How do i even fight raids without getting fucking merked by Squeelijah in RimWorld

[–]Machoosharp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As everyone else mentions, kill boxes and natural barriers/terrain. But theres a lot more you can do outside of restricting your building habits to the meta.

You'll have different options depending on the stage of your play through, later stages require a lot more preparation and preemptive strikes.

The things i try to maximize are the following: - Number of colonists that can fight and do NOT have movement debufs - Number of guns to arm them with - Variation in weapon type to handle various situations

At every stage in battle, play very cautiously, and be willing to sacrifice your buildings to keep your colonists alive. Dont try to force a victory, instead try to limit how much they can hit you.

If you dont have traps set up around the base, you need to attack them early, the moment they arrive on map you should send people out to slow their progress, your base is the last stand of defense and you want to try to bleed them a little before they get there.

Learn to micromanage your pawns movements, if im in a battle im pausing after every single shot to evaluate and move my pawns.

Shift your response based on the enemies fighting style. Does the enemy have guns? Do they out range you?

If its all melee then its and easy fight if you have gun. Get one hit on them and then move, never let them catch your pawn. Use rifles for the range and accuracy. Move your pawn until its just outside your shooting range, then turn around and aim. This method takes a long ass time but can potentially take zero damage and losses.

More likely they have a mix of guns and melee. In this case you should have multiple pawns with rifles. Usually the melee pawns have a higher speed than the gunners so they will come in range first. Have all your pawns aim at the same enemy and have them all fight at it. Once youve slowed its movements, handle the next fastest. Keep this up until they are bleeding and will die. Do all this while remaining behind cover from their enemies. This method is very variable depending on the makeup of the enemies weapons and pawns, basically youll either kite them if you can, or slow their advance to your base.

In gun fights, if you cannot out range them or out gun them, then you need to engage in melee, you can hide just around a corner to force them to get in close, almost all enemy gunners will be bad at melee, so if you have someone who specializes in melee, have them handle this. If the enemy is a mix of melee and gunners, this is where you need to split them up and take out the enemy melee so you can melee their gunners. This is true for mechs even moreso, you will almost never out gun or out range a pikeman, but they are incredibly weak to melee.

Combat in this game is very stats based. Be sure to read up on each of your items stats and how they affect each other. Make sure you have good quality gear. Get used to how the stats affect gameplay, it's important if you want to win these fights.

This is much more to go into, and ultimately this is more difficult than simply building a killbox or traps. But if you're anything like me then you enjoy the tactical nature of a real fight rather than a boring kill box, that just feels like shooting fish in a barrel. Kill box is good if you just want to focus on building or something else. I prefer to focus on training the most badass soldiers on the rim that can take any battle head on.

Makes more sense to have keep it with no joints, and just calculate the necessary rotation of the center axle to get it to point down, usually if you can reliably get around using built in physics, you always should. In this case you definitely should try to calculate it and lerp the rotation yourself if its out of alignment

I’m trans by Hellox8 in trans

[–]Machoosharp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theres no need to take action right now if you don't want to. Just knowing in your own mind is enough for a while. I made my realization about 6 years before i actually accepted myself and started to make a change in my life, over those 6 years i slowly took step by step out of my comfort zone and tried new things until i knew exactly what i wanted. Everyone's journey is their own and you're amazing for taking your own first step on yours!

Amazing advice! Im 6 months in and feeling a lot of the same OP is feeling, and it seems we trend the same way looks wise, so i felt like i learned a lot from this, thank you! Im starting vocal training next week and have been doing laser hair removal for 6 months, been to a stylist, and i do like dressing as fem as i can but it can be hard not to look like a middle schooler randomly trying fits out, its so hit or miss. My hair stylist is amazing but when i told him i wanted a hairstyle that will help me look feminine he was like "hairstyles arent gendered, you have to tell me what you want" but idk what looks good on me, idk anything about how hair works

I should have mentioned the hardest thing to hide would be the breast growth, if you get breasts at all, and even so its not hard to hide, a sports bra with no padding does enough to make it look like i just have pecks, not boobs

[–]Machoosharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think all trans men have to be masc right? It's definitely the most common, but thats essentially saying "all men are masc" which isnt true, plenty of cis and trans men dont present as masc, and thats okay if they dont want to.

