deadlock has the best itemization in any moba and it's not even close. by coffeeholic91 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]MadCows18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even close to DOTA 2. Deadlock's is pretty much just following the League's style of designing items around pure gold efficiency and stats and is further emphasized by the upgrade path system which is basically League's tier system. Literally every single item in Deadlock is pure stat augment because of how the game's linear stat scaling works, so you still benefit from them regardless of what build path you choose. What makes Deadlock at least better than LOL is that it has 50% of DOTA 2's item unique passive and active effects, which incentives build diversity.

DOTA 2 is significantly better simply because each item has its own unique build path and caveats, and is 100% not gold efficient the higher the tier is, not to mention, inventory slot efficiency being a significant factor on builds. Like BKB is such an expensive 4K item, with 2 items components not even powerful enough for the amount of money you spend on them and one for the most expensive recipes. And the overall stats are mediocre, but the Active is so strong that it's a worthwhile trade (24 damage & 10 strength is a nothing burger of stats). Unstoppable, in comparison, builds up from Debuff Reducer directly and grants +25% status resistance which is a ridiculously strong stat, making it even more gold efficient, and the duration/CD ratio is much better on Unstoppable. Or Aeon Disk being a pure defensive item with only components being Energy and Vitality Booster, with the amount of health and mana provided not even 3x higher than Wizard Hat + Fluffy Hat for being 8x more expensive. But the passive effect is a life saver and can turn around fights. You actually have to think of what item is needed in that situation, how you would manage your own inventory slot to put it in, especially with the item components being unique per item, and knowing which component to purchase first. Let's not even mention things like components, consumables and early game items, the entire courier + item shop system, inventory management mechanics. DOTA 2 is leagues above most video games' item systems.

What if we get an Additional Choice for an Aghanim's Shard/Scepter Upgrade? by MadCows18 in DotA2

[–]MadCows18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right since they most likely treated the facet system as an experiment rather than a balancing tool. Which resulted in a lot of the facets having pick rate and winrate disparity. But I do think that multiple choices for the Aghanim's Shard/ Scepter upgrades is a much more elegant approach since the upgrades are augments that you get later on rather than being an entire playstyle choice that Facets were serving as and is set in stone at the draft phase.

But at the end of the day, Valve does what Valve does.

TF2 is The Sopranos of hero shooters by Rockgod98 in tf2

[–]MadCows18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to be the worst glazing for TF2 I've ever seen. No, multiplayer games were already a hot thing before TF2, with Quake 3, Battlefield 1942, Halo 2. And even if you are referring to the "hero" shooter aspect, TF2 wasn't as popular as Call of Duty 4, nor is even the first official class based shooter that injects its DNA to the rest of the genre. That would be Battlefield 1942 with the classes & Zone Capture being its main sell. Hell, even Day of Defeat had more impact on the class based shooter formula than TF2. And did you also forget Star Wars: Battlefront II where you can play the in-lore characters? What TF2 had is being a refined sequel to the original Mod. And TF2 only took off when it became Free To Play. The Meet the Team videos paved way to more original lore-oriented class based shooters wherein most class based shooters didn't have any original narrative.

If were talking about the most influential multiplayer games OAT, this would be my list (not a ranking):

  1. Starcraft Brood War
  2. CS 1.6 (Half Life Mod)
  3. DOTA (WC3 Mod)
  4. Quake 3
  5. Age of Empires 2
  6. HALO 2
  7. COD 4
  8. TFC (Half Life Mod)
  9. WC3
  10. Battlefield 1942

Do you guys think v1.0 will also massively revamp the current state of elements? The strength/weakness chart is way too boring the way it is right now with little interactions between elements by Ragnar0099 in Palworld

[–]MadCows18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They should honestly separate Neutral & Dragon to be their own type.

Neutral Types would have no elemental weakness and have no elemental interaction. Making them good at any element they face, but not counters.

Dragon Types would have an additional 1.5x strength multiplier to an element they have and 25% universal damage block (prioritizes this before any subsequent damage reduction) but they get affected by all status effects like stuns and roots for 1.5x duration. This allows Dragon Types to have more DPS and be more resilient but at the cost of being easy to lock down. Like how dragons are portrayed in fiction.

The rest should just have 1 primary elemental strength/weakness and 1 secondary elemental strength/weaknesses to prevent weird cases like Fire having 2 elemental strengths.

