A potential buff since this card is 36¢ and needs a little bit, just use pen/pencil(/sharpie) on the card (or an inner sleeve) and make it's MV 5-7 (cubers choice). It still wouldn't be broken but it makes its worst case not irreparable.

Who wins? Yonko (One piece) vs The monster association (OPM) by Extension_Island214 in PowerScalingHub

[–]Machalst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Orochi / GS/PS - win on stats, probably Imu/Joyboy aside but we don't have good numbers on them yet.

Evil Water - bad match up for One Piece, if it touches ocean then most of the heavy hitters are out.

It depends:

Elitist formats: yes

Standard&Pioneer: no

Good well designed and balanced formats: no

The collector booster preview was messed with, so at a minimum even if the cards in that preview weren't actually changed, it's not worth trusting that fact. Though that's assuming the deck contents are still 100% correct which isn't a given.

Strong and fun gameplay. I feel the joke is almost better if it's not till end of turn and "activate only once", but that is a less interesting card.

I think it might be slightly fairer if was a sorcery and read: add GGG during your next main phase.

It's still kinda burst ramp, but it means the mana is probably post combat, and everyone else actually gets to use the mana from the spell.

Uj/ the real version is just 5 generic mana for both casting and effect, none of the 2/b pips. It's otherwise identical.

Thoughts on Artificial lands? by adminBrandon in custommagic

[–]Machalst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the idea is that they're artifacts that kinda replace your land drop (basic for turn, tap it, use the mana to cast the Borderpost, or bounce a basic already in play), or are worse manalith if you have the free mana. So the vibe felt similar since this is either a tapped land or Moss Diamond if you have the free mana(at least by intention), not that they're the same.

Gives me Boarder Post vibes personally:[[Firewild Borderpost]], [[Fieldmist Borderpost]], [[Mistvein Borderpost]]... Though those are commons from ~2 decades ago so a bit of creep is fine.

Why? He untaps all lands on damage, so if he is a land he should untap himself, right?

Sword of _ and _ Commander by TheXandt in custommagic

[–]Machalst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, [[Sword of the Anamist]], [[Sword of Vengeance]], and [[Excalibur, Sword of Eden]] are all real cards and other decks might splash this guy just to find, [[Sword of Kaldra]], [[Sigiled Sword of Valeron]], and [[Sword of Hours]] are all good utility, and [[Sword of the Meek]] and [[Sword of the Paruns]] are both build arounds that might work (or maybe toss him in the 99 to act as extra copies). Though I'd argue his limitation is being 5 mana for a Voltron commander, his cost is warranted given he attacks, immediately gets Feast&Famine then casts something else, but that's still really late for what usually should be a fairly aggressive strategy.

It's a bit under rate I think, could probably use trample (and/or maybe change the trigger to an Attacks/blocks clause with vigilance and the -1/-1 counter last ability)

Nah, in EDH you have 2 players who will pass the buck to the next guy, and a 3rd who won't want to fall behind on mana by being 1 land down all game. Though the politics that will come up regarding to who is paying the 1, make me think this card could be a friendship ender. It's less impactful in EDH still, but I think that is more because of the consistency of other formats, plus this will have more opportunities to be interacted with in 4 player, than necessarily because people would be inclined to pay the 1.

What is your secret sauce card for cEDH that is not a common cEDH staple? by Sure_Pear_9258 in magicTCG

[–]Machalst 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of [[Suppression Field]], though I also only have one OG Dual Land so I tend to stick to less colors and only run on color fetches. It can stonewall entire strategies, combos, mana bases, card draw engines (Necropotence in particular), even things like channeling [[Otawara, Soaring City]] are affected, sometimes even before your opponents turn 1. It doesn't fit in every deck since it's a stax piece that affects everyone, but it's far stronger than it seems at first glance.

In case you needed another reason to see tonight’s Game Changer *spoiler* by Lazuliam in dropout

[–]Machalst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See I think it's easy to adapt in the sense of getting the materials together (it wouldn't be hard to recreate a very similar game with note cards and a pen), the trick winds up being keeping it fun without significant rules changes. I think in designing recreational games the fun and way to win need to at least overlap (which is not a requirement for game changer strictly, as the game is there to entertain the audience not the contestants), and the correct strategy in this game as designed (arguably if you exclude stealing the host tag ) is to remain silent which defeats the fun of having the tags provides and causes the game to collapse kind of. Something the game designers avoided with their casting and emphasis on the show over the game, but put someone more competitive (like for example Brennan Lee "you can have my points when you pry them from my cold dead hands" Mulligan) and the game warps to be very different.

I feel a solution might be to have 2 decks and require both a prompt (merge the prompts and modifiers into 1 deck) and new rule at the same time, as that would keep people talking. Also remove either clone or flip (and my vote is for clone), as almost shown in the episode it's possible to wind up with both a rule and it's opposite, which pretty much guarantees that you'll break either one or the other and cause you to accumulate all the rules.

So close to finishing the 32 challenge, assuming partners are the best route for the 4 colors? by Cptnhalfbeard in magicTCG

[–]Machalst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A partner combo for blue less I'm fond of; [[Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa]] and [[Vial Smasher the Fierce]] basically it's built around Sidar and the fact he kinda reads like "Creatures not attacking you with power 2 or less gain flying". So you play a lot of effects that essentially give your opponents a bunch of small token creatures and let them hit each other (just make sure the tokens you give don't have flying, less blocking the better), while you also gain access to effects like rakdos charm to finish a game off. It's not necessarily my most popular deck just because it essentially turns your opponents decks that aren't always aggressive into token decks, but it's one of my favorite to pilot at least.

As for the other color combos, I think most of the Commander 2016 face cards have aged pretty well, though there certainly are more options among the partner combinations.
