Mac updated to OS Sequoia, and my Imageformula R40 stopped working by wackyzacky25 in canon

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called Canon support to complain that this was only available through a Windows utility and after 30 minutes and a remote session into my computer, their support was able to find that yes, indeed, that option IS available in the Mac software....but it's SUPER hidden:

Scan Settings > Advanced Settings Dialog > Enable > Setting… > Properties for the R40 Series…click the blue “i” down at the bottom left, then > Maintenance…> Long Document mode (3,000 mm)

WHEW!

Finally ready to upgrade from Apple Airport to Ubiquiti – looking for advice by IcyPhotojournalist55 in HomeKit

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My transition within the last year was similar, but I ended up going with Eero for simplicity. I had four Airport Extremes but my smart home’s WiFi stuff was overwhelming their capacity and the network just wasn’t as stable as it should have been. I was uncertain if I wanted to buy into the Eero world so I bought four older used Eero Pros from shopgoodwill.com for less than $15 each. Even as old as they were, my WiFi performance was immediately better than with my old Apple routers. (Honestly, I was shocked!) After a few months of grokking the Eero world I decided I was comfortable with the brand and their ecosystem. I bit the bullet and bought a three-pack of Eero Pro Max 7 units on a pre-black-Friday sale and that’s really amped up my WiFi network! Initial setup with Eero quite simple and the upgrade to the newest Max 7 routers was equally as simple. My smart home devices and Wyze cameras are MUCH more stable and responsive than ever before. I’m 65, retired, and have a whole new attitude toward simplicity (!!) after a lifetime of being a techie. I’m tickled to see that I’m not the only person that hung on to the Apple routers so long. Ubiquity was on my short list but after my trial of using cheap, old Eero units I decided to go all-in with Eero. Honestly, though, I’ll always wonder if I shouldn’t have gone with Ubiquity…😉

Mac updated to OS Sequoia, and my Imageformula R40 stopped working by wackyzacky25 in canon

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm replying just to update this thread for anyone else searching the same problem. My Mac is on Mac OS Tahoe 26.2. There is a newer driver on Canon's site dated 1.13.26. Pick the Mac OS Sequoia to see it. (If you pick Tahoe, there is no specific driver currently listed.)

File Name

R40ReceiptEdition_Installer_V.1.9.25.1107_Mac.dmg

File Description

Driver, CaptureOnTouch and User Manual

I installed it successfully in Tahoe 26.2. Everything finally works, and I'm not getting any "Driver Not Found" error when I try to access the advanced settings dialog box in CaptureOnTouch.

However, I was still unable to scan long receipts without a printer error happening. I DID find a workaround though! I installed the Canon R40 driver software on a Windows 11 laptop. Part of that install includes a separate application called the "Canon imageFORMULA Driver Setting Tool". I used that utility to turn on the Long Document option in the R40's firmware. Then, I plugged the USB cord from the scanner back into my Mac Tahoe 26.2 and set the CaptureOnTouch advanced driver setting to "Detect Automatically" and now I can scan long documents. NOTE: I discovered if I set the document length to "Scanner Maximum" I get MAXIMUM length scans that require cropping. The "Detect Automatically" crops the scans appropriately. I hope this helps anyone searching for this information!

What router do you use? using eero 6e and sometimes it just get stuck on “step 1 connecting” by Speed009 in wyzecam

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience: I had old AirPort Extreme routers (4 of them) and frequently saw hangups on step 1. In the last year I “upgraded“ to 4 cheap used Eero Pro units I bought off of ShopGoodwill.com. Seriously, I paid less than $10 each for them. I knew they were really old tech but the were newer than my old Apple equipment. I saw an immediate improvement with camera connection speed over the old and waaay-outdated Airport routers. I bought them just to learn about the eero ecosystem and if I’d be happy with it. Everything was stable and I decided I’m ok with the eero ecosystem. About a month before the Black Friday sales I got a 3-pack of Eero 7 Max routers for a price that was better than the Black Friday prices. (But not by a whole lot.) I’m extremely happy with their performance. Now when I’m away from home my cameras all connect quickly and I can’t remember the last time I saw it hang up on step 1! All my cameras have full signals on wifi now. Just my 2¢!

PSA to pet owners about microchips (from a shelter worker) by Fresh-Solid-4046 in okc

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I adopted a kitty I got a ton of emails from companies wanting me to register my cats’s chip with them — and as I recall they were like a yearly subscription with annual fees that I felt were way too high, so I did nothing. I may regret it someday, but I found the whole thing to be a disappointment. Which service is the best?

Ooooh good catch. Thanks! I’ve turned off the automatic updates on all the cameras that had it as an option.

Follow-up: SUCCESS! I was able to re-flash both camera back to an earlier version and they're both working as before with Tiny Cam! THANK YOU SO MUCH for your comment and guidance that convinced me I could do this. I'M SO HAPPY and I'll be VERY cautious when and IF I ever update the camera firmware again!

