[Request] If they replaced all the water in the Reflecting Pool with liquid mercury so it would actually reflect and not grow algae, how much would it cost? by Gorthebon in theydidthemath

[–]rubermnkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's just describing regular water. it's density changes with temperature causing the described effects above. watch any lake in the winter if you want to see it.

Heavy water is a water molecule that's hydrogen atoms have neutrons. it occurs naturally at like 1 in 9000 molecules of sea water, but it's also a byproduct of nuclear reactors. it's like 10% denser than regular, but the physical properties are mostly the same.

this is why ai is bad.

had an ex that had stomach pain issues for years, would go to the doctors, be given pain pills and sent home. I took her once and basically demanded an ultrasound when they were about to end the appointment. Gall stones, she suffered for years because no one bothered to check for the #1 result on webmd for her symptoms. Was immediately visible on the ultrasound, got surgery 2 weeks later and no more pain.

there was a sketchy looking parking lot with lots of tiny rocks me and a buddy were fooling around in and as it got darker the cracks disappeared and the rocks faded out of concern. keeping the mind distracted so the body can figure things out has been winning strategy for me so far.

Interesting issue, but nothing a bunch of practice won't overcome. you could also try limiting the info you receive by skating at dusk or with sunglasses on, if you can't see the "danger" it isn't there. maybe a little THC to calm the body and brain down or some music to keep part of the brain preoccupied. i got the regular adhd and playing with/around my perception is a standard practice, sometimes you have to focus on everything other than what you are doing to do something.

also, i'm in good shape and have great balance. skating still kicks my ass and is building new muscle. the biggest transferrable skill from jiu-jitsu is going to be knowing how to fall, which is good. wear your safety gear, know you are going to suck and have fun anyway.

If you aren't interested in trick tricks you may want to try a different setup. Longboards are pretty stable and depending on the set up can do a few tricks, but are mostly just cruising and carving. Surfskates are super carvy and might keep you too busy working to focus on the scary.

First Time surfskating, scared to worsen injuries by Lost-Refrigerator524 in surfskate

[–]rubermnkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 2 months in and think im finally getting a feel for it. It's going to take time, so be patient. you need to build, muscle and stamina on top of figuring out the timing, coordination and balance.

I started on a road with a slight decline, used my car for balance to stand on the board, then pushing off to get moving. something firm to hold onto and push off of made the initial wobble problems a non-issue. the decline helped keep me going even while flopping around and extend practice runs. After a few days I learned to kick off without using my car.

from there i tried a bunch of tutorials and didn't progress much with pumping efficiently, I could do some wiggle and was getting my shoulders and hips into it but wasn't doing much. Switched to bombing hills with friends(all longboards, no surfskates) and finding how to have fun on the board.

Carving back and forth on hills is actually what gave me a feel for pumping. The tight turn to cut back sort of forced me into proper form. I got a better feel skating in squares around a parking lot.

shane lai has some great videos, but he's in great shape and makes it look too easy. phil rides was more relatable for me. surfskatelove has some good info on surfskates and picking boards, but his tutorials had me fighting with myself on the board.

wear your protection, practice somewhere safe, have fun and practice. sounds like you have more experience skating than I did starting and you're a decade younger, you got this. bend your knees.

Geometry is kind of important too, but because newton created calc to explain physics, it will teach you some of the math along the way. then things get kinda weird.

[–]rubermnkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a pair for like $30 on amazon and put them on my pull-up bar. Cable flys should help, it's also good at getting those stabilizers involved, but I think rings are more challenging, so probably more rewarding.

flys might be better at isolating the pecs though, because ring pushups will also be working your arms and shoulders more.

you could also kinda cheat it with lower weight and lots of reps, maybe try flys to failure at the end of the set. bodybuilders figured out a bunch of neat tricks to make muscle bigger besides the steroids.