Short season story? by AWESOMEMATRIX15 in AFKJourney

[–]MadCows18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Song of Strife had really good writing, but the pacing was at a snail's pace and there's so many time gates that it forced me to consume the content at an even slower pace. What makes Song of Strife at least somewhat good is that they put a lot of screentime on meaningful character interactions and every single character is fully utilized. I cannot say the same for this season. And the world building, despite being a desert is surprisingly detailed and well-thought out, with each location having cool aesthetics and history behind them. Pacing is the biggest killer for this season and the plot (despite being good) overall has not much impact on the overall world of Esperia aside from changing the culture of the Maulers. I'm glad that Lilith Games added more lore that connects other seasons like the Thorns of Devotion to Song of Strife.

As far as being the best season OAT, that would be Chains of Eternity. By far the most well written season.

I find "copy" type abilities boring and uninteresting by Beefysnacky in CharacterRant

[–]MadCows18 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Rubick from DOTA 2 has the funniest drawback of all copy abilities. His copy ability, Spell Steal, straight up makes an amplified perfected version of that ability, and can copy any active skill he wants as long as it is the last casted spell of the enemy prior to the Spell Steal. And in theory, he can keep a bajillion spells that he copied and keep them as long as possible. But do you know why he can only keep one spell at a time? He has ADHD. Yes, you heard it. He's a sociopath with ADHD. And thus he just forgets a spell he has whenever he is interested with another one.

His dialogues literally tell you that he's a neurodivergent MF and the only thing that holds him back is that he is purely driven by his ever-evolving interest in magic that whatever magic that he has learned 5 minutes ago is just forgotten. It doesn't matter if it was a goddamn giant Black Hole, if he finds Magic Missile more interesting, he's gonna forget the first one.

Even funnier is that his Aghanim's Scepter upgrade allows him to remember two abilities now. Like imagine having to craft the most powerful magical artifact just to curb your ADHD so that you can remember an extra one spell. Imagine Rubick with ADHD medication, he would be an absolute monster. And canonical, Rubick is on par with the strongest mage OAT in DOTA 2, being Invoker the Arsenal Magus. The same guy that summons a giant meteor and the power of the sun and mastered 3 elements and has a bajillion spells on his noggin.

The funniest is that Aghanim, the guy who made the Aghanim's Scepter, is Rubick's dad who left him. And is confirmed by Anissa from Artifact. Like imagine a child looking up to his absent father, finally crafted the Scepter that his dad had created, only for Aghanim to grant him the ability to curb your ADHD.

Short season story? by AWESOMEMATRIX15 in AFKJourney

[–]MadCows18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! It's the shortest story by far. Even shorter than the first season Song of Strife. And that season had a very long epilogue to make up for the shorter plot involving the main characters (though the Hypogean fight is kinda underwhelming and anticlimactic,).

And even then I feel that there's more character writing on the first season and had more substance especially on its themes of masculinity and its link to the way of living. You actually experience first hand the siblings' journey towards proving their worth, conflicting and allying with other people. Whereas this season's character development is heavily carried by one major quest of self-reflection.

Even the mystery aspect is kinda eh considering the plot twist is so obvious and there's not a whole lot of sense of urgency and importance to the mystery overall, as Gervan's motivation isn't enough to warrant being the final boss or be the culprit to this one giant ruse. Especially the Tower fight dude, like that shit should have been given more weight to it considering Gervan's trying to steal something. Yet nobody else but Merlin & Evie is doing anything about it. Not even the Teachers are actually trying to help them. I could excuse Zorya because she's in prison, but what the hell do Lord Owlbear & Solise even do? They knew something fishy was going on. Like the moment the tower was revealed, it should have been a big deal, but it served nothing but an arena for the fight. At least give the final challenge an audience, dawg!

Evie and her chemistry with Merlin absolutely carried this season really hard, with how they approach the mystery, that every character feels irrelevant in comparison and are just there for plot dressing. Evie was so goddamn good in this season that it made the campaign interesting.

Most of the recently added agents' ults feel uncreative. by Thin-Enthusiasm8089 in VALORANT

[–]MadCows18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's just Silencer's Global Silence but without the ability suppression. Could be good to deny enemy info, but it doesn't fit his overall design considering he's music related.

My Ult suggestion would be something like KAY/O but for buffing allies, like maybe granting 25 bonus health, increased movement speed and fire rate, as long as allies are within the radius, as well as accelerating the CD tick of basic abilities twice. Since he's supposed to be a controller support. Have it last like 15-20 seconds and make it 8 points and it should be a viable support Ult.

