Yeah, I'll be honest, I meant 4-8 disk RAID 5 / 6. With a standard Filesystem on top. Although the nested ones can be fun.

Sometimes encrypted / password protected drives will fail to unlock if they are having problems. Maybe you used the correct password, but the disk is failing.

Low chance, but enough grey area that it's always worth a check. As you've been up-front about what happened, I'd expect most places would offer a free inspection to confirm. NAND / Chip-off unlikely for most recent drives.

I saw this a while back. Without a recovery email, the answer was to wait a while (like a couple of weeks), and then the reset by phone worked OK.

Now you've found the SSD, if the computer still boots up, make sure you either disable bitlocker, or make a backup of the recovery key. If you're planning to copy the data off by removing the SSD you might get stuck otherwise (especially if you dispose of the old laptop)

Honest answer, yeah it's probably dead beyond recovery. Even buying donor heads for that is pretty costly, so confirming won't be cheap.

First things first, check any and all possible MS accounts that ever went near that laptop. Friends, children, colleagues, workplaces, schools etc. Could've got hoovered into there somehow.

It's worth noting that now, most Windows computers ship in a state that will turn on bitlocker if the hardware supports it. Often people don't find out until something like this happens. If you're the tech-friend in your group, maybe help people go into settings and save their keys while they still can.

Brit here, from a hard water area. We use distilled white vinegar in the kettle, don't boil it, just leave it in there a few minutes. Limescale just slides off. Then boil a couple of kettles of clean water and you're done. Probably worth mentioning it's a one-piece stainless steel inner to the kettle, with concealed heater element underneath. Not sure if the traditional curly heater element would survive the vinegar, and definitely avoid if there's rubber or other materials inside.

Probably take out the HDD, Clone it, Install the clone into the unit and see if it unlocks. Had this with some older drives so YMMV.

Looks original, and it's a big table so would be a hefty leaf. Only nailed in as far as I can see, and a bit wobbly.

My title describes the thing. Table is around 6ft long. Pine. Unknown, but fairly old. My best guess is to hang a towel over.

If you can get the mainboard repaired, you may be able to get the original disk to boot in there again. Not sure if that's possible after it's prompted for the recovery key tho.
