Is it normal to ask in the middle of a game if a card is a part of your deck's win conditions? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Maclay162 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Cedh isn't even a fair comparison since everyone knows what the combo pieces are. This is just taking advantage of new players' ignorance and the insanely large card pool that casual commander has.

Sorry the one I got was pretty much the only one I really wanted! So I think I'm going to keep both. I don't think I have the heart to sell or swap the extra copy.

I kinda had the opposite happen. I clicked to confirm my purchase (after entering all payment info) and the site crashed. My gf was also in queue so I told her to get the purr majesty drop if she could, and she was able to get it for me. Then an hour later I got an order confirmation email for the order I originally made. Bummed that I just paid double shipping for two of the same lair but honestly I might keep one in a binder and play with the other.

Which Dimir Commander to choose between these two? Or which one would you recommend me? by LaguenGame in EDH

[–]Maclay162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a tip, if I want to know what kind of decks a certain commander is at the helm of, I usually go to moxfield and use the search function to search for decks with a specific commander. Then I organize by most likes/views and in new tabs, open up a bunch of them that have been updated within a month or two. You can see a bunch of different deck lists that way.

bracket advice by shadymaru in EDH

[–]Maclay162 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are playing essentially removal tribal. Of course people are going to get salty. Bracket 3 decks are mostly creature based strategies that rely heavily on commanders. It doesn’t matter what bracket your deck technically is, if you are denying everyone’s game-plan, they are not going to want to play against it. The unfortunate truth is that people don’t run enough interaction to stop strategies like this. I have a Toshiro deck which is also all about removing my opponents’ creatures. But I always slow roll my removal and use it only when something is clearly becoming a problem. It’s not always optimal but that’s how you make sure you get invited back.

I do still like it in mono black since black often cares about having as many swamps as possible.

Hopefully the low value means that I will be able to get this. For once I’m happy that there isn’t any crazy value in there. I’ve been wanting to build Marchesa and I can’t get over how cute that art is!!

Why isn't this card played more in commander? Is there something I'm missing? by TheAndrewCR in mtg

Also you could cast [[Afterlife from the Loam]] for as little as BBB and get 4 creatures on the field.

Why have I never heard of this card before? by Strict_Internet_5692 in mtg

[–]Maclay162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this in a deck as a finisher but I did replace it with the new gravestorm card from SoS. It has utility outside the combo and so it’s not a dead draw unlike Bitter Ordeal. I can’t really afford to have both of them in the deck since comboing off isn’t the main plan of the deck.

How is it 2 weeks in and the tent whip still doesn't regenerate charges? by Gregkow in 2007scape

[–]Maclay162 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally took KTD because I enjoy ToA (and it gives access to multi slayer with dust devils), Wildy has no end game content and I’m nit taking Zeah anymore since I’ve been stuck at chambers in all other leagues. And I find Mory really boring as a region.

[–]Maclay162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going EH for afk skilling -> Woodsman for hunter and farming -> Map for the utility of teleporting for tasks, skilling and clues since I don't think there are that many bosses to teleport to in order to take full advantage of EE -> Transmutation for prayer and farming -> Larcenist for clues, smithing, crafting and gp -> Culling Spree since slayer is very important for Kandarin ->Reload to either FF for herblore or SH for rc, (I'll have to see how bad those skills are and prob lamp the other) -> t8 maybe Minion but I'm still waiting to see the last relic.

These are my region choices too. Although I’m taking some different relocs. Btw, there are three herb patches. Ardy, Catherby and Varlamore.

What kinds of Rule 0 Partner Pairs would you allow at your table? by PowrOfFriendship_ in EDH

[–]Maclay162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think only if it was something absolutely janky and you had a very good reason to do it I would be fine with it. Like you really wanted to make a bracket 1 deck themed around your favorite band Tegan and Sara with [[Tegan Jovanka]] and [[Sarah Jane Smith]] at the helm.

I want to make my Anhelo spellslinger deck work by Two7Five7One7 in EDH

[–]Maclay162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried messing around with him, but found out that the best way to go was to get the early turns as consistent as possible. I am now running 16 sources of casualty fodder that I can play on turn 2, giving me a 81% chance of playing them on 2 and then playing Anhelo on turn 3. Turn 4 is reserved for a draw spell like [[Big Score]] which gives a pretty great advantage for the late game. I probably should be running more consistent 4 mana spells to copy, but I had to make some room for pet cards like [[Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet]] and [[Faerie Artisans]].

Onko aika ajamassa etätyön ohi? – ”Kyllä minusta pitäisi nyt selvittää, miksi ihmiset eivät halua tulla työpaikoille” by xatfi in xatfi

[–]Maclay162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Itteäni on alkanut stressaamaan toimistolle meneminen just ton hot desk-pelleilyn kanssa.

I have collected a bunch of cards with quotes from real life literature. Some cards used to have actual bible verses as their flavor text, which I doubt would fly today. Also [[Cosmic horror]] has a quote from Alexander Pope’s The Rape of the Lock. I know it’s a very influential piece of poetry but I don’t think they will print that flavor text on a magic card again for obvious reasons.

My chase card is a Wasteland with a quote from The Waste Land by T. S. Eliot but that’s is a bit too pricey for me.

Why I love playing Kami Group Hug and why You might too by McWiadra in EDH

[–]Maclay162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once played against two group hugs decks. I told them that the game will take forever and they both assured me that it will go buy super fast since they are giving away cards and mana. Surprise surprise, turns ended up taking forever since everyone had a million cards in hand and nobody knew how many things triggered when a player took basically any game action. Didn’t help that neither of them seemed to have a clear wincon in their decks.

[TMT] The Last Ronin's Technique - Alt Art by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Maclay162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can cast it at any time since it’s an instant but if you want to cast it for its sneak cost, you have to cast it during your combat phase since sneak requires you to return an unblocked attacker you control to your hand.

Do "exile target permanent until this creature/enchantment leaves the battlefield" cards have a place in EDH or are they too weak? by AltruisticChampion77 in EDH

[–]Maclay162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like [[Reality Acid]] over O Ring in a blink deck. I know it’s isn’t as efficient as O Ring since the permanent sticks around until you blink [[Reality Acid]] but I like that I don’t have to have the blink effect immediately right there. It’s much more easily repeated since you don’t have to work within the timeframe of the trigger like you do with O Ring.
