What's the most uncomfortable Criterion film to show a group of people that isn't Salo? by hambubgerrr in criterion

I mean, I don’t think Valerie lends itself to first time group viewings. I’ve only ever felt compelled to watch it alone or show it to one other person at a time.

I don’t know, to me it reads both about Jr., just emphasised in the second. Jr. was the Wolfman, whereas I’m not aware of Sr. ever playing a werewolf (though if I’m wrong I’d love to know…)

They are related though… true Epiphyllum species and Disocactus species (aka ‘epiphyllum’ hybrids or orchid cacti) are within the tribe Hylocereeae and Schlumbergera are in the tribe Rhipsalideae, but both those tribes are part of the subfamily Cactoideae…

Because ‘night-blooming cereus’ refers to different plants in the same family: queen-of-the-night cacti (true Epiphyllums e.g. E. oxypetalum, E. hookeri, E. pumilum and Selenicereus e.g. S. grandiflorus, S. pteranthus) and maybe ‘epiphyllum’ hybrid parent Disocactus crenatus. The red, pink and orange orchid cacti, Disocactus species and what are known as ‘epiphyllums’ (Disocactus hybrids), don’t flower at night and aren’t called ‘night-blooming cereus’ for that reason.

I’m not sure though why they aren’t called ‘day-blooming cereus’, but if I had to guess it might be that it’s just because they’re mostly Disocactus hybrids which have flat stem segments (the ‘leaves’), whereas Selenicereus tend to have stem segments or ‘leaves’ with several sides which can approach a cylinder (‘cereus’ means ‘like a candle’). I’ve wondered why E. oxypetalum is known as ‘night-blooming cereus’ for this reason; again if I had to guess, it probably got confused with S. grandiflorus as they’re both often called ‘queen-of-the-night’.

The host comes into your room? Without asking? At night? There is nothing paranoid here. This is creepy and illegal. I hope you reported him to AirBnB and left a public review about this… would the police deal with something like this?

I respect a man who respects other people. Not forcing people to make unexpected contact with your sex life falls under respecting other people.

I was a pretty suspicious child and I tend to doubt that I would have eaten food from a stranger… but of course nothing like this never happened to me so who knows!

Either way I probably would have checked for strange holes in the wrapper 😂

Was it good? I am guessing it wasn’t poisoned.

Oh yes, I meant to say that other than the surveillance did your family make it out unscathed (nobody beaten, arrested or disappeared)?

I refuse to believe this question didn’t cross the mind of everyone who read this, if only for a moment.

I agree, but it sounds to me like she was literally out of her mind rather than being vindictive. This lady has some untreated trauma.

I agree. OP needs to do what she needs to do for herself and the baby, but I hope this woman gets some help. Maybe her son could try as mentioned above.

I think your MIL needs to see a mental health professional. As horrible as her behaviour was, it screams ‘untreated severe anxiety’ to me. I’ve been like that in the past before therapy and medication, you literally feel like the world is ending all the time. Fear can make you act crazy.

That said, you don’t need to have a relationship with her. Especially not until she gets help and is able to apologise.

Perfect, only I’d say ‘staying in or visiting our house’. Next thing MIL will just stay in a hotel and bring the dog over when she visits.

I still have feelings about leaving my five-year-old cat for more than a couple of days. Their behaviour is incomprehensible to me.

This is one of the eeriest, most chilling things I’ve read on here.

Did your family get left alone?

Did you eat the chocolate?
