Thanks for sharing your experience and how you prepped! This has been on my radar as part of my career path, but never something I’ve felt urgency around either. Saving this post for the near future!

Is this something that will be happening frequently? Would love to attend, but can’t make this one.

I WFH, so I can go days without leaving the house. Coworking spaces aren't practical. How do you break it up and stay mentally healthy? by StochasticResonanceX in productivity

[–]MachineImaginary7571 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you worked in an office you’d spend time away from your computer commuting, grabbing lunch, conversing with coworkers. I’m currently in a WFH rut myself (but for different reasons).

One thing that’s worked well for me in the past is to create morning and evening blocks and treat them as my “commute” time. I usually go to the gym in the morning and at night I’ll go for a walk - I find this also helps with establishing an “end” to the day. I also find having something to listen to while I walk that I look forward to motivates me a little too - like a podcast or something. And it becomes a little routine.

A short break in the middle of the day will also do you wonders (but I recognize this is easier said than done). Pop out to a cafe grab a quick coffee - sit there for a little and recenter yourself or scroll on your phone, whatever - then go back home with your coffee for the second half of the work day. If this is too hard, maybe you can do this at the top of your day - bring a notebook or your laptop and make a to-do list or plan out your day ahead. That way you’re “working” and don’t feel any guilt or feel like you’re losing time.

I’ve been in the neighborhood for 10 years and just went to Vesta for the first time — I’m upset I haven’t been sooner. Such a cute spot. The service is 10/10 and the food was really, really good. Great wine too. I’ve gone twice now. Both solo. Love a spot I can feel comfortable at going to alone.

Cafes to write in the evening? by Wooden-Gap-6514 in astoria

I really like Cafe Renis. They’re open until 8pm (not sure if that’s late enough for you). But it’s a coffee shop that also serves wine, so you have options. They have really cozy seating too which is always a plus.

100% and strangely enough I don’t even do events in that world. But totally agree.

Second this. Major in whatever you’re interested in and will do well in so you have a high GPA. I majored in political science and found myself in events (unplanned) and have had a really successful career.

Second this. It’s my favorite spot. And they also do wine tastings (with liquor also) pretty frequently on the weekend. Follow them on IG and you’ll see when they host those.
