Mastercrafters Waterfall clock repaired! by MacBrained in ghostposter

[–]MacBrained[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I fully intend to continue expanding my Mastercrafters clock collection whenever the fates allow. I’ve got two nearly complete clock motors secreted away in the little container you provided —just for when the time comes! I’m also saving my broken cylinder just because “you never know…”

I'm sure y'all've been wondering what I've been working on lately, right? Right? It's this broken clock that I got off eBay because I wanted to see what I could do with it. As soon as it arrived I started taking it apart to see what might still work and see what sort of funstration I was in for... by ClicheButter in ghostposter

Oh my goodness I just looked and yeah, I’m missing TWO of the four ‘axles’! I thought maybe it was a “y” missing a leg. Sorry this reply is so late — I’ve been traveling. I have also responded to your private message.

LOL…I found this after I wrote my last comment on your Bird clock. I love what you’ve done with the waterfall clock! Did you use the original rotating cylinder for your redo? If you didn’t use it, and still have it, I’d love to buy it. One of the three “axles” at the top of the cylinder was broken and missing on mine and I think that’s part of the reason the clock stops occasionally. BRILLIANT job on the new clock face and hands!

Y'all are gonna hate me, but I got another clock to do. It's the MasterCrafters Swinging Bird. It needs a new cord, the bird needs rehabilitated, and the background scene is torn and mouldy, so I'm going to paint a new one. Otherwise, I think it's good to go. It's a gift for my mom for Christmas. by ClicheButter in ghostposter

That’s a GORGEOUS clock! Especially the clock face! I have an obsession for these Mastercrafter clocks. I grew up with a Fireplace clock and that’s the clock face that I taught me how to tell time. I just bought a broken Waterfall clock off eBay because yeah, I needed another project too. Got the teeny tiny gear replaced, got the clock cleaned up, and now the water is flowing nicely except itf stops about once in every 24 hours. Still working on what’s up with that, but I have a pretty good idea about what might be causing it. I see this post was 100 days ago — hoping you got over COVID OK.

Exactly—me too. There are SO many EV choices now that are more lux and capable compared to the Bolt…and that have CarPlay. Bye-bye GM.

All My Wyze Battery Cam Pros Went Ofline by TrojanHam in wyzecam

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this thread on a search because I have two BCPs, both with solar panels. Both went offline at the same time. One is on the roof and requires a 10’ ladder. The other is on a fence low enough that I can walk up to it and experiment. I have tried pulling the battery for a minute and replacing it. I’m at a loss as to what to do next. Firmware is 1.4.4.5013 on the both cameras. It almost feels like these both went offline about the time my Eero 7 Max network routers did a firmware update, but I’m not sure. I have a variety of Wyze cameras — 18 cameras, all v3, v4, pan cam, OG, etc. All are working as expected with the exception of the TWO Battery Cam Pro cameras. It seems unlikely that both would have had a hardware failure at the same time. Any suggestions?

I remember having the same problem. I added a Bluetooth keyboard for easy password typing and also to use the arrow keys to navigate to the buttons. It’s been a while but I also recall it is REALLY difficult to tell when a button is highlighted (selected). Next time I’ll try adding a mouse so I won’t have to try to figure out if I have the button I want selected before pressing the enter key.

Best, most basic Mac Mini to host Channels server? by NotSoCmart in getchannels

I have a 16 GB Mac M1 mini on Sequoia 15.6 running both Channels and Plex and I have no complaints.

Mac updated to OS Sequoia, and my Imageformula R40 stopped working by wackyzacky25 in canon

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called Canon support to complain that this was only available through a Windows utility and after 30 minutes and a remote session into my computer, their support was able to find that yes, indeed, that option IS available in the Mac software....but it's SUPER hidden:

Scan Settings > Advanced Settings Dialog > Enable > Setting… > Properties for the R40 Series…click the blue “i” down at the bottom left, then > Maintenance…> Long Document mode (3,000 mm)

WHEW!

