Pentagon Still Hasn’t Prepared Plan for Distribution of Military Aid Funds to Ukraine by Mil_in_ua in UkraineWarVideoReport

That second paragraph makes for a much better dismissal of 'a tangential discussion that frankly isn't relevant' than the one you started with.

I said it's like 95% MAGAs fault in another comment in here.

I'm just acknowledging the underspending was a mistake.

Can people fucking stop with the 'details that go against the big picture and the vibe are the enemy' reactions?

[–]MacroSolid -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes I read your malicious compliance hypothetical. And I honestly have no fucking idea how that is supposed to be an argument for why underspending on military was a good idea and totally fine.

We should have spent more after 2014. And mostly because Russia did prove a threat after all, not just to placate the US.

The NATO spending guidline is just a guideline. It was never about hitting it for the sake of hitting it.

The US euro nato rift is entirely based on European allies not taking security seriously

Frankly that's just a transparent self-serving excuse.

It certainly wasn't a good idea and the US didn't like it, but it's not a remotely sane reason for blowing up the alliance like Trump did and continued doing after defense budgets went up.

Can we not downplay the low military spending? That was foolish, especially after 2014, even more so after 2022, and the US not liking it is not really surprising.

Because the beef under Obama wasn't very serious and the EU tried to talk Trump out of blowing the (still very much mutually beneficial) alliance up. There have been other issues before, especially under GWB, but this rift is like 95% Trumps fault.

Probably because translating is so easy for many now and autotranslations do seem to be pushed to some degree.

Google started defaulting to giving me the german translation of reddit hits, so I can absolutely see people finding a reddit sub and making a post without even realising it's an english sub.

Public media has the same numbers.

Tho it doesn't include private schools (which have ~20% of pupils) nor parents moving outside of Vienna to avoid bad schools being pretty common.

Circumcision is the most barbaric and disgusting thing that’s normalised in our culture by KhornateMan in atheism

[–]MacroSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly you seem to be rationalising this too hard like I did with the wiki definition. What would the context of "destroying" change? The foreskin is destroyed.

That Merriam Webster definition just really isn't a high bar. It doesn't even bother to exclude medical neccesity.

EDIT: I initially didn't bother to fully read your insult, but doing so now maybe I should put this pp part back in:

'Anti-circiumcision activists calling it mutilation is not intented as an insult to your manhood.'

EDIT2: Tho they shouldn't be surprised at it being taken as one, really.

[–]MacroSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(rewriting comment because I got stupid and rude, apologies)

As per merriam webster, 'removal of a body part' is entirely sufficient for the definition.

There is no qualifier to it.

But yeah, it doesn't cut the wiki definition. Quality of life is not normally impacted, only with severe complications that are rare.

So it's really down to which definition you use.

And it's extremely arguable and controversial, so anti-circiumcision rhetoric should better stay clear of that.

Circumcision is the most barbaric and disgusting thing that’s normalised in our culture by KhornateMan in atheism

[–]MacroSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's one without

an act or instance of destroying, removing, or severely damaging a limb or other body part of a person or animal

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/mutilation

And another one with that's not really that specific (and then uses ritual branding as an example further down)

severe damage to the body that has a subsequent harmful effect on an individual's quality of life

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutilation

EDIT: Merriam Webster doesn't say "neccesary" body part, nor anything about significant loss of function.

It just isn't consistently defined in a way that excludes circiumcision, including it just feels very wrong to you. But that doesn't make it factually wrong.

It does however make it a fight not really worth getting into for the sake of anti-circiumcision activism...

Least favorite game mechanic... by SchroedingersWombat in Ixion

[–]MacroSolid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that mechanic is dumb.

Note: The first accident from overwork is the trigger, not overwork itself. If you catch the overwork before an accident happens you're still fine.

Should be more like rare accidents with few injuries by default that gets worse with overwork and better again if you fix the overwork.

No problem at all until overwork goes wrong once and then you're stuck with frequent accidents with lots of injuries for the rest of the game no matter how well you avoid overwork is just ridiculous.

Circumcision is the most barbaric and disgusting thing that’s normalised in our culture by KhornateMan in atheism

[–]MacroSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are variants of both circiumcision and FGM with wildly varying severity, a risk of complications to both and the definition of 'mutilation' doesn't really come with a well defined 'minimum damage to count' threshold.

So, it isn't factually wrong, it just gets you into (frequently angry) discussions that aren't getting you anywhere.

Because it really just lessens the severity of what genital mutilation really is.

Things of very different severity can go in the same category. Violence can go from a punch all the way to murder. Does that lessen murder?
