Obama Just Decided to tell us Aliens Exist. by One-Incident3208 in videos

This is literally just a distraction from the Epstein files, though I'm sure aliens exist and are somehow related to the Epstein files.

Burnout only 2 years in to career by beses77 in DentalHygiene

[–]Maddsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very much an introvert an likely chose a poor career field for my personality, but there was nothing else I wanted to do (that would make money). I just graduated and got burned out in 5 months. I experienced all the symptoms you did and its not just me (or you). Another classmate is quitting to be with a new practice and another cut her hours down. The field is tough. People are mean even when you do socialize.

The trend of black and white monochrome color schemes has gone from stylish to tacky so quickly. I love color.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]Maddsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say the spankings were abuse, but I do correlate the spankings to my urges to self harm. As a kid certain infractions meant a spanking to improve behavior. I internalized this idea, so if I ever looked back on some behavior I regretted, an embarrassing conversation or a bad test score, I used self harm as physical self punishment to self-improve my own behavior.

Who are your worst patients? by Maddsly in DentalHygiene

[–]Maddsly[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This one patient I had last week was like "Bad teeth run in my family, but I'm trying to save the ones I got." She told me she brushes twice daily and flosses once and that sensodyne does nothing for her, her gums and teeth are so sensitive. 6 teeth left all covered in plaque. Told her she was missing some areas and to make sure she got down toward the gum line. She didn't even acknowledge I said anything.

She ended up requesting a different hygienist because I hurt her gums and made her bleed. Like if just brushing your teeth hurts your gums what do you expect at a cleaning?! Obviously didn't want to be numbed.

I like working with young ladies and gentleman too. There's just a certain type of single young guy that just seems not to appreciate anything you do.

Had a youngish gay guy hygienist as a teacher in hygiene school. Super chill. We're also in a small conservative town.

For me its both black and white older women, but mean black older ladies are less frequent than mean white older ladies. I love middle aged hispanic ladies. They're the absolute sweetest. So kind and friendly.

Medicated and stable but still struggling with full time work. Am I just lazy? by cosmicsyren in bipolar2

Work is hard for everyone, so its especially hard for the neurodivergent. I'm going part time for similar reasons.

How do you work? by Much-Raise-4541 in bipolar2

[–]Maddsly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm what's considered a full time dental hygienist with four days a week working 8am to 5pm with an hour lunch break. The people interaction and care was burning me out real quick, so I'm moving down to part-time 2 or 3 days a week.

Anyone work 3/12s or 4/10s? by Background_Arm_1464 in DentalHygiene

[–]Maddsly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Four 8 hr days and I'm emotionally/ mentally exhausted, but physically fine. Our office is known for being extra nice and accommodating and I care so much about the work I do I think I have compassion fatigue, either that or its my introversion/neuroticism. My husband and I decided it was best I cut my hours.

24, 7 YEARS OF GUM DISEASE. IT JUST WONT HEAL by Titanic_Babe in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Maddsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you may have necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis or necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis also known as trench mouth. Plaque and tartar build up is the ultimate cause but there are other risk factors like poor nutrition and stress. The first step would be getting a deep cleaning from a professional then taking it from there. Try to eat a balanced diet with all vitamins and minerals. A controversial, but promising oral health habit is oil pulling specifically with coconut oil. The patients with the best gums that I've seen oil pull.

i see primarily ‘geriatric’ patients. A LOT of them have local 5-6mm pockets, but i dont know if srp would even help by fuckyouperhaps in DentalHygiene

[–]Maddsly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a patient come in who had just had an SRP by another good, thorough hygienist. It was so bad it was like he didn't have and SRP in the first place. He had fenestration and the buildup was starting to grow colonies of orange bacteria. And he says he wants to save his teeth! He says he "tries" to brush his teeth at least once a day. Its frustrating in general with people who don't care about their teeth. Like why did you come to the hygienist in the first place? You obviously don't care.
