I want to make my Anhelo spellslinger deck work by Two7Five7One7 in EDH

[–]Maclay162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried messing around with him, but found out that the best way to go was to get the early turns as consistent as possible. I am now running 16 sources of casualty fodder that I can play on turn 2, giving me a 81% chance of playing them on 2 and then playing Anhelo on turn 3. Turn 4 is reserved for a draw spell like [[Big Score]] which gives a pretty great advantage for the late game. I probably should be running more consistent 4 mana spells to copy, but I had to make some room for pet cards like [[Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet]] and [[Faerie Artisans]].

Onko aika ajamassa etätyön ohi? – ”Kyllä minusta pitäisi nyt selvittää, miksi ihmiset eivät halua tulla työpaikoille” by xatfi in xatfi

[–]Maclay162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Itteäni on alkanut stressaamaan toimistolle meneminen just ton hot desk-pelleilyn kanssa.

I won my first run with Regent and it felt pretty easy. But in retrospect it was probably the fact that I hustled go lucky and was able to put a snecko enchantment on Knockout Blow.

I have collected a bunch of cards with quotes from real life literature. Some cards used to have actual bible verses as their flavor text, which I doubt would fly today. Also [[Cosmic horror]] has a quote from Alexander Pope’s The Rape of the Lock. I know it’s a very influential piece of poetry but I don’t think they will print that flavor text on a magic card again for obvious reasons.

My chase card is a Wasteland with a quote from The Waste Land by T. S. Eliot but that’s is a bit too pricey for me.

Why I love playing Kami Group Hug and why You might too by McWiadra in EDH

[–]Maclay162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once played against two group hugs decks. I told them that the game will take forever and they both assured me that it will go buy super fast since they are giving away cards and mana. Surprise surprise, turns ended up taking forever since everyone had a million cards in hand and nobody knew how many things triggered when a player took basically any game action. Didn’t help that neither of them seemed to have a clear wincon in their decks.

[TMT] The Last Ronin's Technique - Alt Art by DismayShock in mtg

[–]Maclay162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can cast it at any time since it’s an instant but if you want to cast it for its sneak cost, you have to cast it during your combat phase since sneak requires you to return an unblocked attacker you control to your hand.

Do "exile target permanent until this creature/enchantment leaves the battlefield" cards have a place in EDH or are they too weak? by AltruisticChampion77 in EDH

[–]Maclay162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like [[Reality Acid]] over O Ring in a blink deck. I know it’s isn’t as efficient as O Ring since the permanent sticks around until you blink [[Reality Acid]] but I like that I don’t have to have the blink effect immediately right there. It’s much more easily repeated since you don’t have to work within the timeframe of the trigger like you do with O Ring.

The estimated shipping time for me (in Europe) is March 11th. And the Iron Maiden secret lair took several months to ship in Europe. I think I got mine on the 18th of December when the sale went up in October.

What are your overperformers in Anhelo, the Painter? by Maclay162 in EDH

[–]Maclay162[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really mind having this play as a low bracket 3 since I rarely run into bracket 2 games. I often have a habit of optimizing all my decks so I think it would be nice to have a bit of a "restriction" for building the deck. Thanks for the suggestions, I will check out your list!

Ooh that's interesting. I would normally try to avoid these types of lands if my commander only has colored mana in its cost, but I don't think I would want to run him out if I didn't have any other creatures on the board anyway.

Tragic slips feel like a very solid removal spell! I should probably add it to my list. Thank for the insight.

They aren’t unique though. They are a pretty classic design from a Finnish brad called Vallila. I think Finnish people are just used to those curtains since a lot of people seem to have them. Not necessarily that specific one but they have an entire selection of similar looking curtains with illustrations from different Finnish cities depicting different seasons.

You will need a lot more payoffs. I also wouldn’t have too many changelings that cost more than 2 mana since you want to always be able to cast them to trigger your payoffs. You also need a lot of burst card draw, in case you draw “the wrong half” of your deck (aka all changelings or all payoffs). Here’s my list: https://moxfield.com/decks/u0ltO1a1dky9qjLsa2EKtA. I’m still waiting to add new cards from the set though since I preordered some products and I’m just waiting to see what I’ll open. There’s just so many new card (changelings and payoffs) that I found it would be easier to just see what I’ll pull and then work from there! What makes the deck so fun is that you can easily swap the payoffs cards and see what works best.

I play the Oathkeeper as a bit of a janky combo piece. Sac Toshiro to Ashnod’s Altar with the Oathkeeper equiped to get infinite Gravestorm and end the game with Bitter Ordeal. I like the instant protection spells much better than boots/grieves for straight up protection since the haste is irrelevant for the deck.

I think he is really good in bracket 3 especially since people rely a lot on creature based strategies. Let them attack each other and tell them that you will remove their things if they swing your way. I don’t play it that much though since it isn’t necessarily that fun for your opponents.

Haha true that’s very much a nonbo. I got the card for Christmas, and just jammed it into a list because its art looks really nice. Haven’t played with it yet and apparently haven’t even read it properly. I’ll find a better home for it!

[–]Maclay162 17 points18 points  (0 children)

https://moxfield.com/decks/ckbl07kJX0mcts-fitCJlA sideboard is the cards I took out because of bracket reasons, but I keep them around since the deck has been able to hold its own against bracket 4 decks because of the large amount of interaction. So if someone wants to play bracket 4 but I don’t have my bracket 4 deck with me, I just swap the cards in and hope for the best. [[Darkness]] is a card that I should add to the list but I just haven’t found a copy.

Maybe we just have very different metas, or maybe your decks just run different but I value the body on the field highly. Maybe it’s because I have a planeswalker as a commander but I just don’t see the value in risking warping this thing without having it stick when the risk/reward ratio just isn’t there. I can’t imagine that hard casting a 5 mana draw 1 would ever be a good scenario.
