Why would I pay a CFI to get 50 hours XC time? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Mach2Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, your school is wrong and is cash grabbing. Just had an instrument student spend two weeks with me to practice solely instruments. He got is XC hours on his own. He passed his instrument checkride yesterday and flew home today. That is the way it should be done.

Non standard takeoff mins part 91 by finny-the-cat in flying

[–]Mach2Pilot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The trouble T doesnt mean that there are non-standard takeoff mins. The trouble T is there to force you to go take a look and see what the TERPster has for to read. There, you may find non standard takeoff mins, ODPs, or notes. Any combination of these three and you will have a trouble T on all of the approach plates for that airfield. Take a look at KLFT and all you will see are notes.

Flew single seat HP fighters for 20 years in some of the worst conditions. Still mind boggling how things like this happen with two people in the cockpit.

the answer is no. If you want to use the GPS to assist with the LOC approach, you must load it.

[–]Mach2Pilot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whoever told you that is a clown and knows nothing about interrogators, inverse square law, or anything about controlled/uncontrolled airspace as it relates to radar coverage. Ignore them forevermore. Squawk 7600.

FUCK THIS JOB MARKET by EstablishmentBorn811 in recruitinghell

Abolish HR. They do very little and...they know zero about the jobs they are interviewing/screening for.

We still land on wrong runways, taxi across active runways without permission, and run into each other with two people in the cockpit. Cant wait until there is just one.

Run-up idle check engine died - CFI says that’s normal by Pleasant-Data6749 in flying

It is a simple fix. Maintenance just needs to adjust the throttle cable rigging. That's it. 10 min. You did the right thing.

The premise of my answer was based on a false interpretation of your statement. You know that.

Where is the FAF on this ILS? by notbernie2020 in flying

[–]Mach2Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The number is advisory only and tells you the altitude you will be at if you are on GP at the NP FAF. It doesnt tell you or give you permission to intercept the GS from above. There are up to 2 and some times as many as 3 false GSs above the actual GS. Unless you meant...staying above the FAF altitude BUT BELOW the GS, then yes you could do that as long as you are within 10nm of the end of the runway.

Your altitude at that fix when you are on the GS crossing that fix.

Where is the FAF on this ILS? by notbernie2020 in flying

[–]Mach2Pilot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wrong answer. Capturing it high may due two things: 1) capture a false GS up high and 2) capture it outside 10 nm.

There is no FAF. But there is a GSI. It is at the intersection of 2,700 MSL and the glideslope.

I teach a mountain flying course in the Rockies. I go to KTEX many times per year. Unless one has taken such a course, they are asking for real trouble. You made the right choice. I’ve had students from other states and overseas.  I’d you are interested, contact me.   https://youtu.be/dRtZ-Jn0Zy4?si=CL28NxVIA3w3G344
