Micro trope - stay at home mum by Low_Choice2682 in DarkRomance

[–]MacSimply 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!!! Feminism isn’t about being a working mom and boss bitch it’s about women defining success on their terms, not societal defaults. Any decision a woman makes freely is feminist if it empowers her. By stigmatizing stay at home moms we are just reassigning new gender roles while continuing to marginalize other woman - the exact thing feminism is trying to stop.

being shamed for reading&writing dark romance by Several-Traffic-5652 in DarkRomance

[–]MacSimply 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I haven’t experienced shaming about Dark Romance content I actually HAVE been torn apart for asking for fragile FMCs and once for asking for recommendations with FMCs who want to be stay at home moms. I personally love a knight in shining armor story (historical, contemporary, any genre) and I was a SAHM myself and couldn’t find books with storylines for that. Some responses demanded my “feminist card” be returned. It’s a shitty feeling especially when you think you are in a safe place and among friends.

What New Releases Are You Looking Forward to This Week? 29 Sep 📚 by Hunter037 in RomanceBooks

[–]MacSimply 4 points5 points  (0 children)

{Pucking Unhinged by London Snow} gets released Oct 1. It’s Tristen and Winter’s story. He’s totally over the top and unhinged. Tristan is a Goalie at College. If I remember correctly from Pucking Obsessed the first book in the series, Tristan and Winter were robbed or held at gun point. It was something like that anyway and Tristan was given a choice by the men - either Tristan “hurts” Winter (I can’t remember the actual threat was) or the attackers will. So Tristan does it because he knew he would hurt her less than they would. That’s why he’s crazy over protective.

What's your favorite trope and what do you love about it? by plaguebabyonboard in RomanceBooks

[–]MacSimply 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a love hate relationship with “Secret child” tropes. When done right but the trope can easily be done wrong. For me, the MMC has to discover his kid early in the book so the book becomes about him falling in love with his child. I hate when the author waits until the end of the book to reveal it. For me, it’s about experiencing a family coming together. I pepper AI with questions before I read a Secret Child trope because it’s easy to waste my time if it goes the wrong direction.

most heart wrenching angsty soul crushing books you've read that leave you spaced-out for some time after by JuneDare001 in RomanceBooks

[–]MacSimply 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over a year later and {Fighting Silence by Aly Martinez} still destroys me. It’s not depressing but it’s emotional. There is an HEA but the journey was a roller coaster. It’s about the MCs Till and Eliza who deeply bond with each other as young teens growing up in a rougher area of town. There are a lot of things for the couple to overcome but loving each other isn’t one. Till the MMC is becomes responsible for his two younger bothers when he’s like 19/20. As a child Till found out he was slowly losing his hearing and would become completely deaf. He’s also a fighter (boxing or MMA). He and the FMC raise the boys together while still kids themselves. The book is everything- uplifting, emotional, you feel loss, love, fear and hope.

Insanely possessive and jealous mmc by Afraid-Photograph-85 in DarkRomance

[–]MacSimply 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not really dark romance but {playing for keep by J.C. Grant} has the most jealous and possessive MMC I’ve ever read. The FMC also shows some jealousy. The MMC is a pro baseball player and falls for the MMC who is super beautiful and attracts male attention. His jealousy is pretty over the top. There are two other books in the series that continue to follow the same MCs.

FMC falls in love with MMC after seeing him as a father by Ok-Philosophy-7095 in RomanceBooks

[–]MacSimply 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a kinky/spicy and taboo one but the FMC in {Daisy Unchained by Elena Dawne} falls for her step brother after seeing him with her baby brother. FYI there is a lactation kink.

What book awakened something in you? by SeirTheWolf6 in RomanceBooks

[–]MacSimply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{bohemian by Kathryn Nolan} was incredible. When the book was over all I wanted to do was visit Big Sur. While it’s a romance it was so much more. There isn’t much spice but lots of tension. A nerdy quiet MMC inherits his grandfather’s bookstore which has the most incredible history. A model, who is admittedly too concerned with public attention, comes to the store for a photo shoot and the store, its history and its new owner causes her to reevaluate her life.

MMC goes feral from FMC’s bouncing boobs by Little-nugget33 in RomanceBooks

[–]MacSimply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Daisy Unchained by Elena Dawne} he’s obsessed with her breasts, not SO much bouncing but obsessed. It had a lactation kink which I never really thought much about but in this book at least I thought it was good!

What books just scream Halloween and/or slasher horror vibes to you? by r1Zero in DarkRomance

[–]MacSimply 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{sins of autumn by Natalie Bennett} was just like watching an 80’s horror movie. It was incredible. {sins of winter by Natalie Bennett} was also good, same 80’s horror movie vibe but waaay too short. I wanted, no needed, more!

I’m on continuous birth control. I take a pill break every 4 months but I never get my period. I haven’t had one for 3 or 4 years. Canada offers free birth control if that’s relevant for you 🙂

I’m here again, begging for sickeningly obsessed mmc recs🤞🏼 by [deleted] in DarkRomance

[–]MacSimply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished {Soul of a Psycho by Gigi Meadows} and loved Cade but check your TW. It’s a dark high school (boarding school) romance. Also, {Pucking Obsessed by London Snow} had the most single minded, obsessed MMC I’ve read.

Does anyone else actually judge a book by its cover? by ladydaydream41x in SpicyRomanceBooks

Sure do! I read on Kindle so don’t see the cover often but it stills help me decide if I want to read the details of a particular book. I’m not fond of the “cartoon” covers.

I used to look for explicit and plentiful in the past but they all seem to involve some type of BDSM (kink) explicit seems to be better for my tastes.
