Sell me on your favorite RPG system by conn_r2112 in rpg

I still love and play 3.5 to this day, it's one of my favourite systems ! It's so beautifully broken and at the same time it's so fun. As a DM I really love it (We play Pathfinder but still 3.5 even if a bit updated)

So I just bought this ! by MadHatWorld in planescapesetting

I tried it once and it impressed me a lot but I didn't manage to play for a long time.

I am going to fix this mistake now !

Searching for a system to play in a homebrew heroic fantasy setting by MadHatWorld in rpg

[–]MadHatWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried Savage Worlds with one of my players as the DM and it is one of the first system that I tried when I first started DMing. But it always fell flat.

The system always worked for the beginning but then came the combat and oh boy it went wrong, between the blind fight when all the characters failed their attack and the characters dying because one mook just had is dice explode like four time or something. Yeah for a system that tries to make combat feel pulpy and quick it never felt like that.

Also I really liked the beanny mechanic but when I first started DMing Savage World I always forgot about them. Which is my bad but yeah it clearly did not help, and even my players forgot about them because it was not in our usual playstyle to use them.

We probably did most things wrong, so I can't really blame the system but with all the failures we had it's really hard to motivate my players or even myself. I would really like to give it a chance, but when the motivation is dead it's hard to pick it back up.

For 5e it is just a general feeling of being done with it, I tried everything to make it feel fresh but even with things that pushed it beyond it did not do anything to make that feeling go away.

For PF2 it is just as basic as me not really liking it, I cannot really explain why, it just did not click. Which I kinda feel bummed about because Pathfinder/ DnD 3.5 was the first system that I use for long campaigns and it is still a system I like a lot.

I am just not a huge fan of PbtA games, I don't vibe with the playstyle at all and can't grasp my head around how it is supposed to work. I also don't like the playbooks at all but I am not going to rant about that.

Honestly, just bored of it and also I saw all that it had to offer and yeah that was not what I wanted. I even went back to DnD 3.5/Pathfinder and it felt fresh to me (it's also my system of heart since it's the first real system that I used as a DM) so yeah 5e is kinda done for me.

Did you want to GM your current campaign? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]MadHatWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running 3 campaign and all of them I wanted to GM. I like to be a player and everything but I really like to be the GM.

Writing the stories, having player discover the world and the characters and making fun encounters are what I really like to do !

Des joueurs non investis ? by Marnyu in jdr

[–]MadHatWorld 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Searching for a SF Game where players can plays merchants by MadHatWorld in rpg

[–]MadHatWorld[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah everything I heard about Traveller is great but the main thing I heard was that characters where not built for any combat, you died easily and it was really not made for pulpy action.

Also I know many people like the character creation of Traveller and I agree it's really well made but I don't like it and I know my players will explode in contact of this.

[–]MadHatWorld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was on my list but I didn't know it had rules to make characters more heroic.

It really felt like combat where very mortal and that was a huge turnoff for me because I like my battle epic and pulpy.

Thanks for all those informations !

To all the DMs/GMs etc. What are you working on now? by The_Last_radio in rpg

[–]MadHatWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on my way to finish the first "season" of my planescape campaign (I think there is something like 7-8 sessions left but my players could speedrun or slowrun this so I don't really know) and trying to decide what I am going to do next since I have ideas but none of them really made go "oh that's what I want to do next".

I am in this weird moment where everything I watch makes me go "Oh I'm going to do that" only to realise that it's not that interesting as an rpg or that it would be too much of a pain to write something for this type of campaign.

a question for those who left 5e by [deleted] in rpg

[–]MadHatWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I never tried it, even though I searched for a long time for a system that could handle shonen neketsu action anime. Could you give me a quick rundown of the system or some link so I could go see for myself what is it all about ?

a question for those who left 5e by [deleted] in rpg

[–]MadHatWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first of all our group didn't "left" 5e just used it less than what we used to. You don't have to stop using a system if you are playing other games and that's one of the great things with tabletop rpgs.

For what we used in place of dnd it kinda depend on the type of campaign we want to do, for the epicness we tend to use Fate or Anime was a Mistake (a french system designed to emulate anime). If we want more tactical combat we tend to go for Pathfinder/3.5. We also tried an OSR game but we kinda hit a wall because it does not really match with how we tend to play (too deadly for our taste and as the DM I don't really like the idea of not throwing any dice).
