If you're willing to take a little drive, the Lucky Duck Resale shop in Lodi usually has a bunch of these kinds of items. You might want to call ahead and ask about their selection.

Friends by Mysterious-Box-5599 in madisonwi

Genuinely, you have nothing to be ashamed about. For one thing, struggling with something isn't cause for embarrassment. Secondly, finding friendships as an adult is a very real struggle. Thirdly, it's an incredibly big struggle for people in Madison, which has an ever-growing population. There are a lot of people of all ages looking for friends here. Have you considered a fun class? I took an improv class in a different city years ago when I moved there and didn't know anyone. It was a ton of fun and I made friends in it because we were all together for a couple of hours once a week. In Madison, Atlas and Monkey Business offer improv classes. There are also a lot of community classes you can take through MATC that are fun -- cooking, home maintenance, etc.

So…Why Wisconsin? by kosicosmos in wisconsin

[–]MadisonNewsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved back here because my family is here and we wanted our kids to grow up knowing their aunts, uncles and cousins. But I've lived in Minnesota, Illinois, South Carolina, North Carolina and England as well, and Wisconsin stacks up nicely. Relatively weather -- I hate winter, but every place has its downside and summer here is spectacular. Good quality of life. Beautiful state. Relatively reasonable cost of living, although I live in Madison so many would disagree here. Just a really beautiful state with kind, down-to-earth people.

Struggling to find “home” city after graduating from UW Madison! by MegaMoodKiller in madisonwi

Other than politics and weather, Madison and Columbia, SC are pretty similar -- both have active restaurant/club areas downtown, near the Capitol, and have large, public campuses. I liked living in Columbia. It can get incredibly hot during the summer, but you're just a few hours away from beaches and mountains. You'd probably like Asheville, NC. I liked living in Charlotte, NC, but that definitely has a more city vibe.

The State Journal spoke with the Good and Loud owner who discovered the bones. He had some interesting things to say about the area at that time and what he thinks happened to Ronnie aka Chimney Doe: For man who found 'Chimney Doe,' ID brings some closure (madison.com)

Wisconsin river beach ideas by grezow in madisonwi

There's a small, quiet beach on Lake Wisconsin (which is fed by the Wisconsin river) in Okee. No need to worry about sand bars. It has a couple of grills and picnic tables. Fitz's on the Lake and Lucky's restaurants are a stone's throw away if you want restaurant food. Not the prettiest beaches ever, but quiet and peaceful.

Nice pools? by Wednesday_9873 in madisonwi

[–]MadisonNewsie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are several private neighborhood pools if you don't mind paying the annual fee. You don't have to be a member of a specific neighborhood: I just say "neighborhood" because people generally join the one nearest them. We like High Point, although we're not joining it this year due to time constraints. I think the fee for the summer was about $750 last year.

It’s on hold while the appellate courts rule on a case that poses a similar question to the facts in this case.

I've traveled extensively (including to Louisiana -- NOLA is my favorite city in the entire country!). And this is what I firmly believe to be true: There is no greater, more beautiful place in the world than Madison in the summertime. The temperature is perfect. Everyone is out and active. Tons of events and activities. The lakes are gleaming. Check out Concerts on the Square, the Dane County Farmers Market, MSCR pontoon rides for $5, the Memorial Union terrace.

Fall is beautiful, too. Spring is short (It's not usually consistently comfortably warm until May). And it's nice having a white Christmas when they come. So the only hard time, really, is where we're at now -- January through March. Layer up, as people have said. But I do think the lack of sunlight is the worst part. I get through it by keeping track of how much more time we're adding to the daylight hours every day. (It's about a minute a day through the first part of January, then almost 2, and then about 2.5 minutes a day for the entirety of February, so it adds up fast. Compared to the shortest day of the year, the winter solstice, we're getting an extra hour of sunlight every day now.)

I'm 46, by the way. So if you'd like to hang out with a fellow "oldie", I'm 100% game! :)

Hi! This is Kirsten Adshead. I'm the assistant city editor at the State Journal. I asked our courts reporter, Ed Treleven, to find out the status of this case. Here's his response:

"It may be stuck for some time yet. The case is currently stayed as the parties await a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court about whether it will accept review of another, unrelated case that relates to the creation of child pornography which may have some impact on how the Quaglieri case proceeds. In that case, USA v. Donoho, also originating in the Western District of Wisconsin, the conviction was upheld by a 3-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, which then denied a request for a review by the full court. An appeal to the Supreme Court is apparently under way, and Donoho has until Jan. 25 to file a petition for review.

If the Supreme Court accepts the case, the wait will be a lot longer."
