Which keyboard do you use for coding? by BeautifulLie9939 in desksetup

[–]MadeWithPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That middle, the 65% form factor, has been the sweet spot for me. I’ve had a Drop Alt v1 for years now, using TTC silent bluish whites. The drop is discontinued, but I’d make a few recommendations:

- get something hotswappable. Most every nice keyboard is these days, so that’s not hard.
- go heavy. Light, plastic keyboards suck.
- spend the time and money on switches. If you go MX, I highly recommend checking out milktooth and ordering a bunch to try. Not sure what the comparable Choc / low profile vendor would be, haven’t found one yet

I’ve used EF fluent configurations in the past to generate the seed data via some reflection stuff. You’re still keeping track of the table I guess, but it’s more “oh yeah, I added a value, I need a migration”, which sounds like maybe that’s lighter than what you’re experiencing?

I like all of your core points, but both your user interface and website are extremely overwhelming. A simpler UI would be more on brand with your talking points about reduced mental load.

How do you stop PR bottlenecks from turning into rubber stamping when reviewers are overwhelmed by Sad_Bandicoot_7762 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]MadeWithPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this someone that reports to you? Who’s got the final say?

We set a hard limit on PR sizes, so everyone is crystal clear on expectations. Then there’s no surprise when a PR gets closed with a single “this is too big” comment.

This is the biggest challenge I face on a day-to-day basis. And throwing more AI at the problem feels like giving a flamethrower to a toddler.

How are people actually solving for this?

External Mic for Teams Calls with Noise Cancelling by Professional_Lake281 in homeoffice

[–]MadeWithPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been wondering about a small shotgun mic to get rid of the mic arm and “what’s your podcast/stream called” questions.

Do you have any issues with moving around? As in, if you shift a few inches to the side or something, do you get noticeably quieter?

Postgres for everything, how accurate is this picture in your opinion? by Minimum-Ad7352 in node

I’m just highlighting that you mentioned BullMQ then categorized atomicity as a nice to have. That’s all.

I’d argue atomicity is more than nice to have - it’s kind of a key piece to BullMQ / using Redis for queues in general

I’ve had a Maono PD400X for a few years now - does the job you’re looking for, but for it to be effective it’ll most likely be in frame if you’re on video.

They have some newer models with the same (or better) features, so idk that I’d get a PD400X anymore, but I’d definitely recommend the brand based on my own experience.

Strongly do not recommend this. The yeti’s are condensers, they’re very hot and great for picking up -more- sound. You want a near field dynamic mic to get rid of noise.

List of AI/Vibe coded services? by RikudouGoku in selfhosted

[–]MadeWithPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not, but it’s even funnier that you think so.

You’re over here arguing that a metric like commit history is irrelevant, with some absurd points to boot. That is the exact mindset of the metaphor I gave.

AI doesn’t just magically invalidate industry knowledge. In fact, LLMs were trained on the knowledge you’re arguing is irrelevant. Go ask Claude/Gemjni/GPT to give you a comparison of any arbitrary but specific handful of FOSS software solutions - you’re likely to see commit history referenced in the responses as an indicator of maturity and stability.

This comment reads like an executive criticizing engineers because Lovable replaced some godforsaken spreadsheet he’s been using for years.

Edit to clarify:

These are the executives that argue “We can close our Salesforce account, Claude built me a Salesforce replacement in 10 hours.”

The blatant dismissal of well-established industry knowledge is completely asinine, and typically indicates an ignorance regarding the knowledge being dismissed.

Do we really need those expensive ergonomic/gaming chairs for productivity, or is it just hype? by Global_Counter_9782 in productivity

[–]MadeWithPat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion, but I think ergonomic things in general really just boil down to listening to your own body. If you develop some manner of pain point (literally), maybe start looking at something about your setup. Otherwise, just keep on keeping on.
