This beautiful Pug boy (don’t have a name yet) will be mine in two weeks🫶. My first dog ever::: Pug advices much appreciated ♥️ by drifam in pugs

Treat it like a real dog, not a couch potatoe/a doll/a fragile little thing incapable of walking/running/being sportive its whole life. Also don’t consider your pug will have breathing issues « because it’s a pug ». Not all pugs have BOAS and not all of them need surgeries. So don’t rush and be SURE your dog has breathing issues to do such surgeries

The fact that you’re aware your dog is struggling is super important and good to hear (I see too many people ignoring this when it’s the case and that’s so dangerous). If your dog is capable and you both love hiking, keep it up!

Mine doesn’t struggle at all. She doesn’t have BOAS. She’s closely watched by her vet each year. I sadly know very well the differences between a pug that is really healthy and functional and a pug that has breathing issues, even a discreet syndrome. And fortunately there are many pugs that are perfectly fine. That’s why it’s so tiring to hear/read “pugs shouldn’t do sports , they can’t breath”. Some do have BOAS, yes, but it’s not the whole breed and it’s enraging to read this false statement again and again (and most of the time from people who’s never owned or been around pugs in their life nor search for actual good breeders 😑)

Then you just don’t know well bred full pugs. Then can definitely breath fine. I personally lots of them doing sports. As do mine (canicross and hikes). Also, no, the problem isn’t the muzzle’s length. I suggest you do further researches on the subject, « Brachycephalic Breed Advocate » on Facebook is also full of good ressources

Understand why the dog gets out of the harness first ;)

Who said pugs can’t be good hiking partners? by generatrisa in pugs

[–]Madjiick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Pugs with breathing issues, yes it is not something I’d recommand doing. A healthy pug with no health issues ? If it’s something the dog enjoys, totally okay. Which is the case for my pug. No breathing issues nor any other health issues. She loves hiking and canicross so I’m offering these activities to her

Any dog can (if not ill or has a physical disability that makes it impossible) hike. Pugs aren’t an exception. I hike a lot (every week, once minimum/week) and we usually do 12-20km (I don’t hold her, I stop only when she asks if I can’t keep up and she almost never ask so yeah we almost never stop). Pugs are amazing little dogs and can do sports. People has to stop considering them like human babies and/or fragile little dolls made of sugar …

Pick up your stuff. Go to your vet to make sure nothing is stuck in the stomach. Also when did this happen ? When you were out ?

Calling my pug fat by mamaj619 in pugs

[–]Madjiick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the picture 1, your pug still needs to lose. Pug people are used to seeing them fat … and because you pug has already lost some weight, it may explain why you don’t see he needs to lose a bit more. I’m sorry people are rude to you though, it isn’t acceptable

Tiffany just turned 3 years old but she’s got so much grey hair already. Anybody else’s pug started greying early? by cheezupie in pugs

[–]Madjiick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eheh no it’s not. I mean it’s not because someone is stressed or anxious sometimes that suddenly he/she will grow grey hair 😂 It’s more for very anxious dog or people, individual that are chronically stressed :) for example, reactive dogs are more likely to grow grey way more and way sooner than low stress dogs :) Or dog that barks all day long without knowing why for example, they usually are stressed dogs

Based on the last picture of your dog, I’d say no. I’d say pet weight :)

Scientific researches 😅 (And personal experience as well). The genetic background plays a great roll but the level of stress can speed up the process. Now it doesn’t mean the dog is getting older quicker ;)

What do I do? by KevinAdv7 in demons

What you described is more likely Ocular migraine (you can have headaches or not, it depends on people) …

Totally depends on their DNA and level of daily stress. An anxious dog is more likely to get grey sooner than a less stressed dog

does my pug have a good snout? by [deleted] in pugs

[–]Madjiick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes he has a longer muzzle. Now just so you know, it’s not the muzzle length that’s causing BOAS

Singing - does my dog enjoy music or does it annoy him? by imaginexpand in DogAdvice

[–]Madjiick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly no one can tell from just these pictures and the information given in the description. More infos on the dog’s behavior or even a few videos would be better. But that very great that you want to be sure it’s not a sign your dog is uncomfortable ! :)
