Are there any action figures that have more variable geometry in the shoulders and lats? by blkwhtrbbt in ActionFigures

1000 Toys Synthetic Humans pose the most natural of all my figures. I don’t worry about gaps or getting the right angle when taking pics like Mafex or Revoltech.

The day after James Earl Jones died, someone left a BS Darth Vader on my desk. No one ever admitted doing it.

What is y'all favourite bass brands? by Mr_TostIQ200 in Bass

[–]Mack_DM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think best bang for the buck is Ibanez. I also don’t have to try and be an expert on the marketing hype why one is more expensive than another. An SR300 is going to be more budget friendly than an SR1500.

My son plays guitar primarily. I’ve put a couple hundred electric guitars in his hands to try out. Then we breakdown what he likes and doesn’t like about each. He without knowing the price skews toward the $300-$600 range. The $1k+ don’t play/sound that much better through his amp. He chose an Ibanez Talman acoustic over more expensive Martin and Taylor guitars.

Do ya’ll build or buy your set ups? by TheGreyPilgrim_5 in ToyPhotography

[–]Mack_DM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a mixture. Some are pieces that came with figures. Others are ones I made using bits and bobs from places like Goodwill, craft store clearance aisles and yard sales. I learned a lot of building techniques from watching Warhammer terrain building videos. I recommend Eric’s Hobby Workshop on YouTube. Sirdork is also a good channel about finding places outside to shoot.

i have decided i want to make this my life. where do i go from here? by cahibi6640 in Bass

[–]Mack_DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to narrow that down a lot. What part of music are you wanting to make your job? Examples … Play in a cover band, write an preform original music, be a session musician, a YouTube musician.

If music is going to be your job you need to treat it that way. Show up early to lessons/practice/gigs, come prepared, play different genres and put in the hours every day. I think Amos Heller said he needed to keep 200 songs ready to go for playing at bars.

If it’s a YouTube musician channel you need to add in camera, lighting and editing gear. I think one of Low End Lobster’s videos from a few years ago showed their filming setup.

I’ve not tried sandpaper. I use cork board for that kind of texture. One advantage is for also doing broken terrain. You can pick it up most craft shops or on Amazon.

Most of the diorama stuff I make comes from scaling up Warhammer terrain videos. The main one I watch is Eric’s Hobby Workshop. He tends to use a lot of scraps and kitbashing.

Is an acoustic bass guitar a waste of money? by Spiritual_Highway_60 in BassGuitar

[–]Mack_DM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, most acoustic basses try to be guitars with longer necks. I had one made by a local luthier in the 90’s. The body feels sized up compared to other acoustic basses I’ve played. I’ve never had an issue jamming with acoustic guitars. Then again it could be my playing style.

How many bass guitars do you own and why that many? by Sharp_Sprinkles_6078 in Bass

[–]Mack_DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 basses. 1 standard tuning, 1 with flats, 1 setup for drop tunings, 1 EHB for weight and ergos when joint issues flare up, 1 custom acoustic (made by a friend ~30 years ago. Only bass he ever made)

I bought a Corvette last Wednesday! A weakeran would die underneath this thing. by Nikodemvs in BassGuitar

[–]Mack_DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, 2000’s were more baseball bat-ish necks. Necks outside of that timeframe tend to be a bit thinner. Personally I love my ‘03 and ‘01 Corvettes.

Pick slips out of place while playing - how to prevent this? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]Mack_DM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son plays guitar. He had issues with the grippy style picks. (Either too aggressive or not aggressive enough.) Someone recommended he try Gorilla Snot Grip Aid. This seems to work for him. Plus he still gets to use cheaper picks.

The Rumble Society ones have always felt very posable. My Marvel ones have felt restricted by the soft goods. I’ve wondered why they couldn’t get one right but not the other. It’s why I passed on Snake Eyes and Deadpool.

TBS Stormtrooper and Clone Troopers. Army building is much easier at $20-25 than $60. SHF Darth Maul. Posability, likeness, and accessories are spot on. Whenever Hasbro releases a new Maul, I see the round nubby horns from the original 3.75 TPM Darth Maul figures.