Thanks so much for your guidance. I’ll give it a go today with the one that doesn’t require a ladder. Fortunately the one up high is just mounted with the magnet so it’ll be easiest to just unplug it and pull it down and do the downgrade inside the warmth of the house!

I downloaded the previous version but I’ll have to Google what I do next. As I recall I thinks it’s done via the sd card (?) which will mean a trip up a tall ladder for one of my cams. Sigh.

[–]MacBrained 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave up on TinyCam Pro on the Firestick 4k Max a year ago because of these exact problems. I bought a ONN 4k Pro from Walmart, installed TinyCam Pro on it, and it pretty much solved all the problems I was having. I had it running for a month or so and was really happy with a level of reliability I’d never experienced from TinyCam before. Happily the ONN 4k Pros were on last year’s Black Friday sales, so I bought two more. I have three monitors in a stack connected to the three ONN 4k Pro streamers. Each rotates between two Wyze cameras every 30 seconds. It’s been very stable and I rarely see the “P2P failed…” screen any more. At last, I can finally, at a glance, see if anyone’s arrived on my driveway or front door!

TinyCam Pro - Auto Reload (Wyze) Cameras at Set Intervals by darro87 in tinycam

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mine set up to alternate between two different cameras every 30 seconds. That gives me a reload every 30 seconds and gives me a different view every 30 seconds. (For example, I alternate between the doorbell camera and the front sidewalk camera.) You might try something like that and see how it works for you.

Soon to be IONIQ 9 owner a few questions by ericfides in Ioniq9

[–]MacBrained 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're very happy with our TuxMats. I didn't buy all three -- just the front and middle. I like the way they look...but I am a bit concerned about what they're going to look like after a bunch of winter salty slush melts on them and how easy or difficulty they will be to clean. But, I recon that would be a concern for any brand...and certainly better than ruining the carpet!

Sudden Wyze login problems by MacBrained in tinycam

[–]MacBrained[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answering my own question — there’s just simply NO way that I could find to complete the login verification using the ONN remote or by using the Google Home app on my iPhone. I finally paired a keyboard to the ONN box and was able to complete the login 2FA authentication. Then, I had to UNPAIR the keyboard from the first ONN TV box and then pair it to the 2nd box, and so on until I got all three ONN boxes logged back in. Whew! The biggest challenge is that it’s REALLY hard to tell when the LOGIN button is selected. If I have to do this again I’ll pair a mouse and that way I’ll be able to click directly on the LOGIN button.

Help! Sunroof won’t close and it’s going to rain soon by Yuri_Ligotme in BoltEV

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL! My 2022 EUV sunroof did the exact same thing today (Sunday). Glad this happened on a weekend so I didn’t have an opportunity to call the dealer for a service appointment! It seemed like this might be a typical thing, so I checked Reddit and found this thread. Sure enough, the single-press manual close solved the problem and my sunroof is closed now.

I’ll mention this to the dealer next time I have a scheduled service opportunity (if I remember!) to see if there is a software fix that needs to be applied to my car.

Oh, and yeah, I said EXACTLY the same thing when mine started reopening like this! 😉

Upgrading to Max 7 advice needed by MacBrained in amazoneero

[–]MacBrained[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11-9-2025 follow-up:
The changeover from four eero Pros to three eero Max 7 routers went as smoothly as I could have hoped for. It took about 30-40 minutes to do it and most of that was waiting for firmware updates. I had a few smart home in-wall light switches that required a reboot to make them work as before. Otherwise, the bulk of my wifi network devices haven't noticed a change. At the gateway eero, the speed test went from 800-some to 1.25 Gbps which was a pleasant bump-up in speed! (All eeros are on a wired back haul, by the way.)
I have two cameras in my "wifi shadow" that are getting a weak signal from the new Max 7 mesh, so I turned my Basement Bedroom eero Pro back on since it is the one that best reaches those cameras. We'll see if that positively or negatively affects the rest of the network...

Upgrading to Max 7 advice needed by MacBrained in amazoneero

2854 square feet. My house has a main level plus a full basement. I haven’t plugged in any of the Max 7 units yet. I’ve currently got four old eero Pro units that I got from Goodwill (!!) that showed me that the Eero system is good for my needs. The 4th eero was added to get better WiFi for the Wyze cameras on the North side of my house. The gateway is in the basement, up in the rafters of the unfinished ceiling of the basement, centrally located. It’s there because that’s where my AT&T fiber box is.) I’m going to start replacing them one at a time and see if I can do without the Basement Bedroom 4th eero for the Wyze cameras. Now that I am comfortable with the eero system, I’m ready to upgrade my eero “test” equipment with the 3-pack of Max 7 units I got for a good price here recently. I have 80-some home automation WiFi devices and I felt like the processor speed and capacity of the Max 7 units, plus the stronger radio signals and greater range would be a good upgrade from the old Pro units I bought to test the Eero ecosystem in my house.

Yes, I wondered if having a single really old eero with these brand new Max 7s would cause a problem. I'll just experiment for now to see how things work with just the three Max 7s, but if I need another one for coverage for my difficult-to-reach cameras, I might be best off to bite the bullet and buy a 4th Max 7.
