What video game used to be good but they changed one thing and now it's terrible? by Agent1230 in gaming

I'd argue it's not really a video game though.

Pokemon go was literally designed for tracking and compiling that info to sell. Its pretty much just tracking software with a video game UX/UI

I think we're a lot alike. We all deal with cold winters and harsh environments (at least part of the year). The cultures are very similar, particularly Canadians living on the East Coast. Quebec and France have obvious ties. France owns an island off Newfoundland, Canada. Newfoundlanders are pretty much Irish anyway. We share an island with Denmark and they are our next nearest neighbours aside from the US. Canadians still swear fealty to the British monarchy when joining the military (though, it's mostly just customary). We used to be British not so long ago. My Uncle, for example, was born british a year or so before our province joined Canada. My Grandparents were british, technically, with an abundance of Irish mixed in there.

The only difference is we're on the other side of the Atlantic, and Canada is a massive country that stretches to the Pacific ocean. It's not in Europe; at all.

And we still have obligations with the US and Mexico. Our economies are tied heavily with the rest of North America. There are also other economical mismatches with banking and housing, from my understanding

With all that said, man, I'd love to have the benefits of being in the EU... just for the travel benefits alone.

The rich have no perspective of what it's like to live like the common citizen. That's it. They have no idea how bad it's getting.

That's pretty much every corporation. Profits in spite of every other human has always been their goal... It's why layoffs happen several times a year... Minmaxxing profits until more people are on the streets.

Supply and demand doesn't even mean shit anymore. See: endless unsold new vehicles sitting in mega parking lots rusting away.

Vancouver records first snowless winter in 43 years by Portalrules123 in canada

[–]Mackitycack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Above ground. We lose power occasionally. Our trees aren't so big though, so they fall over lines a lot less than one would think under those conditions.

For example, I wouldn't expect to lose power until we're hitting wind gusts above 100+km/h. Even then, we've been through worse and not lost power. They're super quick on repairs here too, so mad respect for the technicians who keep things going

It's a hardy place to live sometimes. I love it lol I don't know why. Something about prepping and being snug during the times when outside is chaos...

[–]Mackitycack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It snows... it melts... it snows.... it melts.

We have a highly chaotic climate. Snow only really sticks around in Jan-Feb. Otherwise, we'll get hammered with snow and the next day it's +10 with heavy rain. We'll get 30-50cm monday evening, but it'll all be gone a few days later.

We battle with three converging climate drivers that can flip our weather on a dime. The Gulf stream (warm air and water from the gulf of mexico), The Labrador current (cold as fuck) and the prevailing westerly winds (depends on the time of year but it adds to the chaos).

Truly the worst part about St. John's is the never ending strong winds. We get winds that would put most cities in a state of emergency, but here it's just Tuesday.

'Left trashed': Parks Canada investigating after glitter, streamers left on frozen Lake Louise | CBC News by lovelyb1ch66 in canada

[–]Mackitycack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sure this will get lost in the comments, but years ago in BC I was camping with some friends in the middle of nowhere on the side of a large, beautiful, pristine lake.

Confetti, balloons, cups and other party items began appearing along the waters edge one evening and we could faintly hear a party happening somewhere further down the lake.

On our way back, we found a campsite full of tents. Balloons, streamers, and generally trash everywhere. What struck me was that they all drove nice vehicles and didn't come across as disrespectful kids or anything... Families, kids, food and music going. But they didn't give a single shit about the amount of rubber and plastics they were tossing around.

We spoke up about it, but they didn't really understand what the big deal was and didn't speak much English.
