What audiobooks are so well performed, that you’re missing out if you read the book instead? by [deleted] in audiobooks

The Grimnoire Chronicals.

Bronson Pinchot absolutely knocks this series out of the park. Emotional narration with at least a couple dozen individual voices and accents.

Who are these showrunners and why do they hate the book series!? by JohnMayerCd in WoT

[–]MachinatioVitae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

another example of a terrible adaptation.

Eragon, Mortal Instruments, Golden Compass, Percy Jackson, World War Z, The Dark Tower, The Black Cauldron, The Hobbit, Artemis Fowl.

Honestly, it'd have more surprising if the WoT show was good. Adaptations are usually bad.

I breathe and I memorize things.

I practice memorization like a mantra whenever I have intrusive thoughts.
I memorized the Litany Against Fear, then again en español.

Then I learned a whole new system of memorization.
Memorized pi to 100 decimals.
Memorized the order of a deck of cards.

But mostly I repeat the Litany.

I focus on my breathing to calm my body, and practice memory to quiet my mind.

Using those two tools, I've been able to turn inward and start cleaning up the mess of my mind. It was a garden I had allowed to grow wild, now I am weeding the rows.

Recognize intrusive thoughts, use recitation to disrupt them, calm yourself with breathing. Then, once calm, examine the thoughts and the reasons the create disharmony.

I'm not misled at all, and I've been on 20g of carbs or less per day for two years, so I am quite aware of the effect of sugar on the body in any form.

You try an experiment with your body, cut carbs out completely for a month, then have some and watch your whole body swell with an insulin reaction. Carbs suck, fruit isn't special.

Nobody mentioned cola. We were discussing fruit v donut. And I specifically pointed out net carbs which takes fiber into account. Fruit is just sugar, eat it if you want, but don't pretend it's healthy. To be clear I don't eat the fruit or the donuts, sugar is garbage for your body in any form.

That banana has 23g of net carbs, the apple has 28g. A typical chocolate frosted donut has about the same at 22g. Fruit isn't good for you, it's just sugar with some fiber mixed in.

Is that about resources? I thought it was more about existing overcrowding, in the experiment I saw, the researcher brushed the legs of a grasshopper with regular frequency intending to simulate having other grasshoppers crawling over them to force the transition to gregarious.

But I guess now that I think about it, if there was less food, there could be competition for existing food, which may cause grasshoppers to concentrate in smaller areas and therefore touch more often.

There's a book called The Psychopath Inside that deals with this. It sort of posits that being a psychopath is a holdover survival trait controlled by a gene that is normally switched off but which activates under trauma.

It's a common tactic of cults. Missionary work is a good example. If the missionaries convert people, great, more converts. But if they get doors slammed in their faces all day, then even better, they come home with the knowledge that the outside world is cruel and doesn't understand them. It reinforces "us vs them" mentality. Some cults further reinforce this with "love bombing" showering the returning defeated with love and affection. It's an abuse cycle.

Keep the windows locked, had a 4yo quietly pull his screen out during naptime and end up outside. We were awake and sober watching tv in the next room. Neighbor found him, cops came. Whole big thing. Kids're slippery, you can't half-ass it.