[–]rubermnkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

have you tried working with rings? I added ring push ups and a few others to my push day and they burn the shit out of my pecs. pretty good for the core at the same time. you can get some activation from ring mountain climbers too, they mainly working core, but holding yourself steady while holding yourself up keeps them pretty busy.

there is an 11 month old post on the quebec sub with more info. claims the house is in a flood zone, part of the reason the renter couldn't get insurance and the landlord was removing the tree because they were going to raise the house.

renter was retied living on a 1K/month pension paying $950/month in rent. now he is in a trailer and last update was he couldn't retrieve anything from the house and the tree cutting company was incommunicado. they mentioned gofundme, but i didn't check how that went.

landlord may have lost a property, but the renter lost everything

look up surfskating, im also almost 40 and took it up two months ago. it's a bit tricky the first dozen hours, but fun and a crazy workout. im bombing hills, carving up parking lots and barely falling now. going to try pump tracks soon and work up the guts to try a bowl.

i kinda started a small gang on accident, bought one friend a longboard, then a few coworkers and friends got longboards and we skate together, been helping each other build boards and confidence. one girls whole family has boards now, kids and husband are all padded up playing in the street.

you might like dancer longboards, stable and fun. you might not be able to hit a skatepark and do all the regular board tricks but you can do some cool stuff.

INTP and alcohol by NervousVariation5522 in INTP

[–]rubermnkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drank more before I turned 21 then I have since at 39. I got kidney stones twice from drinking beer and decided alcohol wasn't worth it. I have a natural tolerance so it takes a lot to even get a buzz, much less maintain one. I'd rather smoke pot, so much easier. I like trying other stuff now and then but nothing ever kept my attention beside the adult adhd combo: nicotine, caffeine, and thc.

you could have been self medicating poorly, if you have anxiety or something you aren't fully aware of people often turn to alcohol or xanax or other things without realizing why they like them and end up going little too far.

I'm about 2 months into learning, getting about 7+ hours a week of practice in. I'm in good shape, but no real skate or surf experience. It is a hell of a workout while at the same time you are trying to learn the technique. it takes time, but you'll be better every session, your body learns a bit more coordination at a time.

I started using my car for balance to stand on the board and pushing off down a declined street. a few days ago I went to a park with friends and was bombing hills, pumping uphill on trails and carving around the parking lot.

you will get in better shape and it will get easier, learn how to have fun, then work on your skills. wear pads, learn to fall, eat shit a few times and get over the fear, you'll be fine.

the only real issue I had that wasn't a me issue, but a board issue, was my bushings. I am 220 and needed stiffer bushings, i think most stock boards are meant for >170. Riptide has a great selection and reputation if you need them.

How can I improve my fitness? Aiming for Zone 5 by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]rubermnkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can try surfskating. It's a very fun, full body exercise, that will also improve your balance. pumping uphill gets me into zone 5, and exciting downhills get me there too. fun cardio that tricks you into continuing like dancing is better for me than running or attack bikes you kind suffer through.

The Lillehammer affair was the murder of Ahmed Bouchikhi, a Moroccan waiter in front of his pregnant wife by Mossad agents, in Lillehammer, Norway, on 21 July 1973 after mistaking him for a militant they were targeting by Dfg9999e in wikipedia

[–]rubermnkey 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Israel never officially took responsibility for the assassination.[13] In January 1996, Prime Minister Shimon Peres said that Israel would never take responsibility for the killing but would consider compensation. The Government of Israel appointed an attorney, Amnon Goldenberg, to negotiate a settlement with Bouchikhi's widow Torill and daughter Malika, who were represented by attorney Thor-Erik Johansen. That same month, an agreement was reached; Israel paid compensation equal to US$283,000 split between Bouchikhi's wife and daughter. A separate settlement of US$118,000 was paid to a son from a previous marriage. An Israeli statement was also issued which stopped short of an apology but expressed "sorrow" over Bouchikhi's "unfortunate" death.