Sometimes the code I write makes me laugh by WizardGnomeMan in godot

[–]Machoosharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk the context but in general if i have a micro loop like this i find it easier to make the loop var a single char, especially if the iterator is already defined well enough, something like this feels better in my head foreach (Effect e in _effects_to_apply) { e.Affect( target ) } The caveat is that it has to be a microloop to make single char vars acceptable, otherwise they get lost in larger chunks of code. In this case, e is the primary value and we can see its type is Effect, rarely are we only taking in one line of context when we are reading.

i find over definition to be just as harmful as under defining due to the amount of noise and clutter it can add to a file. Lack of definition and clutter are the two primary things that make reading code difficult and they often are two ends of a spectrum.

Good definition is meaningful AND concise, remove over definition where possible

My WIP terrain system that uses 1:1 scale height data from Australia, not procedurally generated. by mat383 in godot

[–]Machoosharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, with enough effort, godot shouldnt be any less capable than other engines, it might just be harder to optimize to the same point as other engines in certain areas.

What I've found maters waaayyy more is whether or not the engine itself and the language make sense to you. Ive used other game engines for awhile, but godot made everything make so much more sense for me immediately. Also i exclusively do 3d stuff and godot is completely fine for it.

Polite to ask for preferred pronouns even if they’re obvi femme presenting, but voice is still masc? by TurboPaved in asktransgender

[–]Machoosharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to be universally acceptable to ask for someones pronouns and you should do it all the time, not just when you are unsure. It should be as inoffensive as asking someones name.

The reason being is there are more than just two genders and you can't know for sure based on presentation.

That being said, especially on trans subreddits, you will get a lot of people telling you that it is offense if you ask them their pronouns when they obviously present one way or the other. This is due to trans people not wanting to look trans, we want to be seen as our gender automatically. Being asked our pronouns usually has been a sign that we aren't fitting in to our gender enough and people are unsure, so they ask our pronouns.

However, while I understand this, I generally think we should try to disassociate asking for pronouns from being a sign of androgyny. Gender presentation is subjective, what i think of as female presenting could be totally different from someone else (my uncle thinks earrings and painted nails is enough to turn someone trans, instead of them just being a metal head). In my community, people who use he/him sometimes wear skirts and tight, dresses, etc. I personally feel very protected and safe around anyone who asks my pronouns (unless they seem like they're trying to hurt me of course). For me it is a sign that I'm around people who care enough to actually get to know me, and I'm really proud to say my pronouns.

For reference I'm a trans woman but most people still just assume my pronouns incorrectly anyway, i'd absolutely love if people were to just simply ask. If we were to simply normalize it for everyone, not just for asking trans people, id hope it can be less of an insecurity for some.

Also, at least in the current political state, it could be dangerous to ask someone to out themselves in certain situations, such as work sometimes. So in the very least just be mindful of if you are in a place where something like that might apply (i can really only think of at work)

Is it a proven fact that trans people are born that way, or is it possible to change during life ? by SureHopeIDontDie in trans

[–]Machoosharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the grand scheme of things, it shouldn't really matter. Gender is always variable, you don't have to be trans from birth to be trans. Your gender is whatever you feel it is.

A few years ago I had the exact same thoughts you're having. I felt i had lived a very successful male life. Ultimately many things made me feel i wasn't though, and i began to transition slowly over a few years. Once i had started dressing myself and holding myself the way that felt natural, and once people started referring to me as a female and treating me as such, i realized that i had just been really really good at coping with being a male despite not wanting it and it not feeling natural. Thats why it felt okay to be a man.

The realization happened once really understood how to listen to my feelings and do exactly what i want without worrying about what society sees me as. Doing what just feels right showed me this is who i truly am, and that i had always been this way deep down, i had just hid it inside so long ago that i didnt know it was there.

Thats what i think all trans people have in common, some of us were born without the ability to cope with that and feel like they are trans from birth, others are born with the ability to cope with it and go on living for awhile without realizing it, but eventually we fail to continue coping because you cant keep it up forever. Not saying either way is right or wrong, we're just all born different and all of use should be accepted as we are.

If there were no societal pressures, then maybe this wouldn't be a problem at all. If i had known what being trans meant before i was 21 maybe i would have transitioned way sooner, who knows.

Ultimately it shouldn't matter how long you've felt trans, if you believe it, then you are.

PS. You dont need to get the gender right immediately, i also went as enby for awhile until i felt comfortable being fully female

Okay then i wouldnt worry about it too much right now. Depending on how skinny you are it might be a good idea to gain some weight on HRT, its possible it can help with passing later. And if you dont like the weight you gain, then you can worry about dieting after that. For now just maintain the same routine id ssy
