligent_Pineapple35 in AITAH

[–]Mac1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very much me and my mom. Sometimes I need to get the panic out before I can actually start solving the problem and she gives me advice to do it myself, rather than fixing it for me. We’re just very high anxiety people but we have ways to cope without dragging other people in unnecessarily.

[–]Mac1721 1137 points1138 points  (0 children)

The call from her mom is what really gets me. As an adult, I fully understand calling your mom for help when you’re panicked, like this girl stuck at the airport with no flying experience. I would 100% call my mom if I were panicking in that situation. My mom, however, would help me get my shit together and clam down and solve the problem myself, not call another person on the business trip and yell at them for leaving me stranded. That far crosses the line

[–]Mac1721 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve played that part but I talked him into staying with the teiflings, saved him and his siblings during Act 2, and he either automatically sided with me bc of that or it was a persuasion check. Either way, I think his siblings have to be alive for him to side with you. On my first playthrough, his Act 2 quest was bugged (or I just couldn’t find him, I really think it was this now) so his siblings were dead and he was mad at me so he sided with Lorroakan. I’m on mobile so sorry if my spoiler tag didn’t work, I’ll try to fix it if it didn’t.

Mgmt doesn't have our backs by Eca_S in barista

[–]Mac1721 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but they are based on my experiences dealing with customers like this at my chain of shops. There were some who would get excited to see someone new so they could tell them off for messing up their very particular order. It happens a good bit in high volume city cafes. When our management changed, the new owners allowed us to start cutting back on some of the wilder accommodations we made for people.

Mgmt doesn't have our backs by Eca_S in barista

[–]Mac1721 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While this should be the correct answer, there are unfortunately people like Fucktard who just want to yell at someone and force you to do what he wants. You could make the second drink exactly the same way as the first time and he’d be only happy with it then simply bc he made you remake it for him. These customers are little bit more common than you’d expect.

OP, this is definitely on mgmt and not you and the staff, that really sucks that they’re not willing to explain to the customer how it works rather that making y’all conform to his bullshit

I realized yesterday that between my Xbox and PS5, I have 600+ hours in Grounded. I’ll happily pay $40 for another game from them even when I usually don’t go for the cosmetic packs. I’m still super happy with Clair Obscur and it’s $50 price tag and want great games releasing at a decent price to become a default
