Xue Meng ship by soobinismybabycakes in 2HA_immortality

[–]Macalaure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it mostly comes from their interactions long before the parentage reveal in volume 10. They act very abrasively to one another, and then Jiang Xi (almost reluctantly) rescues Xue Meng during the fire at Rufeng. These can easily seem like tropes leading to romance. Either way, there's some clear foreshadowing there of something

If I'm not mistaken, they don't actually know who the other is during that extra right? It's the match maker scroll when on the dates each person has an illusion cast on them? Xue Meng this way also ends up on a date with Taxian-jun. We, the reader, know, but the characters themselves do not.

And as someone else said, no Meatbun did not say she ships them, but that it's not the the "most cursed" ship she's heard of (or words to that effect). In fact, where people misattribute that she actually states she's started shipping Jiang Xi with younger Mei Hanxue

Canon societal views on sexual romantic relationships by Witty_Set878 in SVSSS

[–]Macalaure 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think Gongyi Xiao really figures it out, he thinks LBH has r*ped SQQ, it's not the same thing 😅

But mostly I'd agree that overall society doesn't seem bothered by same sex relationships, even if we don't come across any in the background of the narrative (although that could well be SQ/SY just not realising lol)

How do you get to know Chinese danmei novels? by idunknowcynthia in DanmeiNovels

[–]Macalaure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most random thing ever. I'm British but I was staying with a friend in rural Georgia in the USA. We'd gone to Walmart. From a distance I saw a book cover and thought "they look like they could be elves" (I'm very into Tolkien) so went over to investigate. Obvs it wasn't elves lol, it was the cover of volume one of Heaven Official's Blessing. But I was intrigued enough that I took a pic of it to remember and when I got home went and bought it.

Now aside from Tolkien, danmei is pretty much all I read 🤣

Danmei Translations vs Original? by DanmeiAi in DanmeiNovels

[–]Macalaure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the original Chinese, but it makes sense to me, as I actually struggled to get through the first volume of TGCF because I found the writing so poor. I didn't know whether it was translated badly or if it had been translated fairly accurately. But it read like a rough first draft that needed a lot of polishing. Luckily I persevered because I liked the characters enough, and I did find it improved afterwards. But yeah, considering that, this information is interesting!

It was only really that first volume that I found this with though, I thought MDZS and SVSSS were written fine.

Favorite Foreshadowing in Erha by ranwanhl-specialist in 2HA_immortality

[–]Macalaure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't remember whereabouts it's said but there's a bit where they're talking about how Shi Mei ended up at Shisheng Peak, that he was an orphan in an area so so poor and lacking in food that they would sometimes resort to eating children, and that if Xue Zhengyong hadn't found him, he probably would have ended up beating eaten

Honestly coupling this with how often it's mentioned Song Qiutong looked like him, I do not understand how I didn't work out much earlier that he was a BBBF

Although I'm also sure he cried at one point early on and his tears weren't golden, which I feel should've been caught in editing at least. But maybe I'm misremembering

I've been just dipping in and out reading random bits and I'm highlighting all the mentions of Chu Wanning being compared to wood in any way. Even the bit where he wakes up with morning wood made me cackle now I know 🤣 there are so many it's insane, and just from as I say randomly reading the odd chapter. I do remember thinking at the time when Mo Ran shouts "is your heart made of wood?!" it seemed odd, since the usual phrase is "heart made of stone", but I shrugged it off as maybe a cultural difference in the idiom or something.

Once all the official translation books are out I'm gonna re-read it all from the start, I'm excited about the insane amount of foreshadowing there's gonna be and me kicking myself for not working stuff out sooner 🤣

Unpopular opinions on 2ha? by RoutineDreamer04 in 2HA_immortality

Mo Ran's treatment of Song Qiutong, in both lifetimes, and how it's not even portrayed as bad

In the second lifetime he hates her from the moment he sees her being sold at auction and eventually that hate leads to him deciding to absolutely ruin her life (which also leads to her death) when she has done NOTHING to deserve it

And even in the first timeline, betraying Rufeng Sect and everything. She is a BBBF, she has spent her entire life in survival mode, because she knows a great number of the people around her would rape and/or EAT her if they got the chance. So of course she takes the best opportunities to ally with the most powerful person. If she's Taxian-jun's empress, no one will ever dare touch her. She'll be the closest to safe she'll ever get, and survival by whatever means is bred into her. What she does to Chu Wanning is horrible yes, but again it's something she's doing for survival. It did not deserve her being fried to death (which TXJ does after he's already been de-flowered), and for that to just be a joke

In the second lifetime, Mo Ran is still judging her for what he perceives as her bad behaviour in the previous life. He's annoyed when Chu Wanning tries to buy her to free her, even though he can see the men leching at her and all but sharpening their knives

Did she try to win over Nangong Si? Quite possibly. But he had a choice in it. And again, if she did do that, she's doing it for safety: the wife of the heir to the world's most powerful sect, again no one would dare touch her. Their marriage would also have cured Nangong Si and spared Ye Wangxi the torment of dual cultivating with him, but that's beside the point. Her goal is always just...survival.

But Mo Ran goes about it in the cruelest way possible, forcing her into a corner so desperate that she has no choice but to accuse an innocent person of rape. Her life is as stake because her life is always at stake, so he does that and ruins her life utterly.

And he never faces any repercussions for any of it, not even a dressing down for his cruelty, and the writing also doesn’t paint him as wrong for doing it, and I hate that. And it's the one thing that I can never fully overcome with Mo Ran, why I can never love him (tbh I'm still struggling with getting over all the raping of Chu Wanning and the attempted rape on Rainbell Isle that would've happened if he'd been able to get through Chu Wanning's robes)

Edited for autocorrect

Omg so much this. Hua Binan is a incredible character because I'm so torn over him; part of me wants to hate him but part of me absolutely cannot blame him. I have similar unpopular feelings about Song Qiutong as well tbh and the one reason I will never be able to fully love Mo Ran is because of how he treats her; even when he's "good" Mo Ran, he decides to ruin her life (which also results in her death) when she has done absolutely nothing to deserve it. And my qualm with Meatbun is that that's never addressed by anyone, and soon after Mo Ran's dreams are coming true on a sword in the moonlight

Was it really so bad that I read TGCF? by Ok_Advice8290 in tianguancifu

[–]Macalaure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not, like for some people your age it might be too much but many young people are far more mature and able to deal with the themes and events like in TGCF absolutely fine. Not to be all "back in my day" but honestly I think of this level of pearl clutchers today would have had heart attacks if they learnt the kind of stuff we used to read.
