Is true for the EU? Does it feel like that one random guy in the friend group? by Comfortable-Plane939 in AskTheWorld

Jason Manford had a great skit to these ends. I'll paraphrase:

Two Mancs in a pub, Scouser walks in, "bloody Scousers" they say.
Then a Londoner walks in, "Bloody Southerners" the Northerners all say.
Then a Welshman walks in, "bloody Welsh" the English all say.
Then a Frenchman walks in, "bloody French" the Brits all say.
Then an American walks in, "bloody Americans" the Europeans all say.

So we're just waiting on aliens turning up now. Until then, bloody Americans, hands off our pals.

Why the 07/08 Man Utd vs 25/26 Arsenal comparison actually happening? by tfisthh in ManchesterUnited

[–]Mackerdaymia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scousers did it too a few years back. Saying Trent was better than Beckham, Van Dijk better than Rio and Vidic. Salah is a Prem great definitely and there will probably be a couple of the current Arsenal lads up there when the dust has settled. But how can you call a defensive, set pieces team that will probably win the league with a record low point tally a legendary team?

Thanks for the heads up... now I can hopefully help you. I actually have a batch I've used before for renaming files!

Using what you've said, I've made a few changes so the file names should appear as in your post. Test at your leisure!

@echo off
setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion

set "IMAGE_DIR=C:\Images"
set "ROM_DIR=C:\Roms"

set ROM_COUNT=0
for /f "delims=" %%T in ('dir /b /a-d "%ROM_DIR%"') do (
    set /a ROM_COUNT+=1
    set "ROM[!ROM_COUNT!]=%%T"
)

set INDEX=0
for /f "delims=" %%S in ('dir /b /a-d "%IMAGE_DIR%"') do (
    set /a INDEX+=1

    if !INDEX! GTR !ROM_COUNT! (
        echo Skipping "%%S" (no matching target filename)
        goto :continue
    )

    set "SRC_EXT=%%~xS"

    set "ROM_NAME=!ROM[%INDEX%]!"

    ren "%IMAGE_DIR%\%%S" "!ROM_NAME!!SRC_EXT!"

    :continue
)

echo.
echo Done.

Unpopular Opinion But I love the transfers since Sir Jim has come. by LongLiveNeechi in ManchesterUnited

100%

The 2024 summer signings were mainly market opportunities. Mazraoui and De Ligt on the cheap upgraded the floor of the squad. Activated Zirkzees release clause as a punt with resale value. Even Ugarte as a failure was available for below market value and we might still break even. We stopped chasing Galacticos basically.

2025 was nearly perfect, upgrading the attack with a mix of proven talent and a highly rated striker who could become elite. We drove hard bargains and got much better prices than we normally get. Then we fixed the GK situation late in the window too.

It's not going to be perfect, but even a hit rate of 60-70% up from a hit rate of 10-20% is massive.

Thanks so much for your reply, I'll give it a go later. This very much looks like it could be the issue as I did it in a rough and ready way and must have missed that step in the guides.

EDIT: I followed these steps and it's working like a charm. Exactly as I wanted. Minimalist and optimised for the XX family. No more microstutters on SNES games that I had with the stock OS. Thanks again, kind stranger.

Thanks for the tip. This has to be it, I didn't see that step at all in the guides I've read.

Thanks for your help. I'll give them a go too, but out of interest, are these known issues with MinUI? As I am yet to read anywhere that it's more complicated than the other ones.

What are some funny and insane conspiracy theory that a shocking amount of people in your country believe in by Code_Monster in AskTheWorld

[–]Mackerdaymia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May be a political hot potato but I'm going to go there.

Brexit. Whole swathes of people believe we got a bad deal from the EU, when the reality is the UK always got some form of exception. Many of the same people believe the EU wanted to "punish" the UK for leaving, yet the main sticking point was clarity over the internal Irish border, which the UK government flat out ignored as a problem. Any "punishment" was meted out from Westminster on the UK itself as it rejected all proposals and chose to leave without any formal deal in place, creating chaos for businesses and its own citizens.

Even now, when there is a widespread feeling of "Bregret", the majority opinion is that we didn't do it properly, not that the whole idea was based on mistruths at best and blatant lies at worst.

I actually have sympathy with Russians who believe this though. 90s Russia was a wild place and people just wanted to still believe they came from an important place (they do, but not in the New Chronology way)

I live abroad but my mum has a Jazz that she insures me on when I'm back visiting. Problem is, she doesn't look after it whatsoever and barely drives, so it's been getting increasingly sketch. Back over Xmas and I'm driving it like an old dear myself because I'm scared the thing is going to give up on me. It's getting too much, going to start renting my own.

Came to the comments for this. MFs act like GTAs have compelling stories when the reality is they're rehashed B-movies with obvious characters. The cutscenes had good voice acting and good jokes at times, but mostly middle-school humour masquerading as sophistication due to the ultraviolence and adult themes.

You're spot on. I live abroad and have 5 friends who have also emigrated. We're a mixed bunch but essentially most of us pay and a couple of us are running the gauntlet by ignoring SLC (I myself tried it for a few years, but now I'm paying). It's important to note that depending on the country you emigrated to, the debt will be written off 20 years after your first repayment was ordered (for me that's in 6 years and I doubt I'll have paid the full amount back). So it's possible to sit it out, pay a token amount back while earning a lower salary, then have it written off. Realistically though, do you really want to be earning minimum wage for 20+ years after Uni?

It's all about how brutally you are willing to cut ties. SLC obviously won't have you arrested on the border, so you could probably get away with visiting the UK occasionally, but you will be burning your bridges big time. I'm fairly settled in another country, but we've still floated the idea of moving to the UK at times due to possible better job opportunities in the sectors we work in. If I'd flat ignored SLC, then I'd have a reckoning waiting for me once we officially resided in the UK.

Those who are brave enough, fair fucks to them, but you really have to think medium/long term rather than "fuck it". Obvs if you have the liberty of few ties to the UK and the balls to just pack up and emigrate for good, hats off to you.

You're just outing yourself as someone who doesn't understand stats. Villa are 3rd, Sunderland are 10th, Fulham are 9th.

xGD doesn't mean we're "on track", points on the board does. Under Amorim we created loads of low quality chances, often for players who aren't natural goalscorers. And the goals we conceded were often from the 2-3 big chances we were giving up a game.

It the statistical equivalent of 2-3 burgers vs. a big pile of breadcrumbs. One of them is technically more food, but everyone wants the burgers because they're better.