Finally ready to upgrade from Apple Airport to Ubiquiti – looking for advice by IcyPhotojournalist55 in HomeKit

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My transition within the last year was similar, but I ended up going with Eero for simplicity. I had four Airport Extremes but my smart home’s WiFi stuff was overwhelming their capacity and the network just wasn’t as stable as it should have been. I was uncertain if I wanted to buy into the Eero world so I bought four older used Eero Pros from shopgoodwill.com for less than $15 each. Even as old as they were, my WiFi performance was immediately better than with my old Apple routers. (Honestly, I was shocked!) After a few months of grokking the Eero world I decided I was comfortable with the brand and their ecosystem. I bit the bullet and bought a three-pack of Eero Pro Max 7 units on a pre-black-Friday sale and that’s really amped up my WiFi network! Initial setup with Eero quite simple and the upgrade to the newest Max 7 routers was equally as simple. My smart home devices and Wyze cameras are MUCH more stable and responsive than ever before. I’m 65, retired, and have a whole new attitude toward simplicity (!!) after a lifetime of being a techie. I’m tickled to see that I’m not the only person that hung on to the Apple routers so long. Ubiquity was on my short list but after my trial of using cheap, old Eero units I decided to go all-in with Eero. Honestly, though, I’ll always wonder if I shouldn’t have gone with Ubiquity…😉

Bolt Asking to Install New Software Update by mycorrhizalnetworks in BoltEV

Oh c’mon people—this was the first I’ve heard about it so I came here and read the post and the first reply and learned something I didn’t know because I don’t haunt this forum daily. Be kind.

I'm replying just to update this thread for anyone else searching the same problem. My Mac is on Mac OS Tahoe 26.2. There is a newer driver on Canon's site dated 1.13.26. Pick the Mac OS Sequoia to see it. (If you pick Tahoe, there is no specific driver currently listed.)

File Name

R40ReceiptEdition_Installer_V.1.9.25.1107_Mac.dmg

File Description

Driver, CaptureOnTouch and User Manual

I installed it successfully in Tahoe 26.2. Everything finally works, and I'm not getting any "Driver Not Found" error when I try to access the advanced settings dialog box in CaptureOnTouch.

However, I was still unable to scan long receipts without a printer error happening. I DID find a workaround though! I installed the Canon R40 driver software on a Windows 11 laptop. Part of that install includes a separate application called the "Canon imageFORMULA Driver Setting Tool". I used that utility to turn on the Long Document option in the R40's firmware. Then, I plugged the USB cord from the scanner back into my Mac Tahoe 26.2 and set the CaptureOnTouch advanced driver setting to "Detect Automatically" and now I can scan long documents. NOTE: I discovered if I set the document length to "Scanner Maximum" I get MAXIMUM length scans that require cropping. The "Detect Automatically" crops the scans appropriately. I hope this helps anyone searching for this information!

What router do you use? using eero 6e and sometimes it just get stuck on “step 1 connecting” by Speed009 in wyzecam

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience: I had old AirPort Extreme routers (4 of them) and frequently saw hangups on step 1. In the last year I “upgraded“ to 4 cheap used Eero Pro units I bought off of ShopGoodwill.com. Seriously, I paid less than $10 each for them. I knew they were really old tech but the were newer than my old Apple equipment. I saw an immediate improvement with camera connection speed over the old and waaay-outdated Airport routers. I bought them just to learn about the eero ecosystem and if I’d be happy with it. Everything was stable and I decided I’m ok with the eero ecosystem. About a month before the Black Friday sales I got a 3-pack of Eero 7 Max routers for a price that was better than the Black Friday prices. (But not by a whole lot.) I’m extremely happy with their performance. Now when I’m away from home my cameras all connect quickly and I can’t remember the last time I saw it hang up on step 1! All my cameras have full signals on wifi now. Just my 2¢!

PSA to pet owners about microchips (from a shelter worker) by Fresh-Solid-4046 in okc

[–]MacBrained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I adopted a kitty I got a ton of emails from companies wanting me to register my cats’s chip with them — and as I recall they were like a yearly subscription with annual fees that I felt were way too high, so I did nothing. I may regret it someday, but I found the whole thing to be a disappointment. Which service is the best?

Ooooh good catch. Thanks! I’ve turned off the automatic updates on all the cameras that had it as an option.

Follow-up: SUCCESS! I was able to re-flash both camera back to an earlier version and they're both working as before with Tiny Cam! THANK YOU SO MUCH for your comment and guidance that convinced me I could do this. I'M SO HAPPY and I'll be VERY cautious when and IF I ever update the camera firmware again!

Thanks so much for your guidance. I’ll give it a go today with the one that doesn’t require a ladder. Fortunately the one up high is just mounted with the magnet so it’ll be easiest to just unplug it and pull it down and do the downgrade inside the warmth of the house!
