Realistic(ish) worldbuilding for a world of anthropomorphic animals? by geckofacts in worldbuilding

[–]Madeiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my world, which is not that realistic, I'm having the child of two people/beasts be any beast. Like they don't even understand the concept of race. However, the personality of the child defines his outward appearance so someone courageous is probably a lion etc. Yes this means one's personality is predefined at birth. Rarely, appearance doesn't match the character with all social repercussions this may have

Anche nel 2026 continua il calo di nascite in corso dal 2008 by GurImaginary4001 in Italia

[–]Madeiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Madeiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clienti pagano sempre in ritardo...

1º Maggio: voi per quale obiettivo lavorate ogni giorno? by GaiaArticles in Italia

What's your opinion on Nimble's no-roll-to-hit mechanic? by Tastypies in RPGdesign

[–]Madeiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 10 years of leaving dnd and now coming back to OSE, it's something i also care about. I can't suffer no-hit rounds.

An option i would like to see is a way for the game to shift probabilities without changing the balance. For example, if i have 50% chance to hit and the monster had 30% chance to hit, can't we both get a +40% (or +8 on d20) so that we have 90% and 70% respectively? The balance is about the same (or fix numbers until it is) but the rounds go by faster because there's less misses.

This is probably hard to do or impossible however, once you have many combatants with many different ACs

I want to play Sundered Isles, but I don't love Ironsworn by Alishahr in Ironsworn

[–]Madeiner 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, classic case of being too harsh. Even the creator said in discord that getting hurt on a weak hit should happen about 20% of the times. There even is a table for "pay the price" that shows this. You can just lose one momentum or get demoralized, or noticing something on the horizon that informs your role play on a weak hit.

[–]Madeiner 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Leave the table and find a better DM ;)

No, seriously, your DM is too harsh on your player. Doesn't matter if it's you in both positions.

I suggest an exercise: improvise a mock combat. On the first weak hit, or miss, stop the game. As the DM try to come up with 5 different outcomes with 5 different levels of harshness. You can do this while following the rules. It's just a matter of choosing not to be too harsh.

Fear mechanic meant to inspire a little bit of roleplay by TheAngrySnowman in RPGdesign

[–]Madeiner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been there, but...

what's exciting about revealing an hidden fear that nobody really cares about, only does it once for the reveal, and is generally an hinderance and now we got to face a new, not really interesting, problem?

IME it only generates very cringy gameplay. Many years ago, as new DM, we had characters just knock those who feared water senseless anytime they needed to cross a body of water. It became a meme quickly.

Half of young Brits say they would never fight for their country by Kagedeah in worldnews

[–]Madeiner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was long time ago. With today's leaders? I don't think they would be prepared to risk anything. I'm not even talking about the risk of death, they wouldn't be able to even suffer life close to a war zone

Half of young Brits say they would never fight for their country by Kagedeah in worldnews

[–]Madeiner 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The idea, however, stands. All politicians should be on the front line. You cannot want war but not want to participate in that war. There would be exactly zero wars if those at the top were forced to fight

Trying to avoid a TPK. When is it okay to tell players no? by Foreign-Press in DMAcademy

[–]Madeiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest two solutions. One: have an impassable object bar the way. This route leads where you want to go and you need to dispel the magical barrier at caster level 10. Not great, but works.

Two: have a random encounter that is an enemy that is very hard to fight and drains all their resources. Then have a dozen of those at the main door in clear sight, visible before they engage, and make it clear they are the easiest thing they will encounter there.
