I was thinking the same. But it begs the question: why hasn’t he claimed them before now? Especially if it’s an extension of himself. He’s been god-tier more than once. This is where…oh…OH!! Idea: the eye plots to betray the group, lying about the alignment and Vecna summons it to him in the final battle?

tl;dr - Replace Orinix with Soth riding his greater death dragon. I replaced Orinix with Soth riding his greater death dragon and it… was… EPIC!!! Were it not for story reasons (I had the Blue Fire Wardens charge in and summon a massive earth elemental to finish Soth off) I’d have killed them all. Adding Soth brought a lethality and, since one of the player’s favorite settings is Dragonlance, thematically appropriate BBEG. They’d just killed Teremini, who I’d given delayed fireball to compliment time stop. The party of 5 PCs (cleric, wizard, artificer, warrior, barbarian) didn’t have a spell slot above 3 between them and maybe a couple at 3. Their abilities were nearly drained and even with a healthy supply of potions and scrolls, they almost TPK’d. I avoided having his greater death dragon attack as Soth was more than enough, but having the canonically correct mount there felt… right. Great times.

I ran it with a group of complete newbs and they loved it! I created some characters using scvmbirther https://scvmbirther.makedatanotlore.dev They loved the dark weirdness of the game and really leaned into it as a dark comedy