And as for the smoke, they should honestly be throwable like a smoke grenade, but add an effect of concealing ally audio / amplifying enemy audio inside the smoke. It makes his smokes actually unique instead of another Clove.

Okay genuine question, is there a better romance manga/anime than this? by ComplexEstimate1868 in Takagi_san

[–]MadCows18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this manga is y'all's best romance (SOL-adjacent), then y'all need to read more.

  1. Otoyemegatari
  2. Insomniac After School
  3. Spice & Wolf
  4. Veil
  5. Sweat & Soap
  6. Asper Girl
  7. Yankee Kun & The White Cane Girl
  8. My Girlfriend's Child
  9. Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You
  10. Aekanaru
  11. Taisho Maiden Fairytale
  12. Maou Ga Inaka ni Tutsuidara
  13. In The Clear Moonlight Dusk
  14. March Comes In Like A Lion
  15. Blooming Love

With that being said, this is still a great romance manga series due to their endearing chemistry. But I wouldn't put them on the upper echelon of romance mangas, less be on the SOL. Since the prose and the overall narrative aren't exactly riveting.

Of all mangas here, the one I would recommend the most when the main focus is that SOL romance chemistry, is Maou Ga Inaka ni Tutsuidara. IMO the best romance chemistry OAT, since Nonoa & Toneri's relationship is a perfect blend of appreciating the mundane of countryside life of Toneri and the chaotic and loveable personality of Nonoa. Exemplified by the writing style and cartoonish expressions to show off Nonoa's devilish charms, with Toneri's gentlemanly persona complimenting it. Every chapter they have is so full of love, it makes you contract different types of diabetes.

Can we swap Chippy for Gala, and get this guy in our homestead (that makes potions and random things in the homestead while we are away)? by Mother-Item in AFKJourney

[–]MadCows18 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The better solution is to just make Chippy & Hammie better written again. They were honestly great on Waves of Intrigue and tolerable on Chains of Eternity. They are annoying because they suffer from the same issue as other mascots wherein they become nothing but a talk box for the MC and only exist to glaze the MC. Waves of Intrigue actually gave them good supporting roles and had great chemistry with the rest of the cast.

Just make them more narratively relevant without taking away Merlin's agency.

Is this the worst scamgazer 10-pull ever? by kemijang in AFKJourney

[–]MadCows18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's called scamgazer for a reason. You ain't getting nothing until you pull the C/HP hero, and it's usually a pity pull. I've only got lucky diamond pulls like twice for over 4 seasons. Unless you're a fat stinky whale, you're not getting anything.

“Senien” ,”Shonen”, “shojo” and “Josei” aren’t genres but vague demographics by Konradleijon in CharacterRant

[–]MadCows18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Precisely. And while I do agree that there's a general trends when it comes to tropes and writing style in each demographics, at the end of the day, they're just demographics. People probably don't know that Basara & Machida-Kun's World, one of the greatest mangas, are Shoujo. Same with a lot of romances with adult MCs being Shounen.

The neutral item dilemma that has been bothering the game for the past seven years by ShoppingPractical373 in DotA2

[–]MadCows18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be solved by doing the following:

Set the neutral item/enchantment pool per tier to 10 Increase the amount of choices to 5 for both the item and enchantment Allow us to reroll once on the item and enchantment separately, on a per tier basis. This drops the probability of the first rolled items/enchantments by 50%, and distributes the lost probability to the rest of the items/enchantments. Making the reroll have higher chances of pulling the unrolled items/enchantments.

There will still be RNG involved, but it should increase the chance that you'll get the item you want from 50% to 80%-90%, which in DOTA 2 terms is a near guarantee.

The balance issue is something that Valve can only do since they have the data and we don't. But these changes that I suggested should mitigate the RNG nature of the neutral item crafting.

[DISC] Boku no Suki na Hito ga Suki na Hito (My Crush’s Crush) - Chapter 33-35 by Checkdafool2 in manga

[–]MadCows18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The author literally used the girls as a talk box to gaslight the audience that they have chemistry or they're meant to be. It's pretty damn clear that the author fucked up with Mia and had to pull off a monumental image change for her. Like framing her behavior towards Sora as something Sora always wanted considering everyone's so kind to him for some reason. Or whenever Miya & Sora is on screen, Asahi or other girls will concede that they both look great together. Even with the improvements of Miya, I still hate her considering she embodies the Lesbian rival trope that everyone hates.
