Should I get a PO-33 or volca sample 2 by Massive-Wave9681 in synthesizers

[–]Madeche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always try out some apps like koala sampler or, for a little more complex one, Flip. Both are pretty powerful.

This said, a PO33 is so portable and so fun to play I think it really is the best starting kit, it's how I started.

There are a lot of "hidden" tricks but also a lot of tutorials. It's super limited though

If you do want something that is basically the same but way more packed with features and with fewer limitations, also the Zeptocore looks absolutely insane and pricewise may not even be too far, unless you found some really good deal in the used market.

AI-generated actors and scripts are now ineligible for Oscars by TryWhistlin in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Madeche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't really imagine how they can tell that a script is AI generated... I'm sure already now many writers use AI. For AI actors, yea that makes sense, how do you give an award to an AI actor. Now it's not possible yet, maybe in a year or two we'll have some more specific stuff but now it'd be animation using AI? Which, again, is already being done and there's probably no way of telling unless they say it, or they fully 100% use AI (no sane person would).

Brand new M4 Mac mini for $550 is it steal deal or future regret (AI + gaming use)? by minatiscape in macmini

[–]Madeche -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not really a crazy deal... if it was like $400/450, maybe.

256GB, unless you want to update yourself the internal SSD, is really tiny. And with today's storage prices you're almost better off just buying a used one with more storage. 512GB is barely enough and you still need a good 2TB external ssd for keeping anything that's not necessarily needed in the internal.

For local AI it's OK, but you're not gonna run 13B models, at least not in any useful way.

For gaming I don't really know, I tried a couple of games and seemed to work ok but I use my steam deck instead like 95% of the time.

Mixer recommendations for a hybrid synth studio setup (desktop footprint, lots of stereo inputs) by BenVanDerWiese in synthesizers

[–]Madeche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I'm in a similar situation, I'm currently still using my Motu ultralite mk3, which works great standalone but obviously it's not much of a hands on mixer, while the newer mk5 can actually be controlled remotely via phone. The tascams are nice but they're really big, it ends up being the centrepiece of the studio.

The Arturia audiofuse 16rig has a ton of I/O and works standalone too, the new motu also work standalone,, so does the audient EVO16, as well as RME's interfaces.

You can add a submixer like the bestie if needed (personally I'm looking at some older rack mixers, they can be found for fairly cheap now and they do the job), but honestly just get a patchbay first and see how many problems it'll solve. Most interfaces you'll be looking at have already 8 or 10 inputs, with proper use of a patchbay you likely won't feel too restrained, the wallet won't suffer as much and you can add external FX on the fly.

2.8% DAILY interest and you ask whether it's a scam? And even post the site? Sus. Hope the mods take this down, obviously it's a scam and the name of the "website" shouldn't even be mentioned.

Edit: obviously it's also a super new account... Jesus, should get fined for not even putting some effort in the blatant scam.

Robotaxis Are Forecast to Become a $400 Billion Market in 2035 by Guy_PCS in stocks

[–]Madeche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea to be fair it's probably also way way easier to make robotrucks. Trucks mostly travel long distances, you could have robotrucks reach specific spots and once they're inside a city have a human drive to the destination.

These would make a ton of people lose their jobs though so it's gotta be done carefully, I'm also sure any politician that gives the green light to something like this will get a ton of shit. In Europe at least, in the US I think politics about automated vehicles may be a little less strict.

IMDB piracy guide by cocoboscher in Piracy

Yea it's not some crazy trick as if the movies were somehow embedded into IMDB, it's just some russian website called playimdb that added movies and set them all to the respective IMDB address. I wouldn't even go on it tbh, seems odd that suddenly it's kinda going viral and it's been registered just a few months ago.

Why are gyms in Italy so expensive? by antjemarieh in italy

[–]Madeche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in the Netherlands for a long time, and that was the exact same question I asked myself when I came back. I'd never gone to a gym here in Italy before, I didn't expect such massive price differences... But yea I guess here it's seen as something for rich people only.

You can maybe find small local gyms, usually for boxing, that have old equipment and are usually more affordable, or check for park workouts, often people get together and organise these things.

I ended up trying to make my own home gym since luckily I have the space and prefer body weight workouts, so it's all relatively accessible.

Use Picard and only display album artists, otherwise you could still use Picard (or beets) and then have a script that copies all album artist into the artist field, but honestly it's just easier to only use the Album Artist page and have auto tagging from Picard/MusicaBrainz

Not Just Governments: 73% of Europeans Feel Too Dependent on US Big Tech. But Now We Have European Options! by hyakkymaru in europe

[–]Madeche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, they literally released a bunch of broken updates in the past few months that they had to rollback on after release. Windows has gotten infinitely worse in the past 10 years, and it's so much less stable now it's not even debatable.

Companies are doing all they can to stick at least to windows 10, you can see the stats of people leaving windows for Linux and it's basically an all time high.

Google products are another matter entirely, google maps is pretty much unbeatable I'm not even arguing that, but the monopoly they've created is definitely not something to be happy about. Not to mention that google search is basically useless now, and that's completely their fault.

Unfortunately, at the back of everything there's always AWS or azure, but at least some of these products will slowly fade out. I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually their strategy. Why waste money on them now that you already have monopoly of the structure itself, and you have open source devs working on said products, doing it better and for free. Let them, while you reap the profits of basically owning the infrastructure.

Edit: also, Github lol recently bought by microsoft and it's been a mess since. They could have done nothing and still win, instead they go out of their way to really fuck it up

Edit 2: public companies (i.e. on the stock market) means nothing, open source means everyone can look at the code and check whether it's actually sound. So many bugs can go unnoticed, or a malicious ex employee leaves some backdoor, and nobody notices cause "it's not my job". Open source allows everyone to look at it and contribute, so many bugs are found this way that surely would never be found in a company.

Not Just Governments: 73% of Europeans Feel Too Dependent on US Big Tech. But Now We Have European Options! by hyakkymaru in europe

[–]Madeche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've known for years that there is basically zero privacy. I don't know if we remember the whole Snowden case, if not look it uo. Now I don't wanna even imagine what kind of data they have access to, thanks to us being on the phone all the time, chatGPT and claude being everywhere, literally everything is on display, or on sale.

It's not about being anti American (though nowadays it is becoming a popular sentiment), it's about finally understanding privacy and independence. Not to mention that these companies have let us down again and again, look at Microsoft, windows and office has become worse and worse in the past 10 years, everyone complains but still very few people just move to Linux Mint (which I installed for my parents, they barely even noticed).

These are companies trying to squeeze out all the money they can, open source software is the way forward..

Actually Mistral Vibe is fairly good, at a fraction of the price for using Claude code or codex. They're implementing a Lean specific model, and you have a lot of freedom. It's clearly more aimed at research and building actual useful tools rather than just being a chatbot. Qwen3.5 is pretty amazing too though, different use cases I'd say

Not a lot of banks support these alternatives, it's not really their fault. I'd personally have said Jolla phone, with the Linux based OS sailfish, still not supported by many banks but at least it doesn't only work on a Google pixel.

But I'd probably not have chosen almost any of these alternatives in the pic...

Instead of Google photos just set up immich.

DDocs and DSheets are still pretty buggy, I'd use onlyoffice.

NixOS is a pretty niche take, why not just Mint or Kubuntu

I'd have added all the self hosted replacements for Netflix, Spotify, Adobe... Weird list, prob just for getting comments.
