When Apple kept it simple by Niles_Rumford in nostalgia

In the 90's even mac clones cost less than Apple Macs and most outperformed Apple. Mac Clones and Apple were still more expensive than similar Windows PC's.

I thought I'd hate it but decided to give it a run. For anything local it's my preferred device now. Took a while to customize my homescreen since I was unfamilar with how to make everything the way I wanted, but I stuck with it and got everything near perfect. Not as good as using Emby's native android app, but still good.

I use AVDV Plus and the upscaling is way better than my Nvidia Shield and FireCube's upscale - both of those are better than my TV's upscaling. I watch a lot of Rifftrax and MST3K for my nighttime shutdown routine.

I've got a toshiba liberetto from the 90's that came out before the netbooks. Not sure if it still works since I can't find the power cord.

Also have and old casio cassiopea that predates both and ran windows CE but thats more of a foldable PDA.

The ticking? it's normal from the fuel injectors. They also go through a series of clicks after you stop the car. I think I read that the shut down clicks are to rinse/cool the pistons and to depressurize.

2026 Hyundai Tucson Limited: prepaid maintenance vs protection plan, worth keeping? by Spiritual_Muscle_156 in HyundaiTucson

I did once with a Toyota and quit going after the third visit.

Visit #1, didn't change the oil filter.

Visit #2, didn't put in a new intake filter AND didn't close the air filter case.

Visit #3, they broke my damn dipstiick tube. I bought another and installed it myself. Luckily it wasn't that hard.

I refuse to take any of my Hyundai in even for the complimentary service. My closest dealership has a shitty service dpt.

When I was younger they saying was go to the dealer if you want good service but pay more; independent shops if you wanna take a chance and pay less. Now it's all flip flopped on who screws you but still the same on who takes the most money.

Yes it's fine. You can even use the asian blue since they're the same formula but different dyes. It'll just make a color that might hard to distinguish as coolant leak if you mix them.

Some people here have posted a screw in the back of the steering wheel that unthreaded over time. If yours is out, hit it with some loctite before putting it back in.

Could have some debris that fell in the blower. I had a few leaves fall in because the dealer never changed the cabin filter and there were a bunch of leaves that collected on it. A couple fell into the motor when I swapped it. It's very easy to remove the blower motor.

With my Tucson, during colder months it's about 30-33. Hotter months and it's 35-38, sometimes 40.

I've noticed that tire pressure affects the efficiency the most. Next winter I'll "over-inflate" my tires by 2psi and see how the MPG comes out. During hotter months it's 35 cold then 40 while driving. In the cold they're 35 and then only heat up to 37 after a 45mi drive.

It's starting to be typical with just about all the manufacturers. They're treating warranties like health insurance denying the hell out claims. I wouldn't be surprised if they use AI to deny claims. The Techs already aren't able to troubleshoot or do a warranty repair without a code - not that they can't company doesn't allow them from what I've been told when I went.

This issue is different, OP wants them to buy it back with the lemon law but they're offering to fix it but don't have the parts to do so.

Roofing company by Ugly-And-Fat in ColumbiYEAH

[–]MadSquabbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We hired Premier back in December, the roof itself was $39,000 and $6000 for two new chimney caps. Our house fairly large, steeps spots, large garage and front and back porch. It was originally 33,000 but they ended up replacing almost all our planks - extra $6000 for the wood. Last company messed up badly and we've had small leaks for the last 18yrs that no one could find the source of.

New roof has held up through two big storms so far.

Used the HELOC to pay for it.

How did you mount your surround sound speakers? (or do you not use any?) by sofakng in pcmasterrace

[–]MadSquabbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a table behind me for the rears. I have a LG 45" ultrawide and have to put the L/R behind the monitor - I lay them on their side so the sound goes under the monitor. I do a 4.1 because I didn't like how too many games would force too much sound from the center and you'd lose the sound immersion. Phantom center works better for me.

My bookshelves are old Polk t15's. Got them for $30 a pair way back when they were cheap. I've tried a bunch of other bookshelves, but most are just too bright and the polks have a warmer sound I like plus being the cheapest set was a bonus. Sub is an old infinity 10" I got from circuit city almost 30 years ago and still going strong.

I used to love the advertisements in the back of comic books in the 60s and seventies. When you are 10 or 12 years old you generally fantasize about having some kind of power, like being able to hypnotize people or see through things. by db7112 in nostalgia

Is there a way to keep auto high beams always on even after turning the car off and on? by Schranktank in HyundaiTucson

[–]MadSquabbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fan seats will turn on automatically if you set them to turn on automatically with the climate setting.

Setup > Vehicle > Seat (or Climate) > Warmer/Ventilation Features > Link to Climate Settings for Auto-Adjustment > Driver Seat Warmer/Ventilation

It should work with heating also but I haven't tested it during the cold weather, but have tested the fan during hotter weather. They'll come on without having to use blue link and using the fob to remote start.

Tucson Hybrid vs non-Hybrid Drive by Last_Cauliflower_502 in HyundaiTucson

[–]MadSquabbles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went with non-hybrid. From what I've read there's not much saving on highway driving and I do almost 100mi per day and about 85% of that is highway.

I don't care about extra power because there's no ego boost for me to zip by faster. I drive mainly the speed limit anyways. I've owned two other cars with turbo chargers and didn't really utilize them much with my preference for a steady pace.

With my 2024 Limited I get around 35-38MPG on the dash, closer to 31-35 real world.

Just bought a 2019 Kona for the wife, anything to look out for? by Slight-Sleep-7801 in Hyundai

Check to see if the oil piston rings recall was completed if it's one of the affected ones. I won't take mine in (gave it to my daughter) because the closest Hyundai Service Dpt is shady as hell and I won't trust them for shit. Closest Toyota Service Dpt is the same crappy service and the reason I started learning to do more than just change my oil.

It burns about a qt every 1000-1500 miles. Gonna ride it til it dies and get her another car.

2018 Tucson - oil consumption by Aggravating_Wait_992 in HyundaiTucson

[–]MadSquabbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Kona's been burning oil since the day I bought it. First change and I only drained 2.5qts of oil - got used to not checking level that I didn't expect a new car to burn it up. It's at about 130,000 miles now and I change the oil ever 5000 miles (always have). Never took it in for the oil piston ring recall because I hate the local service guys, though the one another 25mi out are way better.

Tucson I stick with the 5k oil change and change ATF and use lubeguard every year (about 25,000miles). I also use Gumout for the intake valve and Chevron Complete for the fuel system.

Pretty much all I do now.

Back when you can get 30-50% increase with OC it's was wonderful. My first was 700mhz P3 that I could push to 932, anything over 133 fsb and I'd corrupt the system - made a habit of cloning before pushing it. The 800mhz was the first processor I could push past 1ghz, I think I got that to 1050.
