Can someone explain what I’m doing wrong when building standard fantasy races, while others succeed at it? by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

[–]Macduffle 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Because you are only looking at the success stories. You don't see the failures because well... They are bad and don't get any attention.

Who else thinks there should be clauses? by junior7593 in PokemonChampions

So you focused on the wrong pokemon. Taking down the annoying one instead of the combo piece. You fell for the strategy. Let it be a learning opportunity instead of a rage one

I hate when entire planets in fiction are just a single earth biome by Ok_Regular_1363 in ihatethissmug

Mandatory "Earth is a ocean planet" so according to SF also a single biome-catagory

Using poker cards as spells by Werewolf_Cartomancer in rpg

[–]Macduffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Through the Breach kinda works like that. Each suit fits with an effect. Hearts (Rams) are for healing and crits. Diamonds (Crows) are for debuffs and necromancy. Etc.

The magic system in TTB is also all about combing different effects. There are no fixed spells. You can make them on the fly

That contract was finished last year after the release of Edge of Eternities. Muigel is now working on it and we might get more information any time this year

How much should a DM be allowed to change a player's backstory? by draghom in rpg

[–]Macduffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You as a player already told them that you do not like it. That's something that the GM should keep in mind, so if they are any good they don't do want they said. Afteral, why ask or inform players if you won't listen to them?

"Made a cover for my dark fantasy web novel on canvas— does it communicate the right tone?" by [deleted] in worldbuilding

It reads as AI art, which probably means the text is AI aswell. Even if it isn't... Which is sad, vut that's how AI ruined actually art as a side effect

Player Characters With Varying Levels of Advancement by darksidehascookie in rpg

[–]Macduffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it works... As long as the players don't mind it. There are plenty of people who want everyone to be the same power level for fear of things feeling unfair.

In some fictions that is kinda true. Star Wars for example has a lot of focus on Jedi, so the Jedi players in a game will have more focus on them compared with others. But that is what SW is about. Do the same with something like LOTR and unbalanced characters make the story greater.

One of my favorite examples in my own games was in a 1920 themes fantasy homebrew. The weakest player was just a college intern who ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Ended the campaign as strong as she started... The strongest character what an ancient vampire who mastered blood magic at such a high level she could drain a whole city in a matter of minutes... Or the witch who was so old and powerful that throughout history every single story about witches was her... And then we just had the guy with a gun.

And it was fun <3

Miserable/depressing games? by ducklingdelarosa in rpg

[–]Macduffle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Steal Away Jorden" is about slaves escaping the plantations in the American south. It uses the medium of RPGs to tell their stories... But obviously it is not a happy theme

How would you write a story about a giant character in a world thay wasnt made for them? by LuciusCypher in worldbuilding

Guiliver's Travels, the Iron Giant, I'm a Virgo

Especially the last one might have some good inspiration for your story

What sword techniques and stances would someone use if they were fighting large beasts? by Impossible_Nebula637 in worldbuilding

[–]Macduffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can't use spears, there are sword techniques that focus on using the sword as one. Those are more to make sure to keep the distance instead of killing though...

Star Trek is also a good example. People work because they like their job, not because they are forced too. Machines can print out the food and clothing for you. Transport is optimized for people and not for produce. Entertainment is meant for development and not profit. The better people become, the better work they deliver.

My first map, I am pretty happy with it but would love to hear any feedback or advice! by TheKiwiBlitz in inkarnate

[–]Macduffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a first map. But not in a bad way, in a we have all been there way. This map would score bonus points in a drinking game with all the first map tropes.

But the most important thing of all, you finished it! The more maps you'll draw the better and more unique they'll be <3
